Bill Hayes Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 It's not that strange when you consider so many Koreans eat it every day, but I love kimchi. I make kimchi soup too. I also love seaweed and seaweed crackers. And recently, Amaro Montenegro with an orange wedge and lots of ice after a meal on a hot day.

westg Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Bak Kwa or Long Yok. I could eat a kilo of this stuff on my own in one sitting. There are a lot of versions, but I quite like the Singaporean one that is smoked over charcoal. Yum

Fuzz AI Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 We call it dried meat in Singapore/Malaysia and is available throughout the year especially during Chinese New Year. I'm quite partial to Bee Cheng Hiang brand when I'm in S'pore.

Freshly caught, fried winter cod, hung for one day, can be a treat. The trick is not to cook it too long. Cod can quite quickly be overdone and then will become dry and tough. Depends very much on the preparation (as confirmed by skalls ) Good reading: Mark Kurlansky: Cod - A Biography of the fish that changed the world. Paul P.S. currently cooking lamb shanks and cous cous with tomatoes and onions and spices in a tagine. love cooking in a tagine. Favourite here, too. Getting hungry while reading....

Who would have thought? Sweet, milky, that Kit Kat crunch with just an aftertaste of Wasabi. Cheers Leif Let us know if some of the more unusual foods/treats that you have tried. Post a pic if you can. Kit Kat Wasabi.jpg Pleasure Rob! Good to hear you guys enjoyed them, it's one of the odd Japanese treats that we usually take back to my family and friends in Germany. Now I'ml looking for a good bottle of Japanese Whisky to take back next week for the Christmas holiday back home... Funny enough, we've been actually discussing to come down to Australia again in February. The wife hasn't been since nine years and it seems like my short trip to Havanathon has sparked her interest again! I'll give you a shout if we decide to turn up, would love to sit on the rooftop deck again to enjoy a smoke! 1
Drguano Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Lutefisk. I love the stuff. Properly cooked it's flakey. Add melted butter and black pepper and mmmmmm, Norwegian delicacy (that isn't really enjoyed in the home country anymore). With all due respect... 1

Aye, ye cannae beat a guid Haggis! I was going to make haggis once, but I didn't have the stomach for it... 3
Drguano Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 My wife thinks I am bringing boxes of cigars back from London when in reality I dump the Sobrasalientes in the rubbish bin and fill the boxes with these delicacies. Then, neither she nor my nephew are any the wiser... 2

Ken Gargett Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Ken, I am sorry for you. Good cod (not too old-grown) is like a QdO Panetela - Don't smoke it hot and you are greeted with delicate, subtile aromas.... no argument and it is why i have tried and tried. i figure that so many enjoy it and even more importantly, enough top chefs rate it so highly, that there must be a lot more to it. but i can't find it. next time i am headed for spain or somewhere where it is revered, i will ask for recommendations. i have not completely given up, though i hold out little hope. 1

Should you decide to do so, give us some lead time in order that we can arrange a weekend away together (with partners) to Noosa or Byron Bay. 2
