Anyone else HATE moving?

Recommended Posts

After 12 great years at our current house, we sold and are moving to a new house. While in many ways this is great, I HATE the packing , and purging of crap that(atleast with me) seems to accumulate after so many years at a place. Where and how I have managed to keep so much stuff is beyond me sometimes. Storage shed, basement and garage, and even the garage attic. Not junk per say, but  just …..stuff. This time its not getting moved. Sold a bunch, and rest is getting given away or scrapped. I'm turning over  a new leaf! …...I think anyway? Anyone else hate moving?

On a good note, the new house has a 3 car garage with heated floors, so thinking I will wall off one stall for a man cave/cigar room. Its L shaped with one separate sort of from other 2 , so will be easy.

I’ve undergone 2 root canals and a third root canal fix / correction. I hated them. They are like sitting on the beach with a cold beer and Cubano and Cubana? compared to moving.

In the process of packing to move as well. The plan is to be in our new place by the middle of April, then have our 4th girl 2 weeks after the move. The amount of stuff accumulated is insane. I wonder why we need all of it and we've been trying to get rid of a bunch through donating and selling through craigslist, etc. But we are also looking at a new piano so our logic is a little flawed lol!

I’m getting very close to a point where I’ll say screw it and refuse to go anywhere. It’ll be my kids problem once I’m pushing daisies. Anything to not have to deal with the reality of everything you accumulate through the years.

In college because I drove a truck I had the pleasure of hearing from all sorts of "friends" at the end of each semester.  These "friends" needed help moving and were willing to pay with beer.  Its the only time I ever considered selling my truck in favor of a compact car.

We are in the process of doing just this. My wife likes to place an emotional attachment to everything. ? Me, not so much. I try live a mostly minimalist life. I have collected some things so I am guilty as well. Bikes were a passion of mine, old classics. I have several (8) and a few in parts projects that were set aside in favor of other more pressing matters. The bikes may be sold most anyway.

Of course my home brewing mess that well it is a mess. I have to weigh the options of either selling off the Victory reach-in cooler or put it on the truck and move it. It is a huge two door model, weighs a ton but the storage... ? I do not think I'd be able to find another without parting with a few appendages.

Also a truck owner. It’s the only negative about it. You know it’s coming when the sentence starts with “ what ya doing this weekend “

One undeniable, immutable fact I've learned through the experience of moving which I'll carry with me to my dying day - every paperclip takes tons and tons of space while packing...  Of course this is due to poor planning and totally under estimating how much to let the movers take with them while you have a couple of days before needing to spit; and you're thinking, "I'll just keep this and that to pack in the car and take with me..." And BOY, I'll NEVER do THAT again!!!!!!!!! :pooped:  :pooped:   :pooped:

Moved last week from an apartment to a house. Was a bloody nightmare but was at least in the same city, moving to a different country well that really is the worst! One of the reasons for the move now is to build a nice outdoor smoking area in my large private yard.

Just when I think we have the last move done here comes another. I much prefer to help someone move their stuff than move my own. Ideally you don't have to pack up little junk when moving someone else. We are coming closer to completing our house and I can say that I am not looking forward to that move at all.

Can't stand it, but will probably do it this year. We talked about it last year, but were too lazy. In the Spring we will probably start painting and purging.

In the last four years I’ve moved three times, including moving country twice. Absolutely hate it. It can be good to see what’s stashed at the back of the booze cupboard though or at the bottom of the humidor!

Our housekeeper loves when we move because we just give her everything, which she either keeps or donates through her church.

I dislike moving, but it's just two of us and a dog and cat. We pack stuff and the movers take it. Not that bad. I know it will get worse with kids and more accumulation of stuff.
