I found this brand bombarding my Insta and, well, I'm kinda falling in love with the Old Smith model below, and I find myself most days on the precipice of buying something I know I probably won't wear (the wearing of a watch generally annoys me). That's gotta be some sort of design and marketing win, yeah...

Found this review article by The Time Bum that somewhat echoed my experience.

I still feel purchase is imminent. Keen to know what enthusiasts think. Someone talk me out of it! 🙏

price is fair (under $300 USD) and a stylish design.

you could make a much worse purchase.

Meh, I’ve bought a few micro/boutique brand watches and they all kept horrible time and eventually crapped out. At $300, I’d rather save some more and buy an entry level Hamilton.

I like the design. It's quirky. Japan made is a bonus.

...it is just missing the picture of Minnie Mouse in the middle.

She will love it for Valentines day 👍

It's a nice looking watch, but it is a 35mm case diameter only? in my experience more suited to smaller/thinner wrist. If you like the style and size there's tons of vintage watches like Rolex Oysters that are still reasonably priced.

You can't go wrong with the classics.

You could get this watch for yourself. Kind of a his and hers set....

It’s got a Seiko NH35 running it, they are generally pretty reliable little movements. The case size is 35mm, so quite small compared to contemporary gents sizes. This might be perfect for someone who says they generally dislike wearing a watch. If you like it, go for it.

I've never heard the term Rolex and "reasonably priced" in the same sentence before.

still multiple of thousands... (vs a few hundreds).

guess everyone has their own opinion of "reasonably priced".

I still kick myself for not getting a Rolex Froggy Sub for $11K (new)  when the opportunity arose. The deal (12 years ago approx)  was  offered to both Shagga and I. Every time we catch up he is wearing it and I shake my head at what an idiot I was. looks fantastic.  Today he could sell it for $15K +

Ya. Good luck finding a flat 4 for less than 25K now. The green just looks so much better on the alum rather than the ceramic imo…

We're all different I guess. I feel the same about people buying new "reasonably priced" cars that will depreciate a vintage rolex every year. A Rolex will also historically always retain their value or go up in price. Here's a decent looking watch at a good price.

Looking at old watches, it's all about the dial condition.  That is the one thing that is the darnedest to restore.  That and small size are the two things to consider.  Parts are usually non-existent even for a 50+ year old Rolex's.  Parts can be cut and made though; that is what's normally done.  Not so cheap you can imagine to do so by hand.

Steve, If you dig it and can afford it, go for it!  I wear a watch now for the first time in decades only because I think the one I wear is cool. Whether anyone else does or not is of no importance to me. But hey, I'm a guy that wears sandals and socks 😜

Cars are used to transport people.

Watches tell the time.

That's a tough comparison.
