no spoilers for first video of the year (thanks so much, bill - incredibly generous) but we got talking about what year gave us the greatest LEs.

you can see the full list on trev's site - http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/

for mine, 2004 is the winner. superb cigars. 2003 came close but those dreadful monte C's cost them top spot.

thoughts?

I would have to agree on 2004. I smoked a 04 PSD 1 that my friend, @CigSid (thanks Bill) gave me a few weeks back, and it was exceptional. I haven't smoked a ton of Cohiba Sublimes, but the ones I've had were just...words can't describe how great. I quite enjoyed the RYJ as well.

For me the year that I really liked all three, 2011 I know the early release LE had four or more .

I thought 2014 was very good also I enjoyed all three and picked up a few box's of each .

Great question. I have to go with 2004. The Cohiba Sublimes and the RyJ Hermosos were outstanding. The Hoyo EE and PSD1 were very good. For batting average, 2004 is the winner IMHO.

And now I'll have nightmares tonight thinking about that utterly horrendous Monte C. The evil lives on in spirit. Thanks Ken...lol3.gif

I agree West. Although I haven't tried the 2011 RA Extra and 2014 Bolivar Super Corona, I must say I greatly appreciated the other releases from these years.

Sadly, the 2004 releases were before my time.

Also agree with 2004, love the Epicure Especial and the PSD1's are just crazy good...

2000 was next with the Partagas Piramides and the Romeo y Julieta Exhibicion No 2

Having only tried the complete years from 2007 onward, I have to say that every one of those years except 2007 had only one LE I really enjoyed. As such, 2007 would have to be the winner for me. However, I consider the LE program rather bad compared to the RE program.

Without smoking anything pre 2007 at release, 2009 is the very easy winner for me.

Mag 48 were very good for a long time, but have been down lately.

Same with the Bolivar. The RyJ, while I havent had one in a few years has always been stellar imo. 3 winners is rare.

My experience only starts with the 2009 LE's. I absolutely agree about 2011, but it's all terribly subjective of course. I don't think there are too many cigar enthousiasts who don't like the 1966 (leaving price out of the equasion). The RA Extra on the other hand seems to be a very polarising cigar, I like it a lot but going by the comments on this forum there are plenty of others that don't. The Short Hoyo Piramides is just a solid decent cigar for me, reminds me quite a bit of an Epi 2 with a dark wrapper but in a fun change of pace format.

2009 was a good year, IMO

The Mag 48 was a killer smoke straight out of the box

The Boli Petit Beli was a great release and my fave boli to date

The RyJ Duke knocked it out of the park

A distinctive chocolate note to all 3 releases (my first experience with the LE releases all being the same blend "theory) but seriously enjoyable sticks

2011 for me as well. 1966 and short hoyos were (and still are) stellar, and I quite like the RAE.

2008 for me easiy, the Montecristo Sublime was just so brilliant (So brilliant HSA have been trying to reproduce them neary every new year; Grand Edmundos, 520s etc) and the Cuaba Piramides was fantastic.

There was some partagas thing also but who cares!

Tried another Short Hoyo EL 2011 over the weekend. Still bringing its A-game. Smooth and medium bodied. Light sweet spice, some choc, and lots of earthiness. I like I like!
