Help me out on a Cohiba question

Recommended Posts

I think the only way I can help you on this one, Rob, is to ring your Doctor to double check your blood pressure, heart rate and to confirm if those veins are indeed popping out the side of your head right now!

On a serious note, all marcas are prone to bands being applied with slight variations in uniformity. This is normal and one should come to expect it to occur, on occasion.

Okay, so I checked some of my Cohba acquistions tonight. Yes, sometimes they're perfect, like these Talismans...

And sometimes they're not, like these Cohiba Esplendidos and Cohiba Siglo V's...

P.S. And if there's any question/s about the colour of the wrappers on these Esplendidos, I had to adjust the image using Photoshop due to the exposure of the flash from my camera phone!

People...pffft!

I run into patients like this and my wife runs into customer like this at her store.

About a year ago, I decided to stop double-booking patients in anticipation of "no-shows".  Double booking caused patient flow to be erratic.  Sometimes everyone shows up.  And unlike an airline, I can't just boot people from the flight, so patients would sometimes end up waiting 30-45 minutes to get into their appointment.  Instead, I started to charged a large 100 USD no-show fee to cover overhead and revenue loss and not overbook anyone.  Very tidy and efficient.  I reissued my treatment agreement.  Had every patient sign it twice- the second form in huge 42 pt font.  It cut no-shows down to <5% overall, which is pretty good.  Patient flow is now highly efficient.  So a guy misses his appt and says he's not going to pay the no-show fee.  That's alright, you can go wherever else you're heart desires.  He then one-stars me on Google and tells me I should double-book patients to offset losses from no-shows...

Being that he's a patient and I don't have a signed release from him, I can't even acknowledge him in a rebuttal.  I can't even say thanks to someone who leaves a good review.

Can't please 'em all unfortunately.  Hope you find the most palatable resolution you can stomach and that dealing with his type is only a rare occurrence.

Post some pics of you can. No abuse please.  He is just misinformed. Plenty have been there before.

Surgery went fairly well. :ok: in recovery and bored.

I appreciate the hand!

Cohiba cigars never have uneven bands. Please ship me another box of real Cohiba Siglo II ‘s or refund me.

The horror. That said - I’ll take one for th the team and buy him out.. at a discount for the crooked bands, of course ?

Unfortunately,"there's always one black sheep in the herd." How to solve? If it is from the Country, where there is a network of LCDH, you can offer a dissatisfied buyer to go there for advice on the issue of authenticity. There are also cigar clubs where aficionado can try one cigar and identify the original with closed eyes.

But if it's a crook who comes to a restaurant and puts a dead cockroach to the salad for get a free dinner-nothing will solve the problem.

*What gets me is how these folks think that you're just gonna part with hundreds and hundreds of dollars just like 'THAT' on their whim. It can happen when our stash gets unhappily confiscated, and though some suppliers claim they may not be responsible for replacement...based on a "trust system" and because they like you and you're a dedicated customer - they'll replace the confiscated materials for you, Bless them! But THESE guys..."REPLACE my stogies, for I KNOW they are fakes that you sent me!" I mean what the F*ck!?

The world has approximately 7 billion people. A good 6.5 billion of them are likely a-holes. That leaves plenty of good ones! The odds are not any better separating the ignorant from the knowledgeable.

Take it from me, the education of people hell bent on being and remaining ignorant is a challenge and a waste of time. The world is filled with bad data. I help people who want to learn and be helped. If they cannot handle the truth of the matter I dismiss them rather rapidly and unfortunately sometimes quite rudely. The process works well for me. I cannot spend the time that I could devote to good people, squandering it on the terminally stupid and/or ignorant ones.

Did not know of your health issue my friend. I hope you get better soon.

I bet it is this, not ignorance as the foundation of this story.

:surprised: Wow, Ray, that's a pretty dismal outlook on humanity in general! I'd like to think that maybe a few more than 500,000,000 people are not a-holes! :smartass:  Don't get me wrong...I'm not naive enough to believe that an awful lot of folks in this world would do more dirt if they thought they could get away with it or not be seen doing it - and thus lose whatever opinion they may have worked to earn of themselves.  But I basically believe folks are in general decent in actions and believe in treating others the way they want to be treated. That goes across the spectrum: I've watched in my (I know short) 61 years of life people who where if they weren't in the KKK then I'm not a short, chubby, cantankerous old bat - take great personal risk to their own safety to help minorities and others of complexion they don't like, out of physical danger and such. And there are some of my people who cause other Black folks to be ready to take a sheet and cut two eye holes out. I know that. The very people doing the most screaming, condemning and denigrating of gay people are gay people who are pretending not to be gay. Geee, man how did I get off on this tangent when we are just talking about some jack-ball joker trying to get free cigars!?   If we do want to give this dude (or dudette) the benefit of the doubt and just chalk it up to ignorance about authentic vs. counterfeit Havanas, then a good educational quick course would possibly solve the problem...IF they are the kind of individual who can admit they were incorrect. And knowing how hard that is for some of us out here, I've found it is easier for people to admit, "Gee, I was wrong!" if they are dealing with someone who kindly and gently corrects them, as opposed to someone who corrects them  being the kind of person to berate, insult, and criticize him or her about their mistake. Okay - down off my soapbox.

I don’t have pictures of uneven bands . I have seen boxes of cigars from habanos with uneven bands.

what I can say and add is the following facts.

