Popular Post YOM'$
Had this 2016 HUHC on Sunday. It’s smoking better throughout but still not where it needs to be. Give it another 3 months.

Popular Post JohnS
H. Upmann Petit Coronas TOS Nov 2016 (Thanks @Richard peters!) Thank you @Richard peters for gifting me this sadly now deleted cigar. Approaching 2-and-a-half years of age, how does this compare to some superlative examples I've had closer to 10 years rested? Simply put, the melding of flavours is still to come, but in the meantime one can very much enjoy the complexity in these as they age. As a result of the H.Upmann Petit Corona being discontinued in 2017, this means that the last boxes bought in late 2016 (perhaps early 2017) would have been quite strong upon initial smoking, especially in espresso coffee flavours. As they age to around the 3-year mark, there will most likely be a buildup of cream and shortbread flavour, something for which H.Upmann is known for, with the espresso coffee and pepper still evident, more towards the back half. This was the case exactly with this cigar. I have a few boxes resting for the long-term of this, in my opinion, hugely under-rated cigar (as I doubt it ever sold anywhere near in the huge quantities the Montecristo No.4 sells) and my aim is to smoke them at the point where they are like mellow cedar and cream shortbread sticks with a hint of coffee and white pepper. I know this will take awhile but the payoff will be worth it.
Popular Post bigbwalls
Monte PE - Aug 13 Last one from the box. Snug draw, muted flavors, not sad this was the last one from this box. I have a box from 2017 and 2018 that blows these 2013s away.

Popular Post Lotusguy
Just to prove I don’t ONLY smoke RE A wonderful 2009 Epi 2.Then I put this mangled Leyenda out of its misery. Surprisingly, the draw was fine and the binder held it together until the nub. Nice, amped up Montecristo profile but a Monte 80th anniversary it is not. 20

Popular Post Edward7
Cracked open a box of Lusiadas that I picked up in Cuba. DIC17 These blew me away. A more pungent and fuller bodied BBF with a sweet smell that lingered on your lips. Intoxicating floral and leathery chocolate flavor. 18
Popular Post RDB
So, here is a Punch Punch from UTE SEP 16, one of the older boxes that Rob found recently. Claro I’d say, perhaps just slightly on the darker side of claro: honey tan leather. Very thin wrapper, and smooth appearance. Burns well, and it’s surprisingly mild in body. Gorgeous exotic wood spice, complex and with a touch of sweetness. I was looking for clove but found more fennel seed. This was perhaps a bit dry, and burned quite fast, but didn’t get hot or bitter at all. Much milder all round than the young Punch Punch I had a month or so ago. Great morning smoke here in Cape Town, with the clouds on Table Mountain in the background. Delighted this is the first of a box. Fire ‘em up! A very rare two-smoke day for me... away from home and kids. This evening a Vegas Robaina Famosos ARS AGO 18. Yowza. Colorado Maduro, and feeling quite damp despite six weeks at low 60s RH. My first of these, and it did not disappoint. So full of rich flavour! Maybe not the most complex smoke, but really intense dark beer, chocolate, and yes the sweet prune flavour that Rob calls. Burn was pretty eratic, but that’s surely just the youth. Damn these are tasty, and for sure at one end of the refinement vs power spectrum. I only bought six of these, so I’ll definitely get a box now to follow the evolution.
