From a straight competition standpoint it was blatant that Belgium was just head and shoulders a better team. They trapped any ball they wanted to, could attack and score in a blink of an eye and were able to out sprint the USA whenever they needed. My country still has a LONNNG ways to go before they're able to hang with the big dawgs (if that ever happens).ย ย On 7/7/2026 at 11:16 PM, Chibearsv said: @gormag38ย said it well. For what little I know about soccer, Belgium simply appeared, faster, more skilled, and more prepared to play harder. USA was outmatched.ย Yeah all this. Also, you guys are aware right...that this was WITH Belgium sitting out De Bruyne and Doku which are arguably some of their best attacking and set piece players. Lukaku also wasn't even subbed in until 67' and was responsible for the last goal.ย It would have been a complete massacre if they were all in from the beginning and makes a 4-1 blowout even crazier to be honest. I think it would have been 3-0 by 25 minutes in and USA would have been playing depressed the entire game if they all started from the get go. Too many casual people are stating USA 'was so close if not for some errors' and it's not even remotely true haha. I say this AS an American as well, not hating.ย 4
El Presidente Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Watching the US online media commentators response to the USA loss...you guys are viciousย Out of the 26 players on Belgium's official FIFA World Cup squad, 23 play in Europe's top leagues (the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, and Ligue 1). ElLoboLoco Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I was proud of the team, definitely going in the right direction. Lol, I had no false dreams. The US media hates everything, by the way, take those self-loathing morons with a grain of salt. ๐ Do youth Australian athletes trend to soccer or Aussie football? Here itโs Tackle Football by a mile. Soccer would be smarter for health purposes. Hah hah Although there maybe more youth soccer players nowadays, it is more accessible for the average person.

Gubbins Posted July 9 Posted July 9 It looks like the Americans have actually taken to the World Cup this time round and itโs great to see them โgettingโ football and the World Cup. Now the U.S team are out though, and considering the NFL season starts soon, will it just go back to business as usual, or do we expect inroads might be made into making youth soccer more accessible, or Americans watching more football in general?
ha_banos Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 I can't watch football over here. Too annoying and too many prima donnas. Money has ruined most sports for me. It does make up a lot of leisure time, news, gossip, money however. It's all around which I avoid until the 4 yearly cycle.
Bellert98 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I'm curious to see how packed stadiums are and how the different fan bases show up.ย

Youth soccer has definitely become more popular here. I'm guessing our training system/farm leagues are just no where comparable to that of the rest of the world. I've seen it said before, but until we have a true SUPERSTAR in soccer (Ronaldo, Neymar, Mbappe etc type) the sport won't truly take off and overtake a top spot among the other major 3 leagues. (NFL,NBA,MLB). If memory serves, it may already have more popularity in the USA than the NHL, but don't quote me on that. Regardless, the NFL is still king by a country mile. Nothing seems to come even close to it. Preseason games start in roughly a month+ then it's all we will talk about until after the draft.ย

Preseason games start in roughly a month+ then it's all we will talk about until after the draft.ย Iโve heard there are massive costs for parents getting their kids into grass roots football in the U.S, and that as a result itโs only accessible to middle class families. Weโre talking at least $2/3,000 a season, including travel. That could be B.S, but itโs what Iโve read. I think that is the main barrier. In the UK and Europe there are pitches everywhere and there is basically no financial cost to join a club, or very little to join 5 aside leagues etc. youth clubs aren't for profit like they might be in the U.S. Football is everywhere in Europe, you just need two jumpers for goals and a ball, and there are football posts up all over the place. I always presumed this was the biggest barrier for the U.S. that not enough kids can get out there and play, and some of your could-be geniuses will never even play. Again I could be wrong. Regarding America having a top talent seen in the Champions League (for example). I think thatโs only a matter of time. I'm glad to see you have access to the Premier League as itโs the best league by far. Doesnโt the MLS also have a salary cap for players? This is also a major problem for the league if so, as it wonโt be able to retain its talent. I look forward to the day that the U.S takes off in football.
