This was a topic of discussion on the deck last week (it was a boozy session )

The topic came about as my young nephew who is 6 was traumatised by his mum taking him to see Dumbo. He walked out after 20 minutes :D

Dumbo....someone with big ears who stands out and gets teased by peers, cross dressing, abandonment......is this all too much for a 6 year old?

My first movie with my parents that I can recall was when I was 9.  It was at the kepera drive in. My brother Mark was sleeping next to me in the backseat while I watched in abject horror.

My father was a huge Bronson fan.

It is certainly something that I will never forget :o

I definitely remember being taken to see JAWS. I was 6, and didn't swim for 2 years.

Might have been either The Sound Of Music (1965) with my Grandmother, or 101 Dalmatians. It hit theaters in 1961 but would not have seen it when it just came out. I was born in 1961. Mary Poppins coul

Mom took me to see Flash Gordon in  1980. I was four and I remember being a bit freaked out by it, especially the scene where Flash and another guy take turns sticking their arms in holes in a big rock or something to see if a creature will bite it.

Mutiny on The Bounty my parents kicked me and my brother out of the car and picked us up after the show I think I was about 8 the flogging scene scared the hell out of me.

James Bond "Live and let die" 1973 at our local drive-in theater. Was a bit scary movie for a 7 year old.

As I kid I was nervous about going to a movie theater.  Not sure why.  Maybe something about being in a dark loud room surrounded by strangers.  I think the first movie I can remember seeing as a kid was the original Michael Keaton Batman.

Didn't go to the movies much as a kid. First movie I remember my parent taking my brother and I to was The Empire Strikes Back. The next film I remember was my uncle taking my brother and I to was E.T. (Seymour Centre near Sydney Uni), then my aunt taking us to see Star Trek: The Voyage Home (I wanted to go see Transformers: The Movie).

I had this come up recently due to the remake. Shows my age, or lack there of haha. The Lion King.

Star Wars summer of 1977 and I was 7. Stood in a huge line for 3 hours in the heat! I probably went to movies before that but it's the one I remember.

Home alone, i was about 5-6. And my brothers and me will never forget it, because it was my mom that took me and my brothers, my father came home that night from a few days trip and forget his house keys, the neighbor told him we were in the theather, long story short. In the middle of the movie he starts yelling my moms name, to ask her for the keys.

at the risk of giving away my age, mary poppins. loved it.

shortly after, my grandmother took me to born free - way back, since i can remember, i always wanted to be a zookeeper and have seen every attenborough probably a dozen or more times. so also loved that, but to this day, i remember that early scene where the lion kills the woman. you don't see anything other than blood in the river but it meant nightmares for months.

when 9 i think, i remember being taken by the family to the old cinema in caloundra to 'where eagles dare'. dad had thought it was, or would be similar to, 'where no vultures fly, a fave of his. after a few minutes, it was decided to leave. i said no way (he did take my younger sisters home) and then came back. i was riveted. brilliant. terrified for the first three quarters and then just thrilled.

not long after, hatari at the drive-in. one of the greats for me (only because as a 9 or ten year old, it was sensational stuff).

Jungle Book 1967. Fond memory.

Remember I couldn't find my shoes when it was time to go too.

Might have seen Mary Poppins before that (1964) but don't recall going to the theater.

I think it was Return Of The Pink Panther. My parent packed the family into the station wagon and we went to the Drive Inn to see it.

For me I remember 2 movies:

I was born in 1976.

Dad and mum took me to watch Clint Eastwood's Firefox at the Cinema. I grew up on Eastwood movies and love them.

The other was at the Drive-in which was E.T

Ken, at the time, we lived in the suburbs near Cape Cod, so not swimming really sucked.

What sucked worse? That next year we moved to the back woods of New Hampshire, just as the various b-movie JAWS clones started coming out, including a movie called Grizzly, about a killer bear loose in the woods.

I basically just stayed in front of the TV until I was 12.

aussies just took going to the beach and surfing for granted over summer.

i remember the first time i went in after seeing Jaws. been in a few minutes and the surf was quite big. got hit by a wave and in the wave was a lump of wood which thumped into my leg. at the very same instant as i turned around and there was a yacht out beyond the surf. so at the same instant as i got whacked by something in the wave, i saw the big triangular sail, which i assumed was the large dorsal fin, in the instant i had to see it. i reckon my blood pressure hit about 500! straight out and it was at least 12 months before i had another crack.

*My Grandmother took me to the show when I was still small to see Vincent Price in House on Haunted Hill! OH, what fun! I've loooved Vincent Price ever since!

Mary Poppins - 1964 — yes, I’m older than most here. Can still remember my mom and grandma taking me to the new Winchester theater with large screen format and enhanced stereo sound.
