But I declared this weekend "Cuban Weekend"! First up was: Upmann Half Corona (AME JUL 13) on a dark, stormy morning with a cup of low-acid French Roast coffee and a good book. Creamy notes of milk coffee, hazelnut, savory mushrooms Couldn't let the thing die . . . Next up was a late night Bolivar Belicosos Finos (LOE OCT 13). I've heard these are only truly great after some aging (at least three years, I've heard), so I was hoping to wait for my first one till at least October, but I couldn't stand the wait. Had to have one a couple months shy of a year and I was not disappointed in the slightest! Very creamy; notes of strong, black coffee; baked goods; a little pepper; peanut butter The next morning, after a tasty brunch, had an Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 (AME JUN 13)--my first box. I enjoyed this with my morning/afternoon coffee mixed with some Ardbeg Uigeadail single malt scotch whisky. Also creamy notes of butter, nutmeg, herbal tea. I'm glad these were my first box. Quite a joy! And finally, I closed the weekend off with the ever-reliable Partagas Short (TAL JUN 13)! These are certainly little firecrackers as many know, but this one was surprisingly soft and not as overbearing on the spices. Even more creamy notes of butter, milk coffee, nutmeg, and some stronger spices and leather toward the end. These just get better and better... I'm go'n to try and let them get A year more If I can, I really think you can tell a lot on most Monte's by wrapper shade,excluding construction problums! Great pick on the #4's,I need about three more!!! mikek Posted August 18, 2014 Share Posted August 18, 2014 My first ever under filled Hoyo Epic.#2,horrible,this is one someone sent me A couple years back.It felt Ok until I cut it the head cracked I lite it and man was it raspey! But I'm A determind SOB I kept smokeing until the last third and tossed it. Never have I had A cigar taste so bad especialy Hoyo#2 anybody else ever run into something like this? Luckily it was the only one! I would have thrown A box of these in the trash! I take pride in the cigars I send to other people oh well it was A trade I don't quit remember what for,I do remember the fellow telling me they need some age! I found the box code on those Colonials,have to scare up another couple box's they were great young! They would be excellent with A year or two,I couldn't keep my hands off them have three left and I promised A BOTL one so I need to get busy!
