How much aging does the Punch Punch require

Recommended Posts

These are one of those cigars I'll start smoking right away and space it out over a few years, whereas most sticks I am waiting 3-5 years.  Maybe I need to buy more because I rarely have any punch punch over 3 years old, all gone by then.

look up how to remove the plastic smell on here (I use baking soda and news papers), and get some humidity beads, or Unscented Silica Kitty Litter (look it up if you want),

As for removing the plastic smell, I just purchased IRIS 41 Quart WEATHERTIGHT Storage Box, Clear from Amazon for 30.00.. I used some vinegar and dish soap. Filled it up with water and let sit in the sun for a couple of hours. Same with lid. Just poured some of the water from the container on the lid. Dump, rinse and let dry in sun. In done.

So i really have screwed up by doing 50 cabs of RASS and Punch Punch.  I don't have any room for 100 sticks (if i keep them in the original packaging) in my humidor.  I really think i need to steer clear of the 50 cabs.  This brings me to thinking about using the humidor option with the site.  I picked up a 50 cab of punch punch on 24:24 last week.  Is this something that I can smoke within the month after acclimating it, or is it something that is best if let sat for over a year or so?  I gotta find someone that will start doing box splits :P

OLH option may be good for you. I recently registered and had 2 boxes from today's 24:24 sent there. Probably your best bet for aging, especially given your current space issues. My problem is keeping my hands off!!

Bonus...the wife doesn't see the true extent of my problem. :D

Anyone who's putting away recent Punch Punches hoping for something better in the future will be sourly disappointed. They've been sporadic and below par for years. Aging will not change that. Punch Punches haven't been good in 5 years. You'd do much better buying the Coronations and Petit Coronations and smoking them while they're young than getting your hopes up about the once great, but now marginalized Punch Punch.
Last time I was in Cuba, I went through box after box of these cigars and they had no aroma whatsoever, no matter which LCDH I went to. Think about it...the feet of 25 cigars right in your nose and...nothing. It was sad. I'd rather Habanos discontinues the vitola altogether rather than see it so mistreated.

That doesn't at all jibe with what El Pres has been saying about recent production.

Also, more generally, I wouldn't rate solely on cold aroma. While a strong scent is usually a sign of good flavor, I've certainly had very tasty cigars with almost no smell to them.

 This just simply isn't true.
