  5. My other box has darker wrappers. This picture was taken in direct sunlight which makes it look a bit lighter. Not giving up on the Don Jose after just one trial Now I am enjoying a very nice fundadores of unknown BD.

  6. San Juan y Martinez is a town in the province of Pinal del Rio, heart of the Vuelta Abajo. All the leaves used in the blend of the Hoyo de San Juan come exclusively from farms in this district. Hence the name.

  12. Greetings dear friends, As some of you may be aware, last year a series of interviews with Trevor Leask, Rob Ayala and Alexander Groom were published detailing the history of Cuban Cigar Website. Last month I had the opportunity to catch-up with Alex at a get-together organised by Trevor, attended by a few dear Sydney FoH friends and members and a few days later in the Sydney CBD for a few cigars and a chat about Cuban Cigar Website. 13. First time with the Rafael Gonzalez Perla. Very enjoyable little stick. Casually puffing it while I prep for court in the morning and it is performing like a champ.

  14. Partagas Mille Fleurs - GEO ABR14. Not my latest purchase actually as they took 6 weeks to arrive. I could have realistically walked to Lisbon (from London), picked them up myself and walked home in that time. Wanted to compare them to my RyJ MFs (there's a thread on this comparison).

  18. Reread the thread for the answer! Wait 48 hours, reread again, for a different one!!! If you reread the thread enough, you will conclude fermentation has little to do with anything and lamentation has everything to do with everything!! -LOL -Piggy

  19. AFAIK, Des Dieux has always been behind on production numbers, and the Le Hoyo series in general is low in production numbers (excepting perhaps the San Juan (which is a marginal member of the Le Hoyo line IMO). I recall many years since the late 90s where Des Dieux was hard to come by. I also recall a ton of outstanding Des Dieux in 2003. Lots produced and many were very good. Another winner from that oasis in the desert of 03. The Des Dieux is also a size that HSA loves to cut, so perhaps they don't care if they make them or not and the less Des Dieux they make the more San Juan they can make. It's actually my favorite HdM, followed by the Du Prince. Those two are really the only HdM I'll smoke. Not an Epicure guy and never have been. BTW, slightly off-topic, but am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous to introduce a cigar called the San Juan into a line that's been around since before the revolution, named completely in French and with all 5 cigars in the line named in French? Had to go with a Spanish name, huh? Couldn't go with Le Hoyo du Saint Jean?

  26. What is the status of this cigar? I have a box from our host and they are such a great smoke. They seem to be in short supply. Please pardon my ignorance on these, but why are they hard to find? Popularity? Seasonal production? Bottom line, when can I get my hands on some more of these?

  27. Good idea from an overall viewpoint. I'm more curious about it from a cigar smokers viewpoint, however, and for that one must go to the expert source. LOL. Sounds suspiciously like one of those resorts in Cuba that has, sadly, banned indoor cigar smoking. I ran into that at the Sol Cayo Santa Maria resort. Just couldn't believe it. In Cuba, of all places, I never expected to have to sit outside in the heat and humidity to smoke a cigar.

  28. Isn't it the soil? Not so much the seed? At least that's always been the argument about NC's using Cuban seed, and the reason always given for the NC's not being as good as CC's, even though they use Cuban seed, the soil isn't the same. Not too concerned here.

  34. My first. Started awesome, then turned harsh and bitter and the wrapper didn't burn too well. Way too young. So far, not even in the same universe as the Selectos Finos. Check out that box press!

  36. Ecclestone: US GP will happen Bernie Ecclestone believes the United States GP will take place this year despite funding being slashed by the government. The Circuit of the Americas made its Formula 1 debut in 2012 and since then has received a reported $25 million subsidy from the government. Last year, though, COTA chairman Bobby Epstein announced that they were "screwed" after the Texas state reduced their subsidy by 20 per cent. Added to that the grand prix weekend was a near washout resulting in fewer spectators and therefore less money coming in. This raised some questions about the future of the United States GPs. Ecclestone, however, has reiterated his belief that the race will go ahead as scheduled. "I think Austin will happen this year," the F1 supremo told Forbes. "Epstein is confident. He knows the money is coming."

  37. Oh, Orion! Let me say first that yes there ARE some of MY people who cause other Black folks to be ready to take a sheet and cut two eye holes out. I know that. Just as there are some folks in the "dominant" group, shall we say - who do things that make their own wonder how it is that all of the "other" group don't go on a rampage against that dominant group. We all have idiots in our select group. I respect your wife's concerns, we've seen it many times. However, when similar bad service that can't be excused happens to me, and I know that based on that one bad employee's actions I'm not ever returning to that establishment again...I feel that I NEED to alert management about that employee, and let them know that they're losing a customer because of this knucklehead's actions. This is in fairness to the store owners/managers in case they may want to do something to keep from losing future customers. I'm sure they'd appreciate being alerted to this so they can correct said situation.

  38. I hope you don't mind me using your case... While I am one of the few that will talk to one's boss to compliment them, there are times when I will be happy to do the opposite. I know some of department stores. I have never worked at one, but I have remodeled plenty of them. Some of these (TI) projects can last over a year. As such, I get to know a lot of store employees and the store managers. I don't know one of these managers who would put up with this. A lot of department store 'workers' can work for vendors. These vendors will not put up with this either. This is a highly competitive market place. While I would not go to the store manager asking for free stuff, I would ask to see the store manager. I would not let a snot nose run me out of a store. I have never known a store manager who would want you to walk from a store, not telling them that they have a problem employee...! The fact is, some of these stores have a lot of employees, and they cannot fix it (employee problems), if you don't tell them that it is broken... Just my 2 cts. -Piggy

  40. if you are not prepaired to sack your troublesome clients (regardless of spends) then you are putting them above your employees who by this time should be family. One who does not so needs his brain read. In business if you are able you should develop a true team around you (as close to family as possible). You bleed for each other. You seek excellence, you fall short, you make it up however possible. You train, you correct, you teach, you learn. However never, ever, do you allow one of your own to be torn to shreads by keyboard or telephone upstarts. Ever. Coin is plenty awash in the world. The feeling of security, loyalty, friendship, fraternity, love, rare. Strive to develop that in a workforce and you will be sweet. You will be top 1%.
