Dang a Lang, Hoyo doesn’t usually do it for me but... Best of July for me so far.

Hoyo Rio Seco. (Purchased from my friendly neighbourhood B&M so sorry gents no code) 

started with the milky peppery taste of charcouterie. Switched to the Hoyo signature creaminess, second half had cedar and graham crackers and now the fatty peppery taste of cured meat is back. That’s it I’m on the hunt for a box.  @Cubasam

This one is a stunner! Last time I had one out of the box was June of 2017, good smoke but not fantastic like now. Glad I mostly stayed away from this box and let them do their thing. Creamy spice, hay, honey biscuit are the best way I can describe it.

Coffee and cigar time: Partagas E2 from UAO DIC 17, courtesy of the UK boxpass. Nice! Never more than medium bodied, and quite mild and creamy in flavour for Partagas. Cool smoke due to the big ring gauge. Happy to have a great looking PSP box tucked away. Will be interesting to follow the evolution, but this was already smoking well save for a wavy burn line.

Cohiba Coronas Especiales AUM Jul 2014

The Coronas Especiales has the exact dimensions as the Montecristo Especiales No.2 (38 ring gauge x 152 mm or 6 inches in length) and boy do I love its size. What a shame I don't have it more often! I think a recent 24:24 listing of this cigar prompted me to re-visit it today. At just on 5 years rested I wondered how this was coming along?

The first few puffs more than answered my question...quite nicely, thank you! In comparison to the Cohiba Siglo I I had before this cigar, this was more lighter in coffee and hay and much sweeter. Milk coffee, light hay, honey and vanilla notes was evident from the 'get-go' in good volumes of smoke per draw until curiously I hit the middle of the first third and noticed a burn-hole developing. Yes, it was the dreaded mouse-hole burn again (caused by a tunnel in the filling and incorrectly bunched leaves), the second time this has occurred this year, and it resulted in no smoke or flavour for about a quarter inch of the cigar. As I persevered through this there was a related runner-burn that developed but this settled around the end of the first third, the whole mouse-hole and runner burn issue, and related touch-ups on the wrapper lasted about an inch of its length, there were no more construction issues after this, thankfully!

Paradoxically, the cigar flavour-wise, apart from that one-quarter of a inch where the mouse-hole burn originated, was outstanding, it could not be faulted. The only improvement I could envisage in the future for the remaining sticks from this box would be more evidence of creaminess, otherwise the middle third and final thirds of this CCE were fantastic!

I'm on a roll.  Third straight CC that possessed a good draw.  I was really hoping for those quintessential JL2 chocolaty, citrus flavors.  It had some, but not robust.  Still, a nice smoke.

Went for an slightly aged PLPC but even my best efforts on Fracking couldn’t yield coherent smoke. Pitched it. The knot under the band was legendary.

El Principe to the rescue. Right now, if I had just these in my humi and storage I would be smiling ear to ear. The smallest draw yields absolute deliciousness. Bloody freaking crackers @El Presidente LGR DIC 17 PSP. This is why we are here. Cheers

 

First MC#2 PSP off 24:24. It started off with a profound sweet cream with DNA Cocoa and coffee notes. I always get a bit of white pepper that moves back. Excellent construction and draw. Thanks @El Presidente it’s bloody crackers.

RyJ Mille Fleur. UEB JUN 17.  This cigar was excellent.  Wood, toasted tobacco, nougat, notes of tea.  Perhaps the price point lowered my expectations, but the flavors from this guy were just well executed with hardly any harshness.  Mild to Medium, perfect cigar for a walk.
