That is a real easy one: Cohiba Piramides Extra. Maybe they need A LOT of time to get good for my tastes but the three I have smoked have all been crap and IMHO not worth anywhere near the amount of money they cost.

yes, they need maybe 3-5 years before they are remotely enjoyable i have a box and an extra single to be smoked in december to see how it is progressing

wow??

i'd concede not all are great but harsh. some brilliant cohibas over the years.

can i ask, have you smoked a lot of cohibas or is it a small sample base?

and i'd suggest, don't give up.

For NC I'd say most Tatuaje and Alec Bradley. I hate the chasing LE game and Cigar of the year??? What a joke.

I don't think he's smoked many aged ones.

For CC I'd say PLPC and BBF. For some reason they just don't tickle my fancy. I've tried many and I have a few left before I totally give up on them but as of now they are on my chopping block.

That's what I forgot, plpc lol.

  • Monte 2. Had many. They just don't do it for me. Everyone talks coffee, cocoa. I just get toasty tobacco.
  • RyJ Churchill. They were some of the first big cigars I smoked about 5 years ago that were excellent. Can't say that now.
  • Siglo VI. 50/50 on this. Had some brilliant ones and some pedestrian ones. I'm holding out hope that age improves them. IMO best Cohiba for the money? The Esplendido. Haven't had a disappointing one yet.
  • The BHK52. Being CA's No 1 pick a few years ago and the first official release of the marca hasn't garnered itself a spot in my humidor. Give me a Trini Rob T anyday. The BHK54 however? :hungry:
  • Ramon Allones Extra LE 2011. I really gave this one a shot. Bought a few boxes, smoked many. Some have been great, the majority a disappointment. Love that band though.

All the cigars I can't afford are overrated sneaky.gifnyah.gif

... you have confused over-rated with over-priced, which is getting easier to do with Habanos!!! -LOL

Ramon Allones Allones Extra....like Frank and the others, I wanted to love it. The vitola was great, the band was awesome but not for me, sorry. I think CoRo are overrated too

One of my favourites. But unfortunately, I've seen some horrible boxes too.

How did you like that one I gave you after the MegaHerf? How'd it smoke for you? That's from one of a few boxes I've got on the go right now of those. They seem to be smoking great, but IMO I think these won't really shine until post-2016 or so. Too rich, dense, and oily of tobaccos, so they need a few years, IMO.

Fingers crossed that I stumble on some more of those epic boxes at the rum museum during this year's trip!!!! :devil2::drool:

I spent an absolute fortune on a box of Monte Especial No 1's. These were supposed to be the wow factor of my collection at the time. I smoke them very rarely because they ching ching every time I light one up, and every time, I am disappointed. A Monte #1 or a rare Punch anyday of the week instead.

Monte 2 for me, found the examples I've had bland and lacking in flavour.

It seems to feature here in a few posts and I'm glad, as I thought it was just me....

I'm another who feels Cohiba the most overrated cigars. Having said that, I think the point here is not so much subjective taste, but if overall, the portrayal, the hype, holds true. For me when taken overall, Cohiba does not (and is typically the "worst offender").

Fingers crossed that I stumble on some more of those epic boxes.......

Maybe you just got some bad ones. Or maybe they need more age. Or maybe the moon was in retrograde when they were rolled. Kind of the crux....... Should we have to keep our fingers crossed every time we light a Havana? smile.png

No Ross. I meant "fingers crossed" in that I hope I score again. I don't have any bad ones of those RA Extras EL's - while I've seen some horrid boxes (but no different than any other Cuban cigar there, unfortunately), my boxes are all gorgeous and smoking nice. I've got one box of lighter wrappers of those, but they're the ones smoking really nicely right now.

I was more meaning wanting to score again with these. In that these are great cigars that are pretty much gone from market now....but that I lucked out in finding two stellar boxes in Cuba. They were the only two boxes of those I found on last year's trip, and at that point, it was the second to last day and I was spent out.

I'll be looking for them in those spots first thing this year around! devil2.gif

And that is the question that drives buying decisons for many. Just hoping and praying this box of cigars doges the bullet. In any given day, most any Habanos can get all of my hype and praise, or my distaste and disapproval.

But,

Haven't had that many of them, but so far have enjoyed the Monte Carlos more

To me the Siglo line is quite overrated, specially the smaller sizes (I & II). The bigger sizes are better, probably because they're much less agressive (and the Siglo VI is a different animal IMHO).

I don't get what people find in young Siglo I and II; to me, in most case they lack character and balance.

Most if not all Cohiba's

I could not have said it better.

Gurkha ? Are you kidding ? TOO rated ,That is an auwful cigar ,Too much packageing with NO taste as to the cigars, As for Cubans, the Behikes are a bit tooooooo rated .

Avoui` mon ami`! Have you tried their Cellar Reserve? THAT is a damn fine seegar, definitely. I agree the large majority of their cigars could use some "help"! But that one even made the No.1 rated cigar in Cigar Journal (formerly known as European Cigar-Cult Journal) in last year's rating. And it's hard to dispute a lot of their raters' opine! (sorry about any mis-spelled Francois`!)

Yup! While I have enjoyed the few Behike 52s I've tried, I usually find the regular Cohiba line rather dull, especially for the price. There are better options for less $$$.
