ramon_cojones Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 This is a tough question because you never know what they will like or dislike and your fav and highly regarded CCs may not appeal to them if they are smoking NCs. I have an NC smoking buddy I've gifted several CCs to and the results have at times been surprising. I think like Guy said it would be best to start them off with something basic and excellent, my choice would be a d4.
partifan Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Partagas short. It has enough flavor to hit even Nicaraguan fans upside the head.
Ghabanos Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 What cigar would you give out of your collection to a NC cigar smoking guest which best encapsulates the best of Cuban Cigars? That one cigar that to you represents the best of Cuba...that seldom fails to satisfy completely or simply blow you away? For an experienced smoker? Bhk....52. If this doesn't do the job.. Nothing will.
Bartolomeo Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 No on RASS, PSD4, BBF....too much inconsistency I would say a JL #1 or Dip #4......both have unique flavors that stand alone Bart
Wil Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I would say PSD4. I must be lucky, as I have found them remarkably consistent over the past few years.

All the best and take good care, R_C©
mk05 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Monte 2. I mean, it's pretty much the most iconic cigar of all time right? But I'd say since this hobby is all based on preference, a set of flavors he enjoys would be crucial to the selection. Let me explain. When I started smoking cigars, I was disappointed in all NCs for the lack of flavors and the sharp edge it carried. I couldn't really believe people liked smoking these, nevertheless several a day. So I wanted to be enraptured and blown away by Cubans, given such a fervent following. I ran into a Monte 2 that changed my life. It was chocolatey, caramelly, marshmellowy, creamy, rich, thick, bit of honey - the flavors, the textures, it blew my mind. Crossing over from NCs, this CC showed me what NCs couldn't. I forgot I was smoking tobacco. The epiphany was that Cuban cigars didn't taste like tobacco to me. CCs literally tasted like what you imagine - soap, bubblegum, tea, chocolate, whatever. So my point is that it would be imperative to learn what the smoker likes flavor-wise, and then find a CC representation of the set of flavors. I think that is the intrinsic difference between CCs and NCs - the focus on richness and clarity of flavors. The preference of CC you chose is the set of flavors you found unique. That said, I got everyone here in Boston hooked on CCs with QdO coronas. (I am assuming that the smoker in question isn't smoking for the buzz)
isa Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Havent smoked too many, but the most consistent till now & a very good smoke BPC
CaptainQuintero Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Can't believe not one person has said an Upmann Sir Winston!!! If one of those doesn't bring the person over to the dark side you might as well give in right there.
cottierm Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 For me Hoyo des Dieux or PLPC both with at least three years of age.
FireDigger Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I would give him an H. Upmann Sir Winston, tell him to make time for 2 hours on a beautiful day, find a place where there are no distractions ie. smart phones, TV's, books, get a bottle of water, kick up his heels and enjoy this cigar while letting his mind drift towards whatever direction it wishes.

PigFish Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Well mate I have to argue the premise a little here. Anyone who has smoked CC for anytime knows that there is no such thing as a flawless, 100% reliable cigar. My favorite cigar is still not, nor will ever be perfect!!! Since CC's do have a rather disappointing failure rate (IMHO) which is dependent on their vitola more so than the branding, I would likely choose a coronas or a lesser popular PC. The less popular vitolas, and then the less popular brands have a higher percentage of good to great cigars. Having moulded my stock to what suits me (through painstaking research -LOL) I would have to say that just about any cigar out of my humidor is (again via MHO) as good as it gets in the cigar world. The problem that I have is that when I give a cigar away to a novice, they hardly ever recognize the brand. I mean a lot of CC smokers don't smoke nor desire cigars like the RG line, Diplomaticos and ERdM's. So some, not seeing Partagas, Cohiba or RyJ might actually question my cigar due to their ignorance. Secondly NC cigar smokers like wind tunnel cigars (generally). It is a shock to many of them to find a cigar that you can't breathe through. I like a stiff drawing cigar so I will work for my reward where many, especially NC cigar smokers will dispose of the cigar as plugged. While I am happy to share I often tell those who will not be absolutely giddy about a cigar I give to mooch one from another. Many of my cigars can no longer be replaced! I would rather not waste them on a novice but give them to friends that I know will appreciate them. In this case, I would rather give a run of the mill Cohiba robusto away than I would an RG CE, even knowing that the RG CE was less money to buy but a much better cigar. Cheers, -the Pig
randomhero1090 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Wow....tough question. I agree with what size the smoker enjoys. PC or Corona = Bolivar Corona Extra (w/ some age) Robusto = RASS (hands down) Torp = Monte #2 (again, with some age) If you made me pick one??? I'd have to go with the Bolivar CE. I've had '03, '06 and '08. Just amazing flavors with that cuban twang.
