skalls Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Lutefisk. I love the stuff. Properly cooked it's flakey. Add melted butter and black pepper and mmmmmm, Norwegian delicacy (that isn't really enjoyed in the home country anymore).
JohnS Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 In Australia, after a successful Facebook campaign, Streets Ice-Cream gave in to popular demand and brought out a 1.25 litre version of it's iconic toffee-crumbed honeycomb/vanilla ice-cream confectionary this year in August. I've been through a few tubs with my family...must continue to resist! 2

skalls Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Of which fish is it prepared of, is that Torsk/cod? Atlantic cod, cured in lye, rehydrated with hydrogen peroxide, thoroughly rinsed, then rinsed again and stored in water with some pickling salt for 2-3 days prior to boiling in salt water. The whole process sounds straight out of a murderer movie but I love this stuff. It is a love it or hate it dish. There's no in between.

That sounds very "interesting", and while I am open to new (and exotic) dishes, I think I'd probably prefer the dried cod (the portuguese version the Bacalhao is very good). But who knows...
Nrengle Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Had Lutefisk, hated it. It was like jellied fish. Prez. You should try the green tea or strawberry shortcake kit-Katz from there, awesome stuff. There's also a red bean a dark chocolate of some type and a purple yam. I bought them all when I was there earlier this year. That being said you have a treat I love there too. Solo, all of them, are awesome! Also Crown Lager and VB and Coopers (though I can find that here now).
Ken Gargett Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 this count? http://www.eater.com/drinks/2015/12/2/9831052/what-is-goldfish-tea i have tried cod in so many forms in so many countries, even where it is claimed to be a superstar dish in a brilliant restaurant. i just don't get it. dullest fish imaginable. why anyone eats the stuff when so many great fish are out there. i've asked local experts and they still can't find one i like. each to their own.
Jeremy Festa Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I could never have enough of this... I am not allowed to have it anymore. Seriously, it's like crack to me. So moreish! Sent from my iPhone

Fuzz AI Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Bak Kwa or Long Yok. I could eat a kilo of this stuff on my own in one sitting. There are a lot of versions, but I quite like the Singaporean one that is smoked over charcoal. 4
kuma Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Natto (fermented soy bean) with Pasta and dry nori and well cooked bacon bits..... Yum!

leftimatic Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Chicken skin for me - Like Pork Crackling oooohh yah! Any crispy dead animal fat just winds my spring! I love to make chicken lard if for one purpose and thats to mix it in my mashed potatoes. 1
Phinz Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 New Mexico hot chile peppers pickled is sweet sauce. Sounds like a bad idea, but damn is it addictive! Dump a jar over a block of cream cheese.... Mmmmmm!
Fuzz AI Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Nice...it looks like pork crackling. I want to put apple sauce all over it! Don't need any sauce, John. It is made with either slices of pork or pork mince, mixed with spices, dried and then cooked. Taste is sticky salty-sweet goodness. Some varieties are a bit chewy, others a bit more soft. Just depends on whether they use slices or mince, and method of drying/cooking.

I love to make chicken lard if for one purpose and thats to mix it in my mashed potatoes. Nice! I sometimes do the same but with Duck lard. Try melting some lard in a fry pan, add half an onion and sauté until transparent, add a small teaspoon of sweet Hungarian Paprika, mix and then add to your mash.

We call it dried meat in Singapore/Malaysia and is available throughout the year especially during Chinese New Year.
