Dbone Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Yeah, I'm in the school of thought were if I can buy it in a cab instead of a dress box I will. In some cases that means having to by a 50 cab. Love them, but man they take up a lot of space LOL It's one thing to have a couple half empty dress boxes, but a couple half empty cabs really hurt humidor real-estate. Think I'm about to combine a half empty Boli PC and half empty PLPC together Until I can be fortunate enough to buy yet another humidor, guess that's the strategy for now.
pjansen Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Im not to sure how that will affect the cigars themselves being together. I guess it just depends if you are planning on them being together for long periods of time or if your are going to smoke them quickly.
dB69 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Two 25 cabs take more space than one 50 cab. Just fill a half empty 50 cab with dress box cigars of the same marque/vitola.
tmac77 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 simple solution. Just send me your 50 cabs and I will pony up a 25 dress box in return.
Colt45 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I regularly combine cigars from different boxes as needed to make space.
maverickdrinker Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 everything goes in ziplock bags now for me. Cabs take up too much space. I store the empty cabs in the garage so I can use them when I finally pony up for a cabinet humidor or humidor room.

Smallclub Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I would never mix PLPCs and Boli PCs in the same cab. When they age gracefully both develop their own specific aroma that'd be a shame to blend and fuse…

When they age gracefully both develop their own specific aroma that'd be a shame to blend and fuse… I wasn't sure about this. Colt said he does in a couple posts up. I thought the only no-no was on mixing CC's and NC"s. But any CC's wouldn't really be hurt or affected by being stored together. But what you suggest makes sense..
Colt45 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I've combined cigars for some time. I have wooden desktops where I've stored groups of different cigars together (the humidor in effect one big box) for years - I've yet to have a Montecristo magically taste like a Bolivar To each their own
CigarB Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I agree with Colt, I don't believe in the marrying/transfer of flavors (unless you include artificially flavored cigars).

But all has been good.
Puros Y Vino Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 You can always grab empty dress boxes from your local B&M.
riazp Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I regularly combine cigars from different boxes as needed to make space. Same here, i have a whole bunch of singles in a empty cab. no affect on the flavors whatsoever
CigarAsh Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Same here, i have a whole bunch of singles in a empty cab. no affect on the flavors whatsoever I rarely pull smokes from my cabs or dress boxes and immediately smoke them. I usually grab 4 or 5 of all my different smokes I have in stock and transfer them into the cedar drawers in the humidor. Then I just grab from the "pulled" stock in the drawers. Let's me see at a glance what I have in the rotation. Let's me pick them up and fondle them while I try and pick the next smoke. Eliminates constantly messing with the cabs in the bottom of the humidor and helps to balance out my smoking by almost "forcing" me to include some variety in the rotation.
ramon_cojones Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 ^not me, I enjoy seeing, touching and smelling the cab's contents
mbrody Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I just wait until the box gets to about 12 cigars, then I put those loose sticks in a tray with a divider and smoke em as singles. There is one box I did succumb to real estate: Cab of SLR DC's half full. I have a full box of 898's sitting on top of the remaining SLRs!

jedipastor Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 I mix cigars in boxes all the time, otherwise I'd need even more than 9 bins of cigars. If there are only a few gone out of a dress box or whatever I won't bother, but if something is nearly half gone, I'll put other smokes in there.

PigFish Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Cats and Dogs living togehter... what is the world coming to? I want to know how the cigar knows if its wrapper is touching another wrapper or its own binder, or the wrapper of another branded cigar? I am just curious! I mean it is awfully dark in that box. Can Sancho tell Simon by smell? -LOL -Piggy
Scdalak Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 My 50 Cab of HDM DC's is larger than my car... Even though I have a large cabinet humidor I did have to split them up. Total bummer...
isa Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Well, i have desktop humidors & put all my cigars there. So they are all together, not necessarily touching cigars of other vitola, but sharing the same space.
