I would say sheep is following the status quo......if you don't try the new shapes and sizes how do you know they're not as good or better? Seems pretty closed minded to me.  They may be worse, but how would you know if you don't even give them a chance?

I'm not seeking to provoke of annoy you in any way shape or form......but when considering what we all seem to like in cigars:

-richly flavoured smoke

-long smoking time

-good value for money

-well made, good draw

etc etc blah blah blah.  I think the point that people like me make is, all this stuff is achievable in a 38-to-48.   The question is, is what is possible, in addition to these things in a 48+ RG cigar?  .Short of the fact some may just like the tactile feel of big cigars, I would argue that nothing is of additional value in cigars bigger than 48rg.  Thats not to say that people having a tactile appreciation of big cigars is not valid.   Whatever floats someone boat.  I, and nobody else should criticise that.

I have had great Connie A's, Mag 56's, Talisman etc, I didn't enjoy the logistics of smoking them, but they very good cigars.  Do I think they could of had 30% of the tobacco thrown away, and remain great cigars, the answer is yes.

I have no issue with people that like big cigars apart from the fact there seem to be bloody millions of them! and they are dictating what gets made with their buying power.

Be glad that you are in the majority, and you are having cigars that you like, made in the truck load...........it's just a shame that it's one cigar per truck Ha!

PL 109 would make me break every space and financial limit I currently have set on my cigar collection.  An ERdM Churchill sounds like heaven - I never got to try any but the Choix Supreme and DemiTasse.  Would love to see that blend (new tobacco strains or not) in a different format.

Im considering sacrificing a DT for it's wrapper - I want to roll 2 of them in series!

I think this is where we differ, and that fine.   I think the San Juan blend, is made up of a mix of tobacco that could be reduced proportionally in it's percentages to make a 42 rg cigar that gives off an equally lush, indulgent experience, where as you feel as if, every leaf in that bunch is vital to it's character.

In short, If people buy them they are valid........that said, I will always maintain that the cigar as a mechanical item, as crazy as that might sound, works best in it's filler, binder, wrapper componants in the 42 to sub 42 size.    But thats just me........and your you.  and thats fine.  the market should cater for all.

You're right with the RE for Asia Pacifico, and it may be for other REs as well. My point of status quo is you keep following the same thing (RE, LE, or regular production) eventually somethings have to go and new sizes and shapes need to be made or you'll cease making money.

Folks like what they like. There have been plenty of threads on ring gauges and cigar sizes.  I just don't understand demeaning those folks who like larger RG cigars, which seems to be a common thing I'm finding. Making snide remarks like "I'll never understand people who want large RG cigars" and the like.

I've stated this before, long and skinny, short and fat, medium and medium, etc., if it's a good cigar, it's a good cigar; if it's not, it's not. Plain and simple.

Fair enough.  I think we both pulled a different tone from the comment.  But I am not a RG-ist!  :D Just been grooving on long-skinnies lately and get the love in terms of concentration and construction.  I think they're underrepresented, particularly with special releases.

But I'm with ya.  Like a good women, a good cigar is a good cigar.  I loves 'em all.

My vote is for the SLR and PL. To my knowledge there hasn't been anything like these.

I think everyone is hoping the LGC lonsdale is the next coming of the MdO 2. Expectations would be high, and I just get the feeling that it wouldn't live up to the hype, then again that could be said about any of the choices. They would definitely sell like hotcakes though.

The SLR lancero and the PL 109! Get the best of both worlds there something to appeal to smaller ring gauge lovers and the 109 to appeal to everyone else i mean who doesn’t like a 109

One of the reasons I believe in the SLR Lancero vice some of the other ones is that comparison risk - the QDO 898 and LGC Lonsdale are going to inevitably be compared to the QDO Gran Corona and LGC MdO2.  If you are going to resurrect an old cigar, why go with a close facsimile if you can just make the same one as before?  The SLR Lancero (we could call it the SLR Regina - to compare to the Regios) and PL 109 have the advantage of never having been rolled before - a new classic to attempt.

Holy Crap - SLR Regina.  Brilliant name. If that made it through with that name, I'd have to buy 5 boxes at least - it matches my ship's name!

Thank you for your suggestions re a possible Asia Pacific RE for 2021.
Based on your input, we have come up with six possible options.
Use the poll and pick two :ok:

  1. Quai D’Orsay 898
  2. SLR Lancero
  3. Pot Larranaga 109
  4. LGC Lonsdale
  5. Diplomatico Sublime
  6. ERDM Julieta Number 2

LCR Lancero and LGC Lonsdale for sure!

First contribution I will make to the great discussion is recent chat showed that current 109 is not historic109 but a pyramid trying to be one? Comment?

Next. When Habanos says sorry community, no more LGC. Created this tribute painting for LGC, San Cristobal and Trinidad when announcement came out these were going off shelf. The buying became furious. Then, badda-bing, they returned on the shelves a couple of years later.

The HSA market is slowly, but steadily moving towards not catering to me.  I do not like Montescos or Petit Robustos.
