Bolivar Libertador

54 × 164mm (6½″)

Released in 2013, the Bolivar Libertador was relatively easy to find until last year. It will no doubt come back.

The Bolivar Libertador is the classiest cigar in the dwindling Bolivar stable. Forget that. It is one of the best/classiest cigars that Habanos has produced over the past decade and they have done a half decent job of maintaining some consistency. No...it hasn't been perfect...but decent job nonetheless.

How do the Bolivar Libertador age? They have been around long enough now to discuss. Share your experience :ok:

Keen to learn how the 2013 onwards ones are now, since I am huge fan of these - but I've only had 2018s and newer. I agree with them been one of the classiest representations to come out of Cuba.

Sorry if it's not relates, but I saw on CCW that there have been a few previous releases with the same name and dimensions are they in any way similar?

Libertador
2006 - Edición Regional Francia Sublimes 54 × 164mm (6½″)Double Robusto

Emiratos
2010 - Edición Regional Emiratos Arabes Unidos Sublimes 54 × 164mm (6½″)Double Robusto

Libertador
2013 - La Casa del Habano Exclusivo Sublimes 54 × 164mm (6½″)Double Robusto

Hoping to learn more how these are or compare too.

I have yet to smoke a Libertador. A BOTL and I were discussing these a few years back when he tried one on vacation and was stating how good it was but the LCDH only had that one single. Lo and behold they popped up on 24:24 a couple nights later and I snagged 2 boxes for $129/139 each and I sent him one for shits and giggles. Should I be kicking myself in the rear? Nah, all good, but after reading this post I think it will be a few more years before I break into my box. I have others to keep me occupied.

Big fan of the Libertadores and they were the best deal in the Habanos portfolio for some time. Sublime size cigar for they sold for; sign me up!  Same with the Double Edmundos.

Then again I am fan of the LCDH releases with just a few exceptions over the decades.

Mine are all 2019 and they've been very consistent with little to no change over the years.  That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm going to age my last couple boxes at least another 5 years to see how/if they develop.  I think they have room to balance out some more and perhaps gain a little of that aged funk.  I have enjoyed them a lot so far but I wouldn't call them 95+ cigars quite yet.

I have a handful of 2019 or newer singles that I haven't yet put the flame to. I also have a single from a TOS 16 box that's been waiting for an opportune time to smoke. Judging by these results maybe that time should be this weekend!

I smoked through a few boxes of the 2013s and thought they were a great value at the time...they remained that way through 2015 when they could be had for like 12 bucks a cigar on sale!  I have occasionally revisited them over the past few years and generally been disappointed with them...they seem to have mellowed considerably (and they were never a powerhouse to begin with) and the wrappers on more than a few have been very fragile and prone to cracking...from the 2015 boxes at least.

That's interesting.  Completely unlike the experience I've had with the 2019s so far.  I'm going to smoke one tonight to verify.

I liked this cigar from the first 2013 I smoked, loaded up on the 14’s when they were available at $12 a stick on sale. For me they’ve ranged from 93-97. I’ll have to be content with the boxes I have left unless I win the Lottery.

A modern classic..      Their greatest success is that they have somehow gotten close to the BCG and Boli No 1 greatness of 2015.   What can we say about this tobacco/blending other than it is magical.  If you love life,  you have to love a 2015 BCG/Boli no 1.     Flowers, sweetness, darkness,  earth, meat, life, death...........confusion........greatness.        Sometimes we love something and it makes no sense why.        Bolivar at its best is a complatetive......retrospective, a flavour profile that makes us think about light and dark, joy and mortality.................it's just black magic

If these cigars were a music video they would be this

Big fan of both the blend and the vitola, there’s a corner of my humidor taken up by these. The oldest I’ve had were 2017, and there was a noticeable improvement in balance of flavors as they got older. Still waiting for a few 2018 boxes to hit their stride though. Not sure I’d go as far as @99call with the dark side, but there’s definitely loads of complexity to be had.

Definitely not suggesting these are strong nic-hit cigars.   rather that any cigar we enjoy that encompasses or masters a form of juxtaposition, i.e. balancing two ends of a spectrum deserves our respect.

Agreed!

There is little that comes close to the profile in a smaller gauge 😔

Must be honest to say I have a couple with burn issues.  Would have never thought in this vitola, but es verdad.

Every one I've had always struck me as ready to go. Never got the sense that there was much potential in them but you never know with Bolivar. Interesting things can start to happen after 5-10 years.

I smoked a lot of very good cigars in May but the MUR AGO 13 Libertadores I had was my cigar if the month. This is my third box and for the most part I have really enjoyed each and everyone

Just finished a box of ULA MAR 14 and the last cigar was a true pleasure.  Flavory delicate smoke and perfect construction.  Never needed a relight or adjustment.
