TexAg
So, I'm currently on vacation with my family in Niagara Falls, Ontario and I decided to take a short walk down to Havana Men's Accessories shop in the Fallsview Casino. I walked into the small humidor that they had there and began to look around. They had a nice box of Monte 2's as well as a great box of Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios. I was about to pick up a Genios to try when I glanced down at the price tag on the box. To my surprise, it said C$89.95. I about lost it. $90 FOR A COHIBA GENIOS?!?!?!? Thankfully I'm headed to Toronto where the cigars are hopefully considerably cheaper.

RyJ Cazadores a little over $20 with tax. You might be able to get some cigars <$20.

cigaraholic
I was up in Vancouver a few weeks ago for 10 days, of course I brought my own cigars, but my friend still took me to a cigar store. I've been wanting to try the RA Super Allones and I picked up a PL Belicosos Extra........$76 for the two. My contribution to Canadian health care. bassman
Even back in the 1980s Canada had huge "sin" taxes. Was not into cigars then, but prices for cigarettes & alcohol were crazy.
tdlfoto
Those shops at the casino cater to the crowd. Ie money isn't a concern types, or the just-hit-a-big-win type. Probably the worst representation of pricing north of the border. Also, what Lisa said.

I wonder if you went to City Cigars in Vancouver as I did a month ago. When I entered the store I was expecting to be mesmerized by seeing fabulous looking cigars. Well, to be nice, I will say that I was underwhelmed. And the prices, well....I'm very thankful for my trusted online vendors. I was trying to chat it up with the guy behind the counter and asked if he is part of an online cigar community thinking maybe he is an FOH member. He said, "I don't talk or type about cigars, I smoke them." I left the store scratching my head feeling let down by the experience.

They also cater to the "hey, I'm in Canada, and have heard you can smoke Cubans here, although I never smoke any cigars" crowd that doesn't know better. canadianbeaver
The prices at the casino were reasonable compared retail in urban centres elsewhere. This is because the casino land is in Native Indian territory and excludes roughly 25% of the retail tax that is charged in stores. For example a cigar that The Czar charges $15 for, retail charges about $40 here, and the native run store near the casino will charge $25-30. canadianbeaver
Also you have to consider that most cigar smokers have no clue how to buy cigars online, are suspicious of cigars and the only question they know about asking is "how do you know that Cohiba is not fake". After that they are clueless about cigars in general.
Squarehead
Welcome to the Great White North. Now you know what we have to go through.Anyways there's a nice Cigarshop in Hagersville, not too far from Niagara Falls. It's located right on HWY # 6 and the New Credit Reservation and it sits on native land.Chris's prizes are not as steep as in Toronto or in my corner of the woods. Vcool
I have heard suggestions that the cigar shops on reserves are rife with counterfeit cigars. I've never gone to one but it seems some folks here have. Any comments on this?
canadianbeaver
There are many shops ( most of them) that sell cigarettes and cigarillos only... And drive-thru The ones that have humidors that I know of are serviced by Havana House, the Canadian equivalent of Habanos. But to be clear, the prices and quality are not like here. And my beef with all B&M's, even LCDH, is they do not control the humidity like Rob does and customers handle the cigars and damage them. At the Rama store I got into a plume vs mould discussion... They had the latter, but then gave up.
Vcool
Well if they knew what plume was... its a start.
