El Presidente Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Now we are talking My go to run of the mill vitola! You have a weekend away and yet you can only choose two cigars from the list. At least one of the cigars chosen must be from currently available cigars. I have highlighted the discontinued cigars with ***. You may chose one of those but no more than one. At least one cigar must be currently available (not discontinued). You are limited to two votes. Lets see which cigars come out on top
OZCUBAN Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Punch R/Sel for me Never had a super sel shame there prob better again these deletions still hurt
lemmycaution Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Great Poll! One of my favorite vitolas also. I can't seem to keep my hands out of a box of 08 Serie A. Too bad the choices for this size keep getting smaller...
laficion Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I'm a Corona Gorda guy HdM Epicure No. 1, Bolivar Corona Extra (not a real CG but almost), SLR Series A . Ooops !!!!!!!!! That's 3, sorry, couldn't resist Are you sure I can't take one of each ? my weekends are very long.
Ken Gargett Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 first, with daylight second, has to be the punch SS2's. i would love another poll to find out how many people who have tried these (discontinued after 2002, i think?) did not vote for them. i suspect the percentage would be very small. second, the 46's but only if they have had at least 18 months age, to be sure.
SethLG Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 The poll I was waiting for, love the corona gorda size. Mag 46 has to be my choice. I have always had the most gorgous wrapper on these cigars, every single one, and everyone tasted great. I look forward to seeing more votes.
ColKurtz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I'm in the minority so far: Punch Punch, then BCE on the other hand I have the palette of a syphilitic donkey. Cheers!
El Presidente Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 first, with daylight second, has to be the punch SS2's. i would love another poll to find out how many people who have tried these (discontinued after 2002, i think?) did not vote for them. i suspect the percentage would be very small.second, the 46's but only if they have had at least 18 months age, to be sure. I have enjoyed many Punch SS2 and Punch RS11....However to this day it is the Upmann Super Corona which I can't get out of my head from that discontinued list.
Habanos2000 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Mag 46 is my #1, followed by the Boli. Oh, like Guy, my weekends start on Friday so I had to throw in a Cohiba for good measure!
LeafLover Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Corona Gorda is my favorite format as well followed by the marevas. Given the choices, I could narrow it down to Punch RS#11, Mag 46, and JL#1. These 3 have very distinct flavor profiles and are different from each other. (Serie A is up there but can't really hold it up to the big 3 here) To pick a best out of these would be like choosing between my kids.....I can't do it. Guess that DQ's me from this poll. I guess I would have to say I have three favorites in this line.
ksblazer Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 This is a tough one but I voted for the Punch SS2. I'm not suprised that the Mag 46 has received the most votes.
shrink Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I voted RS#11. My '99s are smoking very well. Runner up is the MAR04 Mag 46.
jsd Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Although I am a fan of this size, it is not one that I purchase regularly. My favorite from the list is the Mag 46. I also voted for the Black Prince even though I never had the pleasure of smoking one. I have just heard good things from friends who have. I should have pulled the trigger before they were discontinued. I am not exactly sure why I haven't purchased more of this size. It seems to be the perfect size...not too big, not too thin, not too long, not too short.
Cambridge1 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Mag 46 and HDM #1 are my picks. I do have a couple boxes of the RS 11's but haven't tried one yet.
rdb6 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I Haven't smoked all of those listed gems, but from what I have smoked my favorites are the mag 46 and Bolivar. Both are great in their own way. The Bolivar gets in your face right away with its full complex flavours of maybe some chocolate and coffee. The 46 was just as complex though not as full flavoured. The 46 was a more creamier maybe even more dignified.
Michel1968 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 OMG... one of those questions... Frankly, I got many gravitating for first spot but for now the SLR A gives me that extra special feel. Closely followed by RS. 11 Mag 46 and Cor Extra. Tomorrow wil see another list (already edited this post two times before even sending it) Bottom of the list is much easier: RyJ and Cohiba. Both fail to push any (personal) pleasure button
Stalebread Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Bolivar CE and the Black Prince. I have a few Black Prince that I am hoarding. Every time -- which is seldom -- that I smoke one, I am amazed.
dcse Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 first, with daylight second, has to be the punch SS2's. i would love another poll to find out how many people who have tried these (discontinued after 2002, i think?) did not vote for them. i suspect the percentage would be very small.second, the 46's but only if they have had at least 18 months age, to be sure. I agree on the SS2. A fantastic cigar. How could HSA decide to discontinue these treasures? However, I chose to vote for current production cigars to avoid too much sentimentality.
winelover Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I've only tried singles of the Cohiba Siglo IV, Upmann Mag 46 and the Punch RS#11. Have to say I enjoyed them all, but the cohiba with five years age on it was the stand out cigar. I haven't voted as I don't really have enough experience in this vitola.
in0gravity Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 SLR Serie A all the way. Ever since the video review of the SLR Serie A done by Rob and Ken awhile back I am hooked on this cigar. This is my go to cigar. I also voted for the Siglo IV. Also like the Ramon Allones Seleccion Suprema. Great cigar Lars
joeypots Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 BCE, it's been the most consistent stick in that general size range for me.
MPS Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 My El Rey del Mundo Gran Coronas from 97 are amazing. I voted for them even though to me it was a tie with the Super Corona and SS 2 because the ERDM brand is shamefully only left with 3 vitolas now. How can such a unique and wonderful brand be left with so little? It is a crying shame. Shame on Habanos SA.
thechenman Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 There is no doubt about it...the Punch Royal Seleccion No. 11 is the best regular production corona gorda IMHO. It's cancellation/deletion is a travesty. Now that we have that out of the way...the best corona gorda in current production would be the Cohiba Siglo IV. I almost went with the H. Upmann Magnum 46, but the flavor profile of the Cohiba just nudged it up past the Mag 46.
