Glorious Monty 2 this morning. Nice late morning smoke with a cup of black coffee. Rich, oily, dark wrapper. Flavors of coffee (unsurprising), sweetness, cinnamon, and nuts. Fantastic! My smoke of the month. Also, apropos of another thread going on right now, the wrapper has some tooth to it and there are those mysterious white nodules on the ash.9 points

It's great that we have members of this community like Ray (PigFish) who convey excellent information time and time again without ever coming across as condescending.5 points

It is a complex topic or rather people make it complex. There are certainly points to both sides. I think we are all a little biased on the forum as we are cigar smokers. I don't think that cigars should be smoked in many public places. I certainly wouldn't want to go back to the days of smoking indoors at restaurants. Even bars it is nice to not have smoking like it was in the 80s and early 90s. Exceptions to this are a smoking section of a patio and a smoking lounge (a no-brainer). A dedicated area in a bar is fine as long as it is blocked off like a smoking lounge in an airport. People that work at these places should have a choice to work in a smoking section or not. If you are applying for a job in a smoking lounge and have a problem with smoke...well... If smoking was banned on golf courses I would have to think of buying an island somewhere.4 points

I don't have a problem with bars banning smoking either. I do have a problem with the city doing it for them.3 points

I am going to keep this short lest I loose some words that tarnish my sterling reputation <Sarcasm... We are fighting hard on this. I cannot begin to explain how much this infuriates me. The key line to me is "But a 2009 law..." It seems this is yet another law that was passed by a Statist House, a Statist Senate and signed by a Statist President. The fight here in the States to retain even the semblance of freedom from overbearing regulations into every nook of our lives is real. For some reason, the left insists that there cannot be a single part of my life that the government doesn't have some say in. I cannot for the life of me come up with a good reason other than they intend on taking it all the way to the Orwellian end. I fear for what this all means for my country, my family and future generations. I wonder if "We the people" will fight or if too many of us are finally too fat from living off the government teat that "We the people" can't even muster the motivation to act. Scary times.3 points

Ray is on point. You all who feel it's reasonable to ban smoking in bars, etc., are missing the point completely. Everything associated with Government control is a slippery slope. When in the history of humankind has Government announced to it's citizens: "Thank you all so much for your support and trust! We have made the decision that we as a society have reached the appropriate balance of freedoms and regulation. Go about your lives and live them to the fullest!" This does not exist. When the Government is involved in providing you anything you have to play by their rules. This means smoking bans based on long term cost studies claiming it will cost X,XXX,XXX,XXX,XXX to the government run healthcare systems over the next XX years if it isn't curbed. It means a lot of things from a lot of people forever. But based on the slippery slope theory it will never stop. In order to justify providing more and more Government will require more and more from you. More taxes, more behavior modification and more compliance. The Utopian society many in government would like to create seems great in theory, but in reality it seems like just a bunch of brainwashed robots existing in a hypothetical bubble of sameness. This is not the life I wish to live, but sadly it seems to be the reality more and more people seem resigned to accepting.2 points

Smoking one over the weekend. Will post a photo and a review. Still a few weeks away from release. Pricing to hand likely late next week. No waiting lists being taken . I will just put them up on 24:24 when available.2 points

At one point, I made a numbered list of my wife's favorite sayings and responses. I'd call her out when she used one of them, particularly when we were in disagreement over something. For some reason, that did not go well for me.2 points

I'm reminded of the old story about the Comedians Club that met regularly to share jokes. After a few years, their conversations turned into, "Number 14!" (Laughter erupts). Followed by another member, "26! Damn that cracks me up to this day!" Not a sustainable model. There is a high turnover rate among the people who regularly participate in the forum for any length of time. While I absolutely encourage people to do at least a cursory search for prior discussions on a subject before asking, it is equally important that we foster and maintain an open atmosphere of "There are no stupid questions here" (even if there are). Achieving a healthy mix of grizzled veterans and comfortable rookie contributors requires some patience. Often, all it takes is the insertion of a link in a response to send the unspoken message that "you coulda looked this up."2 points

There's always gonna be Monte 5 loyalists like myself It would seem. So I don't think the Media will steal all of its market, but it will most assuredly steal some. I wouldn't be thrilled if Monte 5 was discontinued, but I don't see the big problem? If HSA wants to try and market a different option in this size then I'm sure it's nothing more than marketing at work. If Monte 5 was suffering declining sales (likely more to the trend of larger RG cigars) then putting out something new is simply good marketing. Why not do a review with Ken of both cigars? I seem to recall his fondness for the HUHC....2 points

I think that is how Spain handles it; a venue has the choice of being either smoking or smoke free and the market decides if they succeed or fail because of that choice2 points

It should be the establishment's decision IMHO. Right now we smoke at home but they are coming for your homes (autos, etc.) as well. In some parts of the country this has already happened. Luckily there is zero chance of enforcement for homes where I live.2 points

Agree that things are being taken much too far. Like the DUI laws with the blood alcohol levels. Over the years, this has been lowered to the point that just one 12oz regular beer will render even a large dude legally DUI. That means if the police were to decide to stop every person leaving a local pub or bar, there would likely be some 80-90% that are over the legal limit. MADD in action. What started as a good idea, was legislated to an extreme, all in the name of making driving safer. No reason for bars or smoking lounges to have to ban smoking or cigars. This goes double for outdoor venues, such as beaches, parks and public walkways. Too bad the Cigar Lobby does not list the politicians that vote for the bans, so we can vote them the hell out of office!!!2 points

This video: Is the 34th time (on camera) when there's some kind of recording mishap discussion. Is the 15th time Ken has made a plea for roller codes. Surprised we haven't had much discussion of fashion or Ken's wildlife of late. Carry on, gentlemen.2 points

For today's cigar porn, I decided my cigar budget was more of a "guideline" than a "rule" BHK's are just for me.... PE's are special gifts, since nothing is as cool as handing someone a tubo! (Ok, giving out a box is cooler, but that ain't happening.) BHK's have some spotty wrappers, but the construction and fill is spot on, so I'm happy. PE's have great wrapper and construction, and would be perfect with just a touch more oily wrappers.2 points

I wouldn't worry - I'm new to them compared to the other guys posting on the thread I've been enjoying them (very recent production). You will make your own opinion when you eventually smoke one. I have a cab from '14 which have improved each time I dip in to try one.2 points
