I am just finishing off the itinerary for this years FOH catchup in Cuba November The last FOH Cuba catchup was....well...more tham memorable This year we will be partnering some of the events with the AMICIGAR brotherhood. Love those guys/girls. They truly "get" that the core of cigars is friendship and laughter. I look forward to catching up with all of them again! The dates for this year will be the 19th (Saturday) to the 25th of November. It should coincide with the Encuentro de Amigos de Partagas. Our week is very much the "Anti Gala" week. Inexpensive events interspersed over the week that you can opt in and out of. I am a big believer in plenty of free time to do whatever you want to do capped off with a few beacon afternoons/nights where we can catch up all together. I will have the details posted up before the end of the month but the dates are fixed so if you are considering a trip to Havana this year....consider that timeframe if you would like to join us and lock it in now3 points

Awwwww shiiiiiiiit! Need to think about this. It will use up a tremendous amount of my brownie points/hall pass system, that my wife controls. Can I convince Smithy? Can you convince Smithy? I am saying yes. (read: maybe) I will deal with the repercussions. I am MAN. Here me ROAR. (read: whimper, beg, does all of the dishes)3 points

On the back of a little volatility...we had a little comp back early in the third quarter of 2015 to see who could predict the Down Jones finishing number on Friday the 18th of December. Well it finished at 17158.56 Closest member to that number was CHRIS1685 at 17098 who was but a mere 60 points off Touch base with your details mate (PM or e-mail) and I will rrange that aged cigar for you1 point

Well gents, I truly wasn’t planning on sitting down and doing a review tonight as I’ve just been enjoying smoking lately. But, This cigar was so amazing that I just couldn’t bring myself not to share. I’m not going to say I am celebrating, but sort of, I climbed Pyramid Peak the other day. It is a 14,018’ mountain in Colorado and it is one of Colorado’s most difficult and most dangerous peaks. It was a successful summit bid and marks my 17th mountain climbed over 14,000’. The day involved hiking and climbing over 4500’ vertical feet up to the summit and then descending back again. All in all the day totaled 8.2 miles round trip and over 9,000’ of elevation gain and loss. This was accomplished in 8.5 hrs from car to car. So, I figured I earned a little porch time with a cigar. I recently purchased a box of Montecristo Petit Edmundos (ELG AGO 2014) from our amazing host. They only recently arrived and like always I tell myself I would leave them alone for at least a month. Well, as I sit here it’s been more like 9 days haha. That being said these are amazing ROTT!!! I always knew that I enjoyed Montecristo, but I didn’t know if it was more of a nostalgia thing or if I truly loved the flavor profile. Still, while I may be a fanboy, the more I smoke them the more I find myself looking for more boxes to purchase, so perhaps it’s a bit of both. With all that said, please, if you enjoy Monte’s seek out this box code or if you have grabbed a box recently, dig in and enjoy!!!! Construction The construction of this cigar was spot on. Initially I didn’t plan on doing a review but this cigar took me by storm. That being said, the cigar had no soft spots, the wrapper was beautiful, and once I cut the cap I noticed a beautiful dimpled top. The draw pre-light was perfect. Needless to say I don’t want to spend any more time talking about construction, I want to tell you why you need to smoke these cigars……or go buy these cigars right now!!! Aroma at cold Deep cedar and smooth, I mean smooth roasted tobacco. There are just slight notes of cocoa and cream that make this cigar something of beauty. To say my hopes are high is an understatement! First Third This cigar starts off so perfect, I mean just so perfect. As I sit here I can sum up this cigar for you: MONTECRISTO, MONTECRISTO, MONTECRISTO!!!! But seriously, The diversity of flavors that are so elegantly wrapped up by creamy goodness is almost too much to fathom. I must say I have smoked some pretty expensive cigars lately and this little guy has taken the cake. Now in the other cigars defense I think they need more age and they are different by creation, but still, I’m in love right now. Each draw is filled with sight notes of cocoa with a smooth creamy richness that is comprised of a little espresso, Cuban barnyard, grassy hay, and leather. Now, when I’m talking leather I’m not talking the kind of leather that you see when it’s on a cow, I’m talking they type of leather that is in a brand new Ferrari La Ferrari, the kind of leather that you can’t even believe someone would sit on. The draw on this cigar has been amazing and unchanging and the burn is like a razor. As you release the smoke your palate is left with a very easy and enjoyable dark chocolate/cocoa flavor coupled with roasted tobacco. Second Third As the cigar progresses into the second third the construction is still spot on, the draw is holding steady, and the burn is still razor sharp. The ash still hasn’t fallen off but I’m sure it is soon to come. The flavor profile is also holding rock solid. All I can really say is my oh my, what a cigar. Talk about consistency and quality. Take that you Cuban cigar hating American cigar companies!!!!! If I were to say that anything changed it would be only that the Cuban twang or barnyard notes have picked up just a pinch, which I thoroughly love. The rich creaminess is almost the consistency of heavy whipping cream mixed with soft mild espresso. The roasted tobacco is there and briefly reminds you that you are in fact smoking a cigar not eating dessert. Just as soon as I said the ash hadn’t fallen off, it did. Normally for those of you that know me you know I smoke extremely slow. However, with this cigar I am having such a hard time putting it down. Final Third As I get into the beginning of the final third I can tell that I’ve been smoking faster than normal because the heat has picked up more so than when I take my time. Again, remember I’m a slow smoker. As I’m getting into the final third I have been smoking this cigar for about 43 minutes. With that being said the consistency in both flavor and construction stands with this cigar. All I can say is I wish I would have bought 50 boxes of these. The very thought of ever running out of this cigar makes me sick to my stomach. All I can think about is how to get more money to go deep on these. The cream has not quite subsided but has been tempered by a bit of heat as I approach the end of this fine cigar. Still, loads of barnyard and hay are present as well as subtle notes of cocoa and richness. This cigar for me is a rich and decadent desert that you take a bite of and just sit and stare and enjoy all while trying not to figure out how to shovel the rest of it into your mouth and causing a scene!!! Take away It is truly cigars like this that make me shake my head and honestly get angry when ANYONE dares to insult or compare Cuban cigars to those produced anywhere else around the world. The very fact that anyone would even conceive to scuff at a stick like this in my opinion shows their level of stupidity. I could smoke this one cigar for the rest of my life and be not only content but happy and joyous. Sitting here and thinking that for less than 10$ USD I have a cigar in my hand with flawless construction, diverse flavors, consistency across the board, and depth and complexity that will only continue to evolve with age is simply a luxury I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve. This ladies and gentlemen is why I smoke cigars and I a big thanks is in order to El Prez and Montecristo, I thank you! Cheers, Seth1 point

