dowjr1 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I am a fan of the 2's and Prez turned me onto them, but I think I like the No. 1 even better. I like the CG format a bit more and the flavors seem a little richer or darker. Perhaps Prez/others have similar tasting notes they'd like to share. I just noticed I have three boxes of the No.1 so I must like them hahaha! 1
ChrisMG Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I had my first JL#1 recently and it has been one of the best smokes of the year for me. Box code is ELU-May-14. Spicy with some sweet notes into the 2nd third. 2
busdriver Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I am a big fan of the No.2 but haven't had the same experience with the No.1s. I have only had a couple, so maybe they weren't the best examples. I will have to bust into the box I have been saving to see how those are. I love the size, though! 1
MC4 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I've had one box of each, and prefer #2 over the other. 1
NSXCIGAR Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I've never noticed any difference in blend between the two models even going back to the 90s. MRN does state that he believes the No. 1 may be a tad stronger than the No. 2 but this was in reference to cigars pre-2004 and again, I've never been able to say that this is true. The blends are much stronger than they were 10 years ago anyway. JL was known as a medium, woody and floral cigar until it became a citrusy-espresso cigar several years ago. 1
WarEagle Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I too prefer the CG format but with JL I prefer the #2 to th #1. 1 1
Engineer99 Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Great marca....Can't go wrong with either vitola. I do lament the loss of the mareva in this blend. The ones I've had as recent as a year ago have been magnificent specimens in both the flavor and construction. 1
shlomo Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 JL1 wins for me. Not close. Have smoked many of each, but have never yet been tempted to pick up a box of 2s. They regularly disappoint either being rough and cheap tasting, or just boring. JL1....mmmm...just checked and have none left. Once I see a decent price, I'll be all over them! I find them stronger than the 2s, but in a rich, full flavour way and not in a nicotine power way. 1
RijkdeGooier Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 When I want a bit stronger tasting smoke, I smoke the JL 1 or 2. Agree with Shlomo in general, would add that it is likely due to the more concentrated shap. The JL No.2 is a better outdoor smoke, the JL No.1 a much better indoor smoke to me.
Williamos Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 I like them both a lot. JL1 gives me straw and honeycomb, strong but very smooth. One of those cigars that seems to fly under the radar. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BrightonCorgi Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 Pre-band era I liked the 1's more, but now I they are about the same to me. Depends on what vitola I would rather smoke at the time. I am out of either one at the moment. 1
Danimalia Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 I've only smoked a handful of each, and though I prefer CGs to robustos, I think I prefer the #2. It just delivers more flavor in my opinion. I require further research
MPfit Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Jl1 is one of my fave sticks. I actually prefer the robusto (no2) vitola but the no1 flavor profile has me enjoying it much more. Would box the no1 and get half or quarter packs of no2.
QuaiDorkay Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 Always liked the JL1 better but since the blend change those Woody/leather/floral notes are not there, I feel I like them both now with an edge to the JL2. I keep thinking with more time down the newer blended JL1's will get better though. Or maybe just in my head.
Mattb82 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Love the JL2 but it seems to have too much of a nicotine kick for my ticker
Meklown Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 didn't want to create a new thread so reviving this one - would love to hear opinions on the differences between the two! i am familiar with the 2 and it is part of my rotation but have not tried the 1 so i am wondering how does it compare?
Huckleberry Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Is it just me or aren’t the wrappers typically darker on the 2s versus the 1s?
djrey Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 In my experience the 2 is the fuller bodied more flavorful of the two. The No 1 to me generally seems wispy and milder in flavor. Granted this could have just been a poor box. 2
gustavehenne Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 I've got a few boxes of each and to my palate there is a very slight but almost unnoticeable difference in the blend. I find the 2 slightly richer (but not stronger, nicotine wise) than the 1 although I prefer the 1 for the vitola. You can't go wrong with either... For me, it's more of a question of how much time do I have to smoke - longer, 1, less time, 2. 1
Silverstix Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 14 hours ago, Huckleberry said: Is it just me or aren’t the wrappers typically darker on the 2s versus the 1s? Good observation. I agree - I would say in my experience the JL1's are predominantly Colorado Claro shaded, whereas I've had JL2's seem to be all over the place - I've had some with very dark (almost maduro) wrappers on them. To me, the JL1 is a little bit lighter bodied but has much more complexity and depth. The JL2 isn't as subtle, more full bodied with loud flavors that jump out at you. I smoke both but I personally like the JL1 better 3
Juliano88 Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 I find the JL2 to be more consistent and the citrus flavors are more pronounced. 1
