I had a look at some of my 50 cabs today No ....don't e-mail me They are scheduled for 24:24 or otherwise have been picked up by those who have e-mailed me prior on a "look for" list. I will get back to those in the am. I just wanted to put up some pictures of great cabs. Still brings a smile to my face and as long as it does I will keep doing what I do. There were not too many cabs bar good supplies of the Punch and Lusi. I know the subject is regularly brought up as to Dress box V Cab quality. In this case all bar two cabs of Punch were PSP/HQ (high end). Same with the Lusi. The other two in each were high end PE. That is one hell of a quality strike rate not often seen in dress boxes. Mind you, I have seen average runs of premium cabs (excluding Shorts and PLPC) in the past. Anyway...enjoy10 points

I got these boxes fresh from the island today. For a non cigar smoker my friend certainly came through immensely. Haven't seen much on the box code for the Connie As but they look pretty damn nice to me. Had one of the El Principes tonight and aside from a little roughness near the end it was bakers chocolate and espresso all the way. Looking forward to enjoying both of these.4 points

Not a new one, but certainly one that won't go out of style! So Donald Rumsfeld is giving president Bush his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Mr. President, earlier today the coalition had an unfortunate incident with some of it's troops. I'm sorry to say that 3 Brazilian soldiers were captured and taken prisoner." "OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!" His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands. Finally, the President looks up and asks, "Just how many is a brazillion anyway???"3 points

The only thing that's important about the presentation is that it contains an age statement. You can dress up 3-year old spirit in all the gold, silver and meaningless wanky names you like, but it's all cheap sham. Single Malt. Plain bottle. Age Statement. All you need.3 points

I believe there isn't one cigar smoker I know in real life who doesn't have a story of forgotten cigars (in the car, in a drawer at the office, etc.) that were dramatically dried up, but proved to be delicious…3 points

This came from a box that I missed out the first time they showed up on the 24:24. Got in on that second batch. It's from USE Oct11. Pre-Light: Firm draw but manageable. Cigar smells like a mixture of cut grass, hay, and a barnyard. Beautiful March day in Fargo, was 62 in the shade on my deck with a light wind. 1st Third: Viscous feeling smoke. Great smoke output. Medium bodied with tastes of dough, grass/hay, and some floral notes. Not overly complex but very very smooth. 2nd Third: Smoke output continued to be great. Smoke wasn't as think but the drop off was pretty minor. Lost the floral notes during this third. Wasn't a major transition. I'd say the dough flavors are the predominant flavors I'm getting. Final Third: Floral notes came back, but were in the background. Doughy flavors remained dominant throughout the last third. Body, smoke output, and viscosity didn't change. Overall: Very enjoyable cigar. The Hermoso #4/Robusto size is one of my favorites. I was impressed with just how smooth this cigar was. Burn time came in at 65 minutes. The ash held firm for each third and was generally pretty sharp burning. Each time I ashed I did have one tiny bit of wrapper that I had to touch up, but other than the cigar was just a delight. 93/100 I've never had a fresh one of these so I really don't know if these will evolve much more, but this box will likely last me a couple years. And if these ever pop up on a 24:24 again I'll be getting another box.2 points

Wow, is all I can say. Dana and I hooked up with Stogieluver (Rich) and Hunter 1974 (Daryl) last night for a spectacular night. We had never met in person but I think I can speak for all of us when I say we immediately felt a bond. We wasted no time right off the bat we were drinking, laughing, slinging the B.S., giving each other crap as if we were old army buddys. Rich and Daryls generosity is overwhelming. They picked us up at our condo, showed us around town and got us safely home again. Not to mention the great sticks and drinks. Thanks guys! Can't wait to see you again.1 point

Well said, Orion. It's all a matter of personal preference, and I age cigars less than 10 years, so low humidity (high 50s to low 60s) has always been my sweetspot with CC.1 point

