The best thing about all these treats is after the nuclear mushroom hits, I will be standing and the granola worship pets will be wasted dust bunnies. MWAH HA!!!! UpInSmoak
Way to go unions! You don't get what you want so 18,000 jobs are lost. Makes a lot of sense to me.... How discouraging right before the holidays.
perfectform
I think I had a ding dong or some such packed in my lunch every single day of elementary school. I was never fat. Have to get these kids outside once in a while.

How discouraging right before the holidays. Yeah there couldn't possibly be more to the story than that. The corporate fat cats trying to force the labor to take pay cuts and lose benifits while they do not couldn't possibly have anything to do with it. Never. Anyways goodbye to terrible snacks! ptrthgr8
Don't forget Zingers!!! Weird. I grew up with Zingers being made by Dolly Madison. When the hell did Hostess start making those? ptrthgr8
Yeah there couldn't possibly be more to the story than that. The corporate fat cats trying to force the labor to take pay cuts and lose benifits while they do not couldn't possibly have anything to do with it. Never. Anyways goodbye to terrible snacks! Please. Hostess was able to reach an agreement with the Teamsters - the *Teamsters* - but the BCTGM couldn't possibly agree to anything. Bah. Unions suck. At any rate, it's all part of the plan. File for bankruptcy, get the legal OK to nuke the crappy union contracts as part of the process, restart your operations without the union overhead, get back to business making one of America's most iconic brands. Success! There's a reason why only ~8% of private workforces are unionized today. Unions in the private sector are anachronistic and redundant. Generally speaking of course. I'm sure individual unionistas are just like everyone else... but union leadership is an epic fail. Thank god the public sector is alive, otherwise unions would be a thing of the past. khomeinist
Greg... Thanks for sharing your profound ideological insights. Members say that they are in unions and you make blanket statements. Hostess was owned by private equity firms. Get your facts straight before insulting people. I am sure that many on this forum support collective bargaining. Must everything turn on dogmatic/divisive politics? Insert emoticons.
ptrthgr8
Thanks for sharing your profound ideological insights. Guys say they are in unions and you make blanket statements. Hostess was owned by private equity firms. Get your facts straight before insulting people. Strange. I had read in several places that this was a labor dispute between Hostess and several different unions. Is that not the case?

Funny, if your reading about this how did you not read what companies it is parent of? Hostess also makes Dolly Madison, Drake's and Nature's Pride snacks. There's a reason why only ~8% of private workforces are unionized today. Yup. Reagan. Though on second thought I will miss Ho Hos.
khomeinist
No. 'Hostess' as such has been loaded down by private equity debt. I am sure that labor costs were a serious concern, but the situation was more complicated than the union-centric analysis being offered by some pundits. CaptainQuintero
I hate the very idea of unions, they stop me putting children to work in my textiles mill and they even made me give the miners in my coal mine a break every 12 hours! That's not even mentioning the fact that I have to fire the 8 year olds who push the coal carts up from the coal face and I have to wait to rehire them when they are 16! They will force me to give them shoes and safety lamps next, this is basically communism, it's sick. This country was built on hard work, these unions are going to destroy this country by stamping all over the ideals that it was founded on. I had to fire all these men, look at their faces, now what are they going to do all day? They are going to want to tax me next out of the money I earn to give them free schooling or some other such socialist nonsense.

Unions served a purpose back in the day, but now so much of what the unions fought for was legislated into law by the federal and state govts. What were the unions fighting for back in the early 20th Century that isn't currently part of the various labor laws? Child labor laws? Check. Equal opportunity? Check. Workplace safety? Check. Many others, I'm sure. Wasn't that why unions were started? To supposedly make things better for the workers? Cheers, ~ Greg ~
ptrthgr8
Though on second thought I will miss Ho Hos. CaptainQuintero
It was just a bit of fun I don't own a mine or a mill! I genuinely didn't know unions were seen as negative by anyone apart from a few company owners who would rather see less pay/more working hours etc. is this just in the US or are there any other countries/members from countries which this is a big issue? Duxnutz
Shame about hostess, even more about the union beat up. I've worked for union and non union companies and definitely treated better at the union place. Just wish they'd repeal the railway labour act so we could strike!