I had another one of these diminutive and yet well-known cigars last night. To cut a long story, well, short, it was on the fuller side of medium body to start out with, just pure leather. As usual, the little beast made me feel like I was gnawing on the edges of an luxurious mahogany and leather sofa. No doubt you've tried this if you've been to one of those turn of the century gentleman's clubs... it tastes like you are chewing on the unbridled power of patriarchy, capital, and the industrial revolution from above. This is expensive leather, with a certain elegance and complexity to it... which is no more than a smug expression veiling the threat of violence beneath. White pepper and a cedar kick round out the finish. Half way through there is a slight lightening of mood as a new - admittedly very slight - hint of sweetness emerges. Cinnamon and caramel on the back of the cedar zing; the deal sweetens ever so slightly if you play along and work at its rhythm. It doesn't last though... you were the one being played, the brooding power beneath is slowly unleashed in all of its full-bodied glory and crushes the life out of your tastebuds, leaving you parched and weak. You are left flailing in a meaty earthiness with leathery smoke so thick you can chew on it. It's pretty damn hard to masticate on an expensive leather sofa. Anyways none of my boxes of Shorts have ever lasted long enough for me to know if they're worth ageing (i know, i know, i should buy a cab). Plenty of tannins and body in them so i imagine they age well ... but the poll should establish an answer to that? ps: this cigar from a box AOP MAY 10 selected by the good people of Czars.1 point

Many of us are dab hands in the kitchen....or think we are We will generally have some time to cook things up over the Christmas break...hopefully with a small tipple and a cigar at hand...or nearby! Can you let us know your "go to" home food/Recipe that just get's your juices flowing. Post them on this thread (and I will pin it to the food section upon completion). For your efforts, go in the draw for a Diplomatico Bushido stick (10 to be drawn) between now and the 4th of January. One recipe per member. Make it a flavoursome one. If possible....the less ingredients the better! Pair it with a drink of your choice ....and a cigar.1 point

Sorry mates, but I just gotta' say, if how CA rates cigars is important to you then you need to lock yourself in a dark room with a box of cigars, make it two or three boxes.... and start smoking. The more you smoke, the less it will matter! There are no 'wrong' opinions. There is yours and the other guy's (gals) and if the other guy's is more important to you than your own, reread the paragraph above until you get your head right! MHO... -the Pig1 point

I have been a member here for almost 5 years and was a forum member on CA for a couple years before coming to FoH. I can tell you without a doubt the CA people are passionate and no more crooked than Rob and crew. Their advertisers produce products for the American market, so they are going to review those products and give their opinion. A big "BUT" is that the rest of the world smokes Cuban cigars, and so do a fair share of American cigar smokers, so they must include them. I have no love for most Non-Cuban cigars, aside from Opus and Anejo, but I won't bash CA for supporting Non-Cuban cigars producers. Over the years I have seen CA give PLENTY of love to Cuban cigars in their rating sections, with many 90+ scores. Yes, they have picked some dogs to represent the NC cigar community in the ratings, but even I have had a Brick House or two I loved at the time . . . LOL1 point
