Happy Saturday. I am starting a Cuban collection and would like some input on what to add next. I would like to purchase additional boxes to smoke now and boxes to age. What’s something that is still available that you wished you would have purchased more of? Thank you!

So far, below is what I have or have coming.
1. Partagas Shorts 25 Box 2019

2. Bolivar Royal Coronas 25 Box 2021

3. Montecristo #4 25 Box 2018

4. Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas 25 Box 2018

5. Trinidad Reyes 25 Box 2018

6. Por Larranaga Cab 2019

7. Hoya M. Petite Robusto 25 Box 2019

8 Partagas D4 25 Box 2015

9. Juan Lopez #2 25 Box 2016

10. RASS Cab 2016

Of what you have now, what do you like best?

I have only had 1-7. Still waited on the aged. I got them from the sale here last week. Honestly, I have liked the flavor profile on all of them. The Hoya would probably be my least favorite, only because it was so mild. It might be the box, but I’ve only had on from it and the flavors were muted.

Hard to beat DeskSmkr’s suggestions.  Would allow for more sampling to find what stands out most for you.

How many cigars do you smoke per week?  What is usually the setting/how long do you have to smoke?

If you like stronger smokes, time to beef up the Bolivar with a box of BBF and Petite Coronas--both are smoking great lately.

Then--a variety of Trinidads, can't go wrong with any of them.

H. Upmann--in addition to the Connie 1s (suggested earlier) grab a box of Connie As.

Your flavor preference will change as your palette changes over time. One cigar that has always been good to me was partagas D4. If you’re coming from Nicaraguan cigars you may want to stick with full bodied CC smokes for now. Someone mentioned Bolivar. Cohiba is expensive but fits the description. Good luck.

All very helpful. Thank you!

Kevin-

I smoke 1 cigar in the morning before work. Normally can dedicate around an hour at that time. I also smoke 1 in the evening. No time constraints.

In that case you’ll want quite a stockpile.  You wrote earlier that you more or less graded the bunch pretty equally, so it sounds like you want to keep exploring.   Is worthwhile to try at least 2 vitolas from most brands.  Other than, as boxes start coming in it’s wise to have storage sorted out ahead of time.

Maybe if a typical order is 3 boxes, get 2 new ones and 1 of a favorite to age?

Generally I smoke a petite corona in the morning with coffee.      I would recommend adding the San Cristobal Principe to your list for that purpose.

Looks like you like smaller smokes, and you don't have H. Upmann on that list, so I'd go H. Upmann Half Corona

Upmann - Mag 46, Connie A, Connie 1

HdM - Epi 2 or Epi Especial

Punch - Punch Punch or Short de punch

VR - Famosos

Partagas - E2 or D4

Seeing as how RASCC are a bit low on the ground at the moment I'd say I wish I had bought some more. But El Principe is keeping me happy.

I recommend you buy multiple singles of as many as you can try. Usually 3-5 will give you a good idea. It took me a long time, but I've tried just about the entire HSA collection for regular production.

This is a good idea, and I would also add some Churchills or longer sticks just to have a good 1.5-2 hour smoke at hand.

What are you trying to do. Collect for the sake of collecting? Some kinds of flip investment plan? Or just enjoy smoking?

if it’s to enjoy smoking then the following.

#1. Stop throwing your money at so many boxes. In the end you’ll sell/trade those to buy what you like.

#2. Find out what you like. Then go deep on that. Then slowly creep outside of that range if you think you’d like to store others that may develope into your palate.

#3. Smoke everything you can. Try all the marcas and vitolas, across years. What smokes like garbage in 2016 could be good in 2019-2020

I think R&J Ex 4s and some Monte 2s would go nicely with what you have going. Both are solid smokes right now that age well and have a very broad appeal. Nothing exotic about them but they consistently put a smile on my face.
