brian1 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I am not surprised, this line never did anything for me. Premium price for sub premium product IMHO. I have some 07 Fundadores that still taste like shite.
skbe Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 this is too bad. they are canceling very good cigars such as the oficios of san cristobal de la habana and now the trinidad...
Ophidion Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Wait they are canceling the Oficios? What the hell HSA!?!
Michel1968 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Too bad... Although I'm not a fan of Trinidad persé I have great memories of Fundy's and Extra's. As mentioned by lots of others in this thread... 'discontinuation for now and relaunched in a few years time as premium' only proofes the somewhat sinister path H SA has chosen to walk. I hope they get lost and decide to do what they do best: producing cigars, outsource marketing (in any) and sales but foremost stop trying to create hypes which on the long run will blow in their faces anyway.
CaptainQuintero Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Doesn't change a thing for me, never bought any more than the odd single due to the stupid price. Cohiba and Trinidad could go completely and it wouldn't affect a single second of my cigar smoking enjoyment. Sad for those who enjoy them though.
riazp Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 As much as I love the reyes, I won't bother trying to hoard them. Not at that price. Its a great great cigar, but for about 50-60$ less a box on average ill stick with bpc, bcj, rascc, shorts, ect. Heck for the same money as a box of reyes I can get a box or rass, choix supremes or practically any robusto in the habanos line up. Just shows how their pricing makes no sense. Sad to see the reyes go, but in the end ill just replace it with something else for less money.
Jason55555 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Gonna pick up a box of Trinidad Reyes its sad to see it go but the price in Canada was over the top never wanted to pick one up for the prices they demanded there are so many other better cigars, on Cigar Czar box of 12 is going for $90 which is a reasonable price since a single Reyes in Toronto cost 18.99.
ptrthgr8 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Hmm... I picked up a 12-box of the Robusto Extras about a month and a half ago. Box code is MSE ABR 11. I tried one right away and was underwhelmed, but thought it would be good with some age on it... figured I'd give them another few months, try another, and then see about ordering more if I liked them. But looks like I may want to ration this box over a longer term. I'm always bummed about having less variety and options, but I'm not entirely torn up over the news. I've not had all that many Trinis yet, so I don't have a huge opinion one way or another. ~ Greg ~
dB69 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 What?!? I'll be missing Reyes, but luckily not too much. Adding a shiny band and a few dollars per stick in the future makes me not buying them anymore, never. Do you like this HSA?
thechenman Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Damn...I'm going to miss this marca. First the Robusto T, now the Reyes and Fundadores. ..every year we lose so many great cigars that get replaced by jawbreakers and Monte Opens. Go figure...
perfectform Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Meh. I've said before that I wouldn't bat an eyelash if the marque was discontinued and I haven't. Never did have any luck with it in general. I guess it goes to show that the line was a failure as a "co-flagship" marque. RIP. As for re-releasing the line later as an ultra-premium brand and charging up the wazoo, I hope that all of you, especially the Trinidad lovers, will vote a resounding no with your wallet.
IcedCanuck Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 The official message, and what we were told in HAV a few months back, is that they will be discontinued to be re-launched again in a few years as a "premium brand". Never found any sense in their messages, as I never believed in their sense in the first place I thought Trinidad was already considered a 'premium brand'. They certainly had a premium price tag to boot. As with lots of others I also enjoyed the Reyes but never grabbed a box due to the price which is the same reason why I won't stock up. As much as I do like them I couldn't care a less whether or not they bring it back unless they lower the price to be more reasonable and inline with everything else. From what I've seen HSA doing these past couple years sways me to conclude that will simply not happen.
maverickdrinker Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 going to smoke one right now to willow in the sadness.
ramon_cojones Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Not a loss for me, terrible for those who enjoy them.
Lotusguy Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Bummer, but IMO not as tragic as the evisceration of LGC and Diplomaticos, for example. The premium price never sat to well with me. Might pick up a few more Fundies before they are gone but I think that will be quite a while before they are sold out. Got enough Reyes to last me a while.
PigFish Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Let me guess. The new brand will no longer be Trinidad but renamed "MyBad!" The cigar will start at 60 ring, have 3 'bling ring' bands and a black lacquer box!!! Cost per stick about $60.00 Way to go Tabacuba!!! Go get'em tigers!!! FU Tabacuba. Sincerely, The Pig
Ken Gargett Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 just caught up with this. seriously? given the history? the popularity with many cigar lovers? telstra must be outsourcing their management skills. what dills! SHAME, HABANOS, SHAME!
Skitalets Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Bummer, but IMO not as tragic as the evisceration of LGC and Diplomaticos, for example. The premium price never sat to well with me. Might pick up a few more Fundies before they are gone but I think that will be quite a while before they are sold out. Got enough Reyes to last me a while. Agreed. I've had a few singles and while good none of them were compelling enough to justify the lofty prices for a box. There are other things I'd rather smoke. Maybe this will focus attention (and sales) on some other cigars to save some long-and-skinnies and short format cigars I like. Definitely understand the frustration of those who loved these though.
greenpimp Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 Over the years I've had some wonderful Fundadore, Reyes and Coloniales. With some age and a good one, there is a wonderful, kind of cashew characteristic I never found in another marca. Frankly, regardless of what your overall thoughts are on the Trinidad marca, it is sad for all cigar lovers to watch them do this. Smaller brands with thinner ring gauges. Goodbye! Soon it will be a marca you DO hold near and dear.
Orion21 Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 My opinion is they are pushing those who have the budget for Trini towards the higher priced RE, EL and Cohiba lines that are selling with big profits. Too bad.
Smallclub Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 The cigar will start at 60 ring, have 3 'bling ring' bands and a black lacquer box!!! Cost per stick about $60.00 And the text of the leaflet will be written in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Bengali and Russian…
jedipastor Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 I'm smoking a Coloniales right now with my morning coffee, or rather my mourning coffee.
