H. Upmann Number 2

In terms of Piramids, the Upmann Number 2 has always had a loyal following. Until about four years ago, in my eyes it would have been the premier cigar in that format but the improvement in quality and consistency of the Dip 2, P2, Unicos and Monty 2 pegged it back to the field somewhat.

Let's talk H. Upmann Number 2.

  • Do you like  H. Upmann Number 2?
  • Where does it stand in the ranks of other Piramids
  • Have you noticed a blend/flavour/body change over the years? If so, approximately when?
  • How long does it take you to smoke a H. Upmann Number 2

Great cigar. Have an LUB14 box. More consistent than Monte. Has same profile as the axed Upmann PC. Lots of shortbread, coffee. This and the Unicos would be my two favorite piramides.

No argument it's more consistent than Monte 2 but there are I handful of CCs I don't get and HU 2 is one of them. Never could really get a handle on the blend. I just don't know what they're trying to do with it. Always been a jumbled muddy mess to me.

I definitely get the HU no 2. I didn't try this cigar until 2020 when someone gifted me one with a BRE MAR19 code and I fell in love with it. I chased a few partial boxes looking for one with the same code because I wanted that exact experience. Shortbread, tad a coffee, tad of cocoa, the occasional sweet spice. I love this cigar. In a way I find it odd that I like it so much because I really don't get the Connie 1 and it seems to me that this cigar leans way more toward that H. Upmann blend then toward the Mag 46, which is one of my favorite cigars.

Since I have only tried recent vintages I can't comment on any blend changes over time.

In terms of ranking I put this one, The VR Unicos, and the Partagas P2 all in the same space, but if I am being honest this one and the Unicos edge out the PSP2 by a little, with the Monte no 2 below those.

I’ve had a couple boxes that were less than 2 years old that were average cigars but I’ve also had a couple boxes over 6 years old that were fantastic. I think age works wonders on them and the dark or mottled wrappers are the best of them. The piramid group is tough competition but I’d put them with Diplo 2 just behind Monte and P2 and all of them behind the unicorn piramid extra Cohiba. 70-80 minute smoke.

I love the number 2. I generally enjoy pirámides across marcas. HU2 definitely in my top 3, depends on the year if top 1. Although is true the P2 and Monte 1s are being great and that takes a bit away. Dip2 and Únicos I may have had 2 cigars only if each ever, not sure why but never chased those two.

I like the Upmann 2 aged. I think is a cigar that needs and benefits from the lay down. I just finished a 2014 box and it was delicious.

I have a 2014 box that has been very inconsistent.    With the good ones I found out exactly what they were trying to do--classic H. Upmann wonderful taste--but unfortunately less than half that I have smoked so far have met that standard.

Love a good Upmann Number 2. Like the P2, I wonder why I don't smoke more of them.

My favourites have been 08/14/19/21. I certainly couldn't split those.

Always part of my rotation. Haven't seen them in a while -_-

Tied for the best pyramid with the Unicos.  Straightforward tobacco flavor.  Been through dozens of boxes and cannot recall ever having a dud.  If I had to stick to one regular production cigar, this could well be it.  A must have if you like bigger cigars.

Just had my first No. 2 today. I dig it. Glad I bought a box from our host when I could. GEM ENE 21.

Have an HQ box with this same code. And still smoking from an 09 and 10 box. Some age on these bad boys, and they can just be flat out superb. Like smoking a hazelnut latte. But not made with that shitty Starbucks coffee 😝

I've never been floored by one but I've never been disappointed either. I guess in this world it's hard to come up with higher praise. I've been floored by monte no 2 and some partagas sp2, but also straight let down by both too, and when I was running without a backup stick.
