El Presidente Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I was asked yesterday as to the best two boxes of cigars to choose from the past three years of Limited Editions releases. It was only when I revisited the list, that I realized how strong a lineup it has been. From a Habanos perspective (Sales) I have used a traffic light system to look at what were winners and losers. Only one real loser in the R&J De Luxe. Again I am talking sales. The HDM Grand Epicure has been a slow performer. The H. Upmann Mag 56 is still up in the air. They both received amber lights. The rest were/are bolt away winners for HSA. Now from a personal perspective as to quality, flavour, personal utility, I had trouble picking two. I settled for: Partagas Seleccion Privada Punch Serie D'Oro Number 2. Out of all of them I believe the Magnum 56 will be the standout in a decade but a decade is a long time away. Which would be the two cigars from the list you would choose today for yourself? 2013 Hoyo de Monterrey - Grand EpicurePunch - Serie D'Oro No. 2Romeo y Julieta - De Luxe 2014 Bolívar - Super CoronasCohiba - Robustos SupremosPartagás - Selección Privada 2015 H. Upmann - Magnum 56Ramón Allones - Club Allones
Orion21 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The Grand Epicure has really developed into something special ( smoked 8). The rg is horribly large, but the blend is exceptional. I have gone deep on the Club Allones because of the size and the fact that they are outstanding cigars (smoked 2).
westg Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Grand Epicure... one of my favourite cigars Had my first mag 56 earlier this week , absolutely magnificent can't wait to smoke more in a decade mine will be long gone
riazp Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I really enjoyed the 3 grand epicures i have smokes thus far. But I have a feeling that the RACA will be the best of the bunch in 3 years time
danny Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The Partagas Selección Privada is far and away the top cigar for me of the bunch. A little on the fence about the rest but would probably have to go with the Cohiba Robustos Supremos; not a being a fan of the vitola or price, but still being a great tasting cigar. Will have to wait and see but the Club Allones could be something really special.
TheMonk Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Haven't tried the Mag 56 yet (very soon, I hope), and being a big Upmann fan I suspect I'm gonna love it, but for now I'd have to say the Partagas Selección Privada and the Cohiba Robusto Supremos are both stellar LEs, IMHO. Only bought a box of each, and I definitely should've bought a couple more.
ayepatz Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Love the Party Seleccion Privada and the Boli SC.
ChanceSchmerr Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Punch Serie D'Oro Bolivar Super Corona Having tried all except the Mag 56, which I won't be buying, those two above are the only ones with depth of flavour now, and depth of flavour to last for a while yet. The Club Allones may join them but it was too wet for me to make a good call when I tried it. I will try again soon. The rest were mediocre to downright insultingly bad. I'm still kicking myself for not yet securing a box of the Super Corona. I hope to do so in the next year......
CaptainQuintero Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I think I'm starting to turn slightly porcine, I've only tried one; the Bolivar and it didn't leave a great impact on me. My interest in EL has died off significantly, the soaring prices in recent years certainly hasn't helped
Puros Y Vino Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Punch Serie D'Oro - count me in as a fan. Smoked more than a handful of these while in Havana, Nov 2013. Ramon Allones Club Allones - Simply superb. A dynamic, flavour bomb. Must go deep on these.
Artist Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 14 was the year all of them are stellar but the Party privada and the boli supercorona... like kendrick lamar said: MY GOD where is a lifeguard when you need one? 1
JohnS Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 For me...Partagas Seleccion Privada and Ramon Allones Club Allones. (Although I've not sampled the H.Upmann Magnum 56 yet)
maxcjs0101 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I've not tried any ELs but why are the RyJs selling slow?
Mr.T Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Another vote for Partagas Seleccion Privada and Boli Super Corona. Love how rich these two are Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LLC Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Punch Serie D'Oro - count me in as a fan. Smoked more than a handful of these while in Havana, Nov 2013. Ramon Allones Club Allones - Simply superb. A dynamic, flavour bomb. Must go deep on these. For me these are the clear winners and I am deep and getting deeper in the RACA
El Presidente Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 I've not tried any ELs but why are the RyJs selling slow? Pricing, more subtle, R&J. Very good cigar but none of that in your face bold flavour that the others deliver. Part of this is HSA/Tabacubas fault. R&J was put out to seed for a decade+ . Crap cigars. Came good in 2013. Hard to turn around a superliner. Takes time and commitment. 1
Jeremy Festa Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Have only tried the Punch and the Grand Epicure. Both were great. And I would only be interested in the Club Allones from the rest of the those listed. Sent from my iPhone
Habana Mike Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 For me and judging by the the number of each I've smoked it's the Punch and Super Corona. Like the RACA and interested to see how it develops. Note trend toward the "smaller" ring gauges
in0gravity Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 My personal top two out of the above are: - Partagas Seleccion Privada - Romeo y Julieta Romeo de Luxe But I believe that the Magnum 56 will surpass them in the long run. regards Lars
GavLew79 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Love the Hoyo Grand Epicure 2013 and really loved the RA Club Allones 2015.
Stevieboy Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 1. Punch Serie d'Oro by quite a margin. Outstanding cigar. Not just my fave EL but one of the best cigars I've ever smoked 2. Bolivar Super Corona - yowza! Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 1
Karlaugust Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I think: 1. Ramon Allones Club Allones 2. Bolivar Super Corona Gesendet von meinem GT-I8200N mit Tapatalk
David88 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I have had and enjoyed a Bolivar Super Corona but nothing else from the EL range. Personally I am unsure about the EL and RE ranges. Perhaps I am too cynical but it just seems like an excuse to stick an extra band on and hike up the price. I think I need to give some a go before i write them off completely though.
Bulldog4 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 i haven't smoked the punch but i have a box in olh maybe time to ship that puppy out here... for me i enjoyed the cohiba supremos alot but just too damn big if they were a 56 or 54 i think they'd be my top2. so with that mine selection is boli super corona part selccion privada
