Popular Post JohnS Posted April 14, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted April 14, 2020 Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas UGO Dic 2019 It's only three months old and no, I didn't let this rest thirty days in my humidor but these have been quite reputable lately and after smoking it today, I can easily see why. It was of course a little wetter than I like, but I was willing to forego that to sample its flavours. The Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona is a long smoke, anywhere up to three hours needs to be set aside for it. This one took a good two-and-a-half. When the HdM Double Corona is 'off' for me, its all cedar and potentially bland. This was not like that all. From the 'get-go' this was cream, biscuit and light cocoa. Of course it remained mild and towards the back half it built up in cloved spice, but only just a touch. I picked this up from a recent 24:24 in a quarter pack and I'm glad I did, but it has been challenging to acquire recently due to the fact they've been in higher demand. After two-and-a-half hours I understood why. If you've picked up the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona this year from 24:24 I do sincerely hope your cigars smoke as well as this one today. After all, if you set aside three hours for a cigar you would hope it keeps you interested and is flavourful. Honestly for under 2/cigar i would rate it a 10 ! Had twang and decent tobacco. Draw perfect and burn spot on. Mine was very smooth at first and nutty with some twang. Almost like a Connie 1 but def not as refined. In the end it def became more meaty or mongrel but never too harsh for me. I like a little rougher then softer as a general rule though. AND I still have 4 left based on what you said I will smoke a few more before i waste the money. My favorite RE. Outstanding in all ways. Great dinner with 2004 Chateau de Beaucastel. Followed by a ARG DIC 14 Cohiba Supremos. Good but with some minor construction issues. Now a little spongy like a fresh one but it lit easily so ok. Much better. 40 mins to halfway and I’m really huffing on it. Sourdough with nice motor oil spread and a spritz of insect repellent.