Thee situation you described above is basically a perfect point to smoke Cuban cigars. Lets use a wine analogy: When growing grapes water is your best friend and worst enemy. Too much water and the vines aren't stressed enough to produce vibrant and flavorful grapes. Too little water and the fruit can be small and bitter. The perfect amount of stress, heat and water can produce grapes that will turn into wine that once blended, bottled and stored properly can age gracefully for decades. Cigars are no different. The biggest mistake I think a lot of well meaning cigars lovers make is storing their cigars at too high of a moisture level. The rh percentage your hydrometer reads is only part of the story of what is going on with your cigars. My experience over the years tells me Cuban cigars like a temperate environment (not too cold or hot) and smoke the best when not over hydrated. The 70% rh listed on the box insert should be ignored. This advice may have been relevant decades ago when the tobacco being used was very different than today's. Today I prefer my cigars to be stored at 60% rh and 70-75F because the lower moisture content means I am tasting more of the chemicals that create the flavors in the tobacco leaves and less boiled water. Just like you wouldn't want watered down wine, you don't want watered down cigars! Your 55% levels are possibly a bit low, depending on the temp of storage and air circulation, but by no means catastrophic even if it had been 3-4 years vs months. Enjoy those wonderful cigars!1 point

Congratulations! I may go against the grain a bit here, but I would shoot for a tubo. Why? Because most of the time you hand these out in a place where smoking may be less than encouraged, ie: hospital, restaurant, church. Plus most tubos come in sizes that would not be too intimidating for the non-smoker or occasional smoker. I opted for Monte Tubos and they went over very well with all who received. Of course, the true cigar smokers chose their stick from my humidor at the house a few weeks later (when I finally got a hall pass...)1 point

Having my first Ramon Allones Club Allones on a beautiful 60 degree day and thoroughly enjoying it. Edit: My only complaint would be that there was a lot of glue and the bands took a bit of wrapper away with them when they were removed.1 point

There are some excellent points in this thread. I also don't think Trinidad needs saving via adding another regular production cigar, although I wouldn't complain if the Robusto Extra and Robusto T were brought back (however unlikely!). Interestingly, Trinidad would be about the only marca that has seen deletions of large ring gauge cigars in the last 5 to 10 years and not standard ring gauge. I would like the current regular production cigars to continue, especially the Fundadores as that vitola, the long and skinny Lonsdale (40 rg x 192mm), well, there aren't enough of those around anymore. I concur that the flavour profile is complex, currently very different to Cohiba. A mix of Coffee, nut, spice mainly and perhaps a touch of chocolate/cocoa/leather/tobacco and citrus. Letting go of the 'Premium status' and getting consistent construction, especially with wrappers is the turnaround required. I wouldn't buy blind with this marca, my Trinidad acquisitions have been through El Pres' 24:24 offerings, but when only 20% of a marca is any good over a number of years (as El Pres has stated here), you can't help but think volume of sales will be affected. Incidentally, I can't get enough of the RMU Ago 15 Reyes at the moment. If all Trinidad was like this, we wouldn't have a need for this thread.1 point

I smoked ciggies for about 20 years. I was able to quit them by smoking cigarellos. I quit the cigarellos by starting to chew. I quit the chew by starting real cigars. Then went back to chew and cigars. ( BTW: it's great to pair a straight chew with a Cuban cigar) I recently quit the dip. Just cigars now. ...as long as you don't count the vape I use to get thru times when I can't smoke. See a pattern here? Did I mention I love tobacco? It's my favorite vegetable (to quote Frank Zappa). -Dan1 point

Just enough (barely) to trim a tiny bit from the inescapable angst over never, ever, having enough Not enough to defeat the utter conviction I must seriously step up my purchases Just enough that it’s hard to suppress a tiny smile when I steal a surreptitious glance toward my unsuspecting wineador Not enough to sustain a “you’ve finally arrived” smile Just enough to help me better relate to the shared obsessions and experiences of fellow aficionados Not enough to scratch an unreachable itch to try what I’ve never had, or to assure me I have enough of what I know I love Just enough to keep my closest friends happy—but not asking to move in Never enough that my friends are pondering if they’re in my Will1 point
