OK, I'll call the RA and QdO "must trys", not "must buys".

RA EL pricing has typically been very good and a figurado? Yes.

Love Hermosos No. 2 vitola and I'm impressed with the QdO 50 & 54 so I'll bite.

I'll probably take a pass on the 55 RG Monte.

And the price on the Cohiba LCDH will probably cause loss of bowel control.

Clearly, being other people, they have a different take or opinion than you do, on the matter. It's a box of cigars.  It's not a lifetime commitment.  Buying a box IS trying them.

I honestly think buying a box is part of the fun with this wonderful hobby. As we all know, one sample even 2 can’t always tell you about the cigar. It could be a dud, too fresh, sick period, palette

So there you have it folks, I guess we should see them in 8-10 months.  And I thought the frenzy around the QdO 50 and 54 were overblown, this will be nuts.

Do you test everything before you buy it?

Bourbon (any liquor for that matter)?  I buy 1 I know I like and 1 to try.  Keeps things fun and interesting.  If it sucks, don't buy it again.  In the case of cigars, good trading material.  What if you tried 1 or 2 and didn't like them?  What if they were duds and the rest were magic?

I do test everything before buying.  In a rare occasion I will buy without trying if enough people have raved about them.  But that is rare.  In recent memory, that only applied to La Trova.  Buying a box without trying is nuts.  Buy it, try a few, don't like it, waste a few hundred bucks.  That makes sense!

I usually try more than 2, but there are a few occasions I've given up after just a few.  QDO 54 comes to mind.

An exclusive production, that will remain exclusively exclusive to all but the most exclusive aficionados, with exclusive credit lines, as reserved for the exclusive.  This excludes YOU.  ?

Love you HSA.  ❤️

I hate the boxes!

They can keep the Monte.

Looking forward to the QdO.0cb0ff954d3293a5e0d06a7042ae1ecd.jpg

I was referring solely to the design of the new 'luxury box'.  I'm happy HSA is successful and profiting.  And that QdO box is a cheeseballs.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I meant Habanos can do whatever they want (boxes, prices, formats, triple rings...) and no matter what they revenue will rise.

Odd to me that anyone would want to buy a box of cigars they never tried,  "Must buys".    Regular cigars with an extra band and marked up prices.  I see no excitement in anything here.

But I clearly stand alone here.

I can see your logic. Cigars are one of the few things I can think of that doesn’t fit into the mold of “try before you buy.” Most people buy a specific brand of coffee, cigarette, beer, etc.

But let me throw it out there for your consideration. Cigars are unique in the sense that they change over time. Some of the best cigars I’ve smoked came from boxes that I would have never bought had I tried just one. Over a couple of years “junk” turned to treasure.  It just seems that it’s a natural part of the allure. It seems almost tragic to miss out on the experience.

When will these be available and where can you get them?

Just look the 2018 Upmann EL is not even available yet.

Well someone has to buy some so that we can try. If you don't give it a go you will never know!

I'll just stick to buying cigars as it seems a safer dare thanks. Appreciate your opinion though.  We are all entitled to them.

Just had a chance to read through all the comments. It’s funny to me that in communist Cuba, they are acting like capitalists. Over here in the free world, we want to begrudge the Cubans for acting like capitalists.

Some seem to opine that the ELs consume product that could go into other regular production cigars. When you look at ELs as a percentage of total production, from what I can tell, less than 1%, that doesn’t seem to be reality.

If you don’t like EL’s, it’s easy, don’t buy them.

QdO and RA are interesting releases. The hermoso no. 2 is a great format, and the RA reminds me of that 2005 belicoso which was wonderful. I would definitely try them both. Monte doesn't do it for me (yawn). The 'luxury boxes' for all are ridiculous and will definitely drive the price up. The will have 0 issues moving these when they come out. My 2 cents.

Those boxes are starting to look like NC boxes.  A bit too gaudy for my tastes.  A plain, wood box with burnt in logos works for me.  These painted boxes introduce potential issues for storage if the paints/materials they use give off odors.  There have been a few NC releases where the fancy painted boxes smelled so much the manufacturer recommended removing the cigars and leaving the box outside of the humidor as to not contaminate the stock.  I do understand the use of fancy boxes for stuff like BHK, R, GR, etc.  It'd be a shame if design changes spilled into the regular production lines.  Habanos' IMO doesn't need eye popping box designs.  Unlike NC's, they don't compete on the shelf of American B&M's where a fancy box screams for attention.
