galtline Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I just dont get the fascination with this cigar: I just smoked an esplendido and I have to say its a very very average cigar. I have also had a siglo 1 and siglo 4. I am alone in this boat ?
Oscar300 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Nah your not alone mate, I have a good selection of Cohiba and not in love with any of them. Nice yes, but not amazing.......yet!
Hiroshiro Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 How Long have they been sitting for? 3 years avg 5 years is where it turns around and gets good
Diamondog Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Cohiba is king in my world, end of discussion for me.
Lant63 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I would say that 10 out the 25 best cigars I have ever smoked are Cohiba. All of them are from 2010 except the 2012 behike that I have. So with that said they do have some age on them. All of them have a grassy sweet honey characteristic to them that I love. Very very consistent cigars. I Plan on getting a box of Siglo 4 in a couple months to try the 2012/2013 years!
galtline Posted November 18, 2013 Author Posted November 18, 2013 I love Epicure 2, D4, RASS, JL2 - To me these cigars have so much more complexity to them. For the money I honestly think its hard to beat these cigars. I think a Bolivar Finos can go against any Cohiba.
joeypots Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 As obnoxious as it is to say, "5 years and they get good." I gotta say, "5 years and they get good." They are also better a bit dry. Wet ones seem more bitter than other cigars at the same RH. So hows that? Age them and make sure they are at just the right humidity. Pretty soon you are going to need a humidor for your Monte Cristos and another for your Cohibas.
potpest Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Although I enjoyed them, I've not fallen in love yet with any of the very small selection of singles I've smoked. I have other boxes on the list I want to buy before I look at Cohiba. Having said that, the ones I've had have been pretty young and my feeling is, as seems to be the consensus, that they will really come into their own with quite a few years of age on them. Maybe in a couple of years Ill buy a couple of boxes to lay down long term, but currently my coin is going on the other regular production lines which i'm loving and are offering much more bang for my buck. For similar money I'll always gravitate towards a box of Lusitanias over a Coro or Siglo IV. At the end of the day everyone's tastes are different, smoke what gives you pleasure, just because they are the most expensive doesn't mean you need to like them...........or maybe i'm just a tight arse
backslide Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 You're not alone at all. IMHO they're extremely overrated and over priced.
El Presidente Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 There are cetainly some marques that don't resonate with some palates. just a fact of life i have certainly has some very ordinary cohiba in my time....also so some brilliant ones. Brilliant Cohiba to me requires excellent raw material/blending + time down. There really aren't too many shortcuts. Recent Cohiba Siglo VI and CORO have been excellent young and I know they will be brilliant down the track. I haven't got the same feeling about recent Esplendidos, quality being average. After smoking many hundreds of diferent Cohiba from different boxes and years..... over the past 20 years....I think that there are better bets for Fresh cigars. However as an aged cigar they really deliver something special.
stogieluver Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I agree. I don't understand what it is about them that you have to age them to make them good, or maybe better. My budget goes to sticks I can enjoy now. It would be a luxury for me to buy a box of very expensive VI's to lay them down and not touch them for five years. I just don't have the space, budget, or will power. I'm 58. Hell, I could be dead in five years.
JohnLeupp Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 I own (and have smoked) quite a bit of Cohiba's and tend to believe the hype exceeds the experience, particularly with the Esplendido and the CoRo. That said, the Siglo IV is in my top three and an outstanding cigar, and the BHK 52s have been very good and have excellent potential.
MC4 Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Every Cohiba I've had, was excellent (except a box of Siglo I which is ok). A few months ago, I bought a box of CoRo 2012 and ever since I've been buying Cohiba.
nick17 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I have smoked almost the entire Cohiba range and I agree at times they are nothing special however there times when I smoke a choiba for example the BHK 56 I thought was an an astonishing cigar vary complex and enjoyable the conversation with my two best friends was almost solely about the cigar. Then there are things like the CoRoBo I personally think it is over priced and not worth the money and will probably never buy another one because I can smoke a PSD4 and enjoy it several times more then a CoRoBo. As a note I have never smoked a Cohiba that was more then two or so years old.
dvickery Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 made for the American market and the American wallet ... derrek
Smallclub Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 made for the American market and the American wallet ... there was a life before the internet and online cigar sales…
Smallclub Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 dark coronas extras. corona especiales – the "dark corona extra" comes in a glass top box
poorman Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 For me the recent young CoRo's have been good. Some of the younger Siglo VI's have been good but not up to their price point. I have a bunch of 07 Siglo V's that are fantastic right now. With that in mind, going to let the VI's sit for quite some time. Agreed the Hoyo #2 can't be beat for the money, loving those. Not a huge fan of Boli's myself, however, have found the PC to be enjoyable. Chacun a son gout, as those French say.
headstand Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 My experience with Coro was a revelation. Age required, then awesome.

CdnLimitada Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Fo me they have been the most consistent of all the marcas. It doesn't mean I have loved them all but I can say that I have enjoyed all but one. That was a secretos. It was one stick but it was so bad someone would have to give me one to try another and even then I'd think twice . If I am not close to my humi and want to be sure I am going to enjoy a cigar, I have no worries when I reach for a Cohiba.
laficion Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 For me, any cigar should be good to smoke right now and not later . For the prices COHIBA gets, they should smoke great now. That's all. Like all cigars, they are meant to be smoked today , and not in a few years . Guy
Hash Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Cohiba is king in my world, end of discussion for me. Absolutely agree.
MarkofStark Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I've just recently had my first Cohiba and it was fine, but I didnt find anything special about it. It was fresh though and I have another single in my humidor. I think I will take the veteran advice and keep it for a few years.
