rabidraccoon
There doesn’t seem to be much love for these cigars but I am absolutely digging them. I may have gotten lucky with the singles I picked up but they taste like straight up fudge lava cakes with some sort of cherry coke filling - super decadent dessert sticks. Are there a lot of duds out there in this release? 2
cookj1
I haven’t read any reviews so it’s interesting that you say they haven’t been that positive. I honestly didn’t like the one I smoked. A few years of age can completely change a cigar, however.

I will say that keeping that oily dark wrapper lit in the South Florida humidity is a challenge haha. I will try to smoke some in a drier climate. mt1
I found them way too fresh, the flavors a bit all over the place, and fairly harsh for an RyJ.
cookj1
Reminded me of an overpriced Romeo No.3, to be honest. I find Romeo No 1-3 harsh.
nKostyan
Smoke from two different sellers, the taste is stable. Both had an oily wrapper.
Lotusguy
Smoked two, didn’t like them at all. I also never liked the Duke.

I do dry box mine for close to a week. 1
CaptainQuintero
I think the RyJ ELs have a very specific taste, marmite syndrome, I can see why they would be divisive. I took ages finding some Dukes then didn't like them and I love RyJ, I think EL RyJ are probably one of the distinct and 'out there' blends that you see from Cuba

Edward7
Hope these are available as singles at some point from somewhere. Interesting to see such a relatively dark wrapper on an RyJ. I just cycle through variants of the Churchill for my RyJ rotation so it would be nice to taste a different version of RyJ profile.

I kept mine dry boxed for about two weeks but as soon as I take sticks out at night it's a race against the clock before they become damp sponges. 100% humidity combined with dropping temperatures at night seems to result in all that moisture getting into my nice dry tobacco leaf. It seems to be more of an issue with these oily EL wrappers. I smoked a Partagas Presidente right after the Tacos and it also became a little spongy but burned like a champ throughout. Edward7
^ where the heck do you live where it's 100% humidity right now?

I live in coastal South Carolina on the marsh (like I could jump out of my window and land in the marsh) and work in Miami during the week. Where I live in SC is usually more humid than Miami though. It's 94% in SC right now haha. On 2/21/2019 at 2:44 AM, FatherOfPugs said: Hoping to get my hands on some of these at some point. Love the RyJ profile. I picked up singles at B&M's in Switzerland and Spain. The price was around $18 a stick but the cigars were in great condition so I bit. I can't compare to the Capuletos as I haven't tried them but the sort of cherry RyJ DNA from the Churchills and short is there. The wrapper really puts a twist on the blend though. I honestly feel like the singles I picked up are closer to Partagas Maduro than the main RyJ blend.

I just had the Partagas Maduro No. 1 and it had quite a knobbly wrapper and a pleasant but kind of flat flavor. Nothing like the Cohiba Maduro Secretos that was a micro flavor bomb. Even the Dantes EL 16 and any ofther darker wrappered CC I have had tasted a bit flat. You wouldn't describe this one that way would you?

I’ve had some Partagas Maduro 1’s and Dante’s that tasted kinda “flat” like you describe and other Maduro 1’s that were chocolate brownie bombs. RyJ Tacos feel more complex and I haven’t had any duds, they’ve all been pretty flavorful.

Always appreciate your insightful articles, Ken. To the OP: I bought one box and will probably try to get a 1/4 box at some point and probably leave it at that.. I have time for them to age (unless God knows differently) and I'm a patient fellow. Time will tell....
godpheonix
When i buy ANY RyJ cigars i always age them at least 2 years. RyJ LE's even longer! For me before that they just don't show their potential. the romeo de luxe 2013 LE is just starting to show its true character now.

They are good...but I think they could be great in another 3-5 years
