I went through a spell over the last 6 months or so. Nothing tasted good to me. I lost interest in food, cooking, cigars, etc. When I drank, it was for the effect, not for the taste. I eventually wen

I'm super saddened by the passing of the greatness of the country of my citizenship (Australia) and how damn hard it's getting to have a smoke in some public place and not get lectured about how horri

NEWARK, N.J. -- U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.) has renewed his call for a ban on flavored cigars, which he claimed are "surging in popularity" among children and young adults. Uh, no. They

here's my thought. I've lost considerable interest in cigars as of late. when I go out to smoke with buddies i'm just doing the act of smoking to socialize. I'm not thinking of the cigar or tasting the nuances...just smoking it. its been like this for a few weeks now. Hopefully i'll eventually snap out of it.

gotta agree with you here riaz. I really love CC's, but they are far from the most important thing in life. I've taken a big step back, even though i still check out FOH everyday and smoke once or twice a week. And im over the whole anticipation/ desire of constantly accumulating/buying boxes n stuff. idk.. and what happens if one of us gets some kind of mouth cancer? Still gonna be spending crazy money on impulse cigar buys? just food for thought..

Had this ^^^ discussion at our weekly herf the other day. Although I am conscious of this risk and my obsessive behavior is waning, I am just becoming much more selective about what I smoke and acquire since my education on the subject has become more advanced.

Same thing with my single malts and friends?

A maturity thing perhaps.

I sometimes have a quiet little giggle to myself when I see people looking up health advice health advice on smoking cigars. They enjoy cigars but are worried about the health consequences. I wonder if the same people look up mortality rates of people who own cars to those who use public transport. The mortality rates of those even a little bit over-weigh compared to those underweight. The accident rate of those who use powertools. Do they enjoy driving to work and cutting wood so much more than smoking a fine cigar that they don't feel as if they have to justify the dangers of those activities to themselves?

It has been my experience that a true cigar smoker never has enough cutters and lighters :smartass:

I concur. My new lighter is getting delivered today.

well put Lisa, "selective" is a good term to describe how I smoke now, not just for health reasons but also because I dont NEED to keep buying and collecting cigars. Money is an issue for most of us. Life will go on if you don't smoke a cigar. This is just my opinion

CQ I disagree with you here, the health risks associated with constant cigar smoking or drinking (in the case of single malt aficionados for example) are not a myth. Also I dont think your analogies translate into what I was saying. Yes we need to drive a car to live and to get from point A to B so driving while considering the risks is not the same as smoking 3 cigars a day and not thinking about the potential health risk. We NEED to drive, we dont NEED to smoke all day everyday. And the risks associated with power tools for example correlate to skill and potential accidents.

Yes being overweight is a health risk and one should diet to remedy that risk, but we need to eat. We dont need to smoke cigars all day. I think if someone is concerned about the potential health risks of smoking cigars, that is a good thing, not something to just laugh at and dismiss.

Doing ANYTHING too much carries risk. If someone is not worried about potential health risks of smoking and drinking often, then thats fine too, to each his own. I guess I was also saying that besides the health risks, which is important to consider imo, I have found fulfillment in things besides buying and collecting and hoarding cigars, as much as I used to (like weightlifting, dating, family, and other hobbies) But to each his own, man. Nothing wrong with being passionate about a hobby. Im just tired of smoking a cigar and going "whoa this is awesome i need to buy more now so i can have this feeling whenever i want" idk... carry on with the thread lol...

Agreed. I dont need to buy because I have enough cigars to last me a couple of years at a minimun. plus smoking less is allowing me to finally age my stock, and by aging them I am enjoying them more. Right now i'm just smoking through my NC stash that has been accumulating to make room and let my cubans age more.

I get what you're saying :)

I just find is strange when people make a cut off between the risks of enjoying themselves but don't see the dangers in things they do without having a second thought over. Personally I'm firmly in the school of 'I could get hit by a bus tomorrow' so apart from activities like 'chainsaw groin juggling' I do what I enjoy as much as I can.

Not sure how this would change if I did enjoy chainsaw groin juggling though :daydream:

Am I the only one who has this constant fear of running out? I have a winedor bursting with boxes.. I buy more than I consume (3-4 cigars a week) vs a minimal of 1 box per month.

Yet, the fear is constantly there

Forgot to add, I think I take more risk just walking around town than smoking cigars. I come from a long line of fallers... case and point, my recent wipe out in Amsterdam and my 3 sessions of Physio this week alone... :lifepreserver:

I buy what I like and I smoke what I enjoy no rocket science behind it. There is plenty of time for cigars, women, booze, family, gym, food, etc no reason I can't enjoy all of them (and I do!). Cigars rank pretty high for me as they are therapy as is the gym, both serve to severely reduce stress so however many years cigar smoking reduces my lifespan the decreased stress increases it so net effect is nil LOL!!

That's odd, usually after a night of cigar smoking I'm exhausted and declare no cigars for a couple of days but when I wake up I think to myself boy a cigar sure sounds good right now. I don't experience any effects like what you describe though.

I don't want to worry you but it may deserve to talk to a respiratory specialist…

Do you swallow the smoke inadvertently from time to time? It happens to me regularly…
