It started with the Cohiba Maduro 5 series.

It was expanded to Partagas with the Maduro number 1. Now the Number 2 and number 3 as well.

Rumour is that is being expanded again into other Marcas.

Your thoughts? Do you care?  are they on the right track here?

Would you purchase more of a certain brand/cigar if it had a maduro among them (ie Hoyo ep 2).

What do the Cuban maduro wrappers bring to the Cuban profile? Positive/negative/neutral?

Variety is the spice of life. I would also like to see a return of interest in claro wrappers as a line extension. Nice oily shiny claro wrappers. They were once all the rage long ago.
Why did claro wrappers fall out of favour?

I wouldn't mind seeing a candela or an oscuro as a special release either.

I've never been big on maduro. I think it brings in more bitter coffee and stout. That may be welcome in some marcas, but I think it does more to mask and/or muddle flavors. Definitely not on a small rg. Maybe a BBF Maduro? I don't see the appeal anywhere else really. I prefer claro to rosado range in most.

Your thoughts? Do you care?  are they on the right track here? I am a chocolate whore so Maduros in general are an attraction to me. It also offers a change in taste once in a while so that's always a good thing in my book.

What do the Cuban maduro wrappers bring to the Cuban profile? Positive/negative/neutral? It's relatively unique and the flavour is different from the regular lines, so I enjoy the change once in a while

I would love to see them in Sancho 145 x 50 as the Partagas no 3 . New boxes new bands . Ramon Allones as well.

10's and 25's

 A Ramon Allones and Sancho perfecto maduro  47 x 7.   10 count and 25

Imagine the Sancho , new purple and shiney  gold bands . Silky smooth maduro wrappers.....driftwood intensity in a perfecto .

Pass on the smaller stuff...Cohiba secretos a waste of wrapper

I'm neutral because I love the Cohiba Genios but very disappointed with the Partagas maduros, the No.3 and No.1 didn't do it for me at all. I love a high quality Genios as a nice change of pace.

No problem with the concept but not interested in paying a premium for it.

Full disclosure: I've not been enamored with the Partagas Maduro No.1 and I assume the No. 2 & 3 will be similar. And I can't say the Cohiba Maduros are anything but different than the standard line, which is fine, and I've liked them, but never seen a reason to pay a premium.

West I was thinking about the same thing when you posted in the revitalising brands thread about Sancho.

Sancho Panza Maduro would work ....well in my blending mind. Decent gauge, salty driftwood cream with a choc note.

Maduros are hugely popular with NC smokers, so it seems only natural they want to cash in. Will it work? Who knows. Is it going to affect me? No, probably not. I'll get a box of each maybe, but will not smoke often. Maybe 1 a month to switch it up. I'm not a huge fan and have tried most of them several times. The Cohiba have been disappointing (taking into account the price) while I've enjoyed the Partagas Maduro

I'm not a fan of Cuban Maduro, but for a change it's useful. As for the taste, it is more intense, but monotonous. Because of the high strenght heavy smokers like Cuban Maduros, but personally I do not like full flavor

P.S. Many smokers note that the Maduro Partagas series does not have Partagas DNA. If you think that it is enough to put a dark wrapper on a regular cigar and it will be a “good old friend” but with an additional taste of chocolate or coffee - this is a misconception.

I'm all for it. I've been enjoying some NC Maduros this month, RoMa Craft and Padron, and really enjoying them. I think there's a place for them.

I dunno. I like several different maduro/oscuro type blends in NC, and when done right I think it's one of my favorite wrappers, but I've not been impressed with the sole examples of CC maduro that I've tried (Secretos). I'd like to see them try, as long as it's not at a premium with a second band to drive the price up further. I have some Monte DE that are fairly dark for a cuban that have been smoking a treat, and for some reason I keep thinking that would be great as a true maduro, but proof is in the blending (can't just slap a different wrapper over the same blend and expect a winner). I would also love to see candela wrapped CC, one of my favorite cigars is the Illusione Holy Lance Candela. It's my favorite out of the three options they have for that lancero (the others being a Maduro and Natural wrapper) and has a really unique taste, so I'd love to see some CC blends really tinker with it and see what they could make of it.

It seems to me Cuaba could be interesting with a maduro wrapper...

The varying ring gauge of a salomon would likely provide an interesting flavour evolution...

The maduro offerings out of Cuba haven’t blended with maduro wrappers as well as some NCs have up to this point.

I voted that I’m not in favor of the concept because I’m not convinced they will be able to do it well at this point. Practice makes perfect though? ?

I love the idea of the Maduro wrapper and I have not had any of the Partagas offerings, but the Cohiba left me scratching my head.  I've tried all 3 sizes across various years and each one I found to be lackluster, compared to the standard Cohiba blend.  Much like the EL releases, I'd much rather have a "traditional" offering from any given marca.

As to future expansions, I'm willing to try a few singles here or there, but I can't imagine purchasing, say, a Partagas maduro instead of a box of Shorts or Presidentes.

Was never a fan of the Cohiba Maduros to begin with. The Genios can be excellent if you don't let them age beyond an extra 5 years or so.  Those seem to have a finite shelf life.  I had an OR one a few years back. It was pretty tame.  I've smoked the original Partagas Maduro and the No 2 one recently.  They were good smokes but not something I'd chase down and definitely not at a premium.

Not a fan myself to be honest but I can see a place for them in the catalogue. I never pick up dark chocolate notes in cigars though, just burnt day old coffee.

I said I dislike the concept, but I dont really dislike the concept, so much as I dislike the cigars.  If enough people like them and buy them, that is great for them.  I am OK with the Cohiba maduros.  They dont taste like Cohibas to me, but they dont taste bad either, and they are a nice diversion once in a while.  I dont like the taste of the Partagas maduros though.

To me, the maduro wrappers, on all of them, overpower the flavor of the cigars, taking away from the complexity, making the cigars boring.

I didn't need to type, @SigmundChurchill said it all for me
