El Presidente Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Well done Belgium. Great performance. Well done USA for an excellent tournament run.ย
ha_banos Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 So we are ok to stamp Haalands ankle then or not? Sorry I'm not quite clear on this. 3

ElLoboLoco Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Belgium is a team in the next rung up. USA Soccer is not there. It was a fun run and I appreciated the journey from the squad! 1
JohnS Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I wonder if all the controversy over the interference caused the Belgians to step up their game and the Americans to play like 'proverbial stunned deer in headlights'. It was as if all that attention on whether Balogun should play or not caused a huge distraction in the US team. Ironically, if it was all 'left well alone', the US team may have lifted for this game because they would have had no alternative choice but to do so. 2
BrightonCorgi Posted July 7 Posted July 7 FIFA said Trump's phone call had no impact on their decision. End of story. 1 3
ElLoboLoco Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I donโt know man, to me Belgium looks like a more talented team but who knows what spark and grit can do in a single elimination match. Love or hate baseball, that 7 game series gives you the best snapshot of the team.
ha_banos Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 There's a lot to be said for home team advantage! And special relationships too! 1

gormag38 Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I'm not a soccer (football) fan typically but have been a casual fan for this World Cup. From a straight competition standpoint it was blatant that Belgium was just head and shoulders a better team. They trapped any ball they wanted to, could attack and score in a blink of an eye and were able to out sprint the USA whenever they needed. My country still has a LONNNG ways to go before they're able to hang with the big dawgs (if that ever happens).ย 3
Chibearsv Posted July 7 Posted July 7 @gormag38ย said it well. For what little I know about soccer, Belgium simply appeared, faster, more skilled, and more prepared to play harder. USA was outmatched.ย 1
ElLoboLoco Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Now that the World Cup is over I can finally get back to Stargate SG1. ๐ 1 3

chasy Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Officially all in on Norway. Haaland is the closet thing soccer has to an American Meat Head. So I will be cheering him on. 3 1

I am watching the TV Series with Richard Dean Anderson, Season 4, at the moment. Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly was my favorite leader but he got replaced by the third episode. SCIFI Nerd ๐จย 1

Arguably the gentlemanly thing to do was the player or coach encourage Balogun to sit the game out as a gesture of fair play.ย Based on the Belgian Trump dance after goal 4, Iโd say that the Belgians were fired up and it probably helped them. The US team seemed a bit distracted, as seen by the goalie mistake.ย 1 1

Also the fact that if they won, they would have done it with the big tangerines influence. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It was a lose-lose situation.ย 1

ha_banos Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 Helluva last 15 minutes of the Argi Egypt game. Some great finishes. And great red cards given to the bench ๐คฃ 1
