I am a Paul guy even though I love John Lennon. The Beatles need both. In their solo careers Paul stood on his own. Lennon had...Yoko.

Also a lot of those killer riffs came from Paul. Badass! And he was a real player, guitar, bass, drums. It was almost a don't make me choose, but I love Wings too much.

I'd say it's a matter of personal taste but I've never been able to take Lennon seriously again after watching the video below 😅😅😅

I'd rather not choose between the two, truth be told. However, John did have Paul to thank for motivating him to work harder and do better songs from around 1967 onwards. You could also say that their rivalry post-Beatles breakup inspired John's best solo work in producing the Plastic Ono Band and Imagine albums. After they made peace post-release of the Imagine album in 1971, John's work wasn't quite the same.

I answered Lennon and no contest. I honestly couldn't tell you who wrote what. I don't mind a song here and there, but I'm not seeking Beatles music to listen to.

Lennon and no contest. I think the Beatles greatest legacy was their embrace of the studio to make an album. Paul's sappy stuff, Obla De Obla Da comes to mind, turned me off and I can't get past it. Lennon probably had too many personal issues to remain creative his whole life. And George's work, in my mind, holds up better than Paul and John's by a lot. The White Album is probably the Beatles' best work, Sergeant Pepper's is a work of genius that showed musicians what could be done with new technology but the last time I heard it it fell flat. 

BTW, I'd go for Beggars Banquet over the White Album every time. But that's just me.

John Lennon wouldn’t be John Lennon without the Beatles. Paul wouldn’t be Paul without the Beatles. They are too intertwined. Paul had a great solo career and unfortunately John’s was cut short. I’m gonna go with Paul but I say this is a “Don’t make me choose”.  We will just have to Imagine what John would have created and Let It Be.

must say i am staggered that paul is winning this. for me, lennon and no contest.

The whole catalogue is good, so I will edge it out to John for being the primary on Norwegian Wood. I am with @carsncigarsuk though, I would listen to the Rolling Stones 9 times out 10 instead.

I voted for Paul. In a pretty easy decision honestly. Too many classics have been penned by him; Yesterday, Blackbird, Let it Be, Hey Jude, and the list just goes on and on (quite literally). When I think of a Beatles song 75% of the time it was one written by him. Then you throw in some of his Wings classics in the 70s and 80s. Of course, I don't care for his Back in the USSR, Ob La Di Ob La Dah part of his catalog but the fact remains that those songs were/are incredibly popular too. 

John, of course had his solo work cut short and was without a doubt the better visionary. He was better at pushing the envelope. A Day in the Life may be the most incredible way to end Sgt. Peppers. One of the most underrated Beatles songs imho. John too had his list of hits that stand alone in rock history; Come Together, Imagine, Happy Christmas, Strawberry Fields Forever and the list goes on (again....quite literally). Yet he too had the absolutely terrible period with Yoko trying to scream vocals on his records. In the end, the world was blessed with having two of the best songwriters in music history find each other as youths in Liverpool and for a decade plus the world was blessed with seeing what they pushed each other to create. Pretty amazing stuff really

Paul, don’t make me choose. He just wrote a staggering amount of quality riffs and melodies, just a natural songwriter of the ages. That’s not to say Lennon wasn’t in the same ball park, but Paul wrote more of the songs that stuck with me and edged Lennon on quantity. Lennon did put together the beauty in ‘a Day in the Life’ though which is probably my favourite Beatles song.

Paul McCartney, no contest. Look at each Beatle's solo career and tell me who had the most moving songs.

But what about "Imagine"?

Band On The Run, Let Em In, Arrow Through Me, Silly Love Songs, Maybe I'm Amazed, Jet, Let Me Roll It, Wonderful-freaking-Christmastime, and I could continue. 

As a duo, they were unstoppable, but each on their own, it's clear that Paul had most of the talent for writing.