-Cuba is Cuba , their quality control is not exactly world class

-had a proper box of LE’s with uneven and loose bands ,

-humidity can cause the cigar to be slightly skinner or thicker which can cause the bands to be loose ( I suspect this is the case )

-if you earn 20usd a month , and your just putting bands on all day , Issues with some bands being more loose is common

-again humidity can cause a cigar to shrink a bit to cause the bands to be loose and uneven !

I was just by the Ritz in London. Mr. Ritz coined the phrase, “The customer is always right.” Or so it is said. A CORO in the smoking lounge in that fine hotel is 47 Pounds. For that kind of coin the customer and the proprietor can both afford to be right all of the time.

Send him the link to video below.  Tell him to scroll to the 3:30 mark and see first hand just how much time and effort is spent "precisely" applying the band.  Be sure to point out that this is at El Laguito.

So is he mad that some of the bands are not physically placed on the cigars all at the same position, or that the hologram "bands" on the edges of the bands are not uniform in size? Hope that makes sense haha

Here is an anomaly. Just got these from our host. Most of the Cohiba cedar sheets have the embossed or pressed paint. This most recent box I got was just painted on. Factory anomaly I am sure. e3f9eacc3c66a3f8facf4e4b4a4e435b.jpg

One on the left is an older box of Coro 2016 again from our host. One on the right as you can see is only painted, not burnt in.

Here is a picture of the cigars. Straight bands mind you ?f9a791cd5fd94d58f34cf658a5133bdb.jpg

The band work on some was sloppy in that they were not aligned correctly as they wrapped around the cigar.

It's a fair point. It is something most of us have seen many times.

Bottom line is that there is no higher level of packaging perfection in Cohiba than Partagas or Upmann Etc.

Janet,

Like me or not (not aimed at you personally) I believe that I am known by the people that have some knowledgeable of me as a giving person. I like to help. I love to mentor.

Using myself (my biases, behavior, prejudices etcetera notwithstanding) as an example, I can freely tell you that people in general are by far more apt to take than give. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of eugenics... You are not getting a load of master race crap from me. As a lover of freedom, people IMHO are free to be a-holes, and I am not talking of doing them all in...! But as an a-hole (not you of course, a general comment regarding a-holes) one should take responsibility for it and own it. The population of the world that I know, in general, is not at all self aware. Most are happy point a finger at the other guy, right after they pick a fight with him.

I live on the outskirts of a metro area. Man, some of these folks on the roadway will kill you over a piece of real estate that they will have possession of for 1/1000 of a second. Just a stray example. Those are people, being people!

People are not inherently good or bad... But people are human. And human means both capable of both wonderful and atrocious acts. So from my part, I am not condemning people, I am just observing them and reporting on what I see, some poetic license notwithstanding.

You have commented on some examples of your beliefs. I don't really want to go there, we are all going to have our examples. We have had two world wars, and endless skirmishes and battle between all forms of people. We have had ideological groups claiming to be against one form of ill to people just kill 100 million of their own followers over a bad idea... I don't have to go too far, and apparently you don't either to make my point.

To summarize I have simply found that some people are not happy. It is no small number of people. And that will lead to all forms of issues. I cannot fix it. You cannot fix it. Governments cannot fix it. Rob cannot fix it.... It is just better to leave it broken and move on.

I am now writing the Cohiba guy...

Cohiba guy...!

I have known our host for 2 decades. We are separated by thousands of miles and certainly not of like mind all the time. I love the SOB... He can have the keys to my house, my car... etc. HE is an eff'n fine man, a generous and gracious man. An honest man! I will wager you don't know another man like him. If you did you would recognize what i am saying.

If you don't know shit about cigars then just ask someone who does. Let me help you! Don't be rude to my friend, for your own good if not for his. You will only end up the fool and ruin a relationship with one of the few honest and decent people on this planet.

Are you good for sending me the cigars? Then I will PayPal you for them and buy them from you.

If the cigars suck... blame Tabacuba. They made them. My mate here is just the middleman, and one of the few honest people I know in the cigar world.

In my opion, people put too much emphasis on perfection of Cohibas.  When was the last time you got a box and crest of seal was perfectly on corner of box. I have a box of pirimides  that all have uneven feet.  Does that mean they are not real? Of course not, I chalk up as humans error. I still smoke them, and once lit, the uneven foot is no factor at all. Cuba is Cuba and there quality control is lacking in all departments.

To be a little bit more charitable to the Cohiba guy, the amount of deception in the CC world is at the heart of this bullshit.  Getting burned brings out the worst in otherwise decent people.  I can't imagine how much of this crap Rob has to put up with.  Yes, it is part of the biz.  But Rob's remarkable transparency to alleviate his customer's cynical doubt is indeed extraordinary.  One need only make the effort to look around or communicate respectfully with him (and his peeps) to rest easy.  This guy's failure to make that effort and so-called "evidence" of being duped is what makes him a dick.

I am a self-avowed asshole myself, but it ain't that hard.  I know from personal experience that Rob bends over backwards to keep his reputation in this dog-eat-dog biz intact.  I'm not ass-kissing. Just pointing out good business practice and the truth.  Glad I found my way here.

With that said, I now see from SignalJoe's video why some of the bands are glued heavily enough to hold tectonic plates together.  There's got to be a better way to apply the glue than that FFS.
