CBL Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 With the recent deletion news and posts by Laficion and Piggy I decided to get some new cigars while I still could and boy am I glad I did! Bolivar Coronas Extra - LAG NOV 10 Quai D'Orsay Coronas - LRE ABR 06 The QdO's smell AMAZING, but the Bolivars look deliciously dark and oily! Can't wait to try them. I'd smoke one right now, but they feel really soft and spongy so I think I'll need to let them rest for a while, maybe even drybox a couple of each.
dicko Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Fine looking cigars mate. I got a december 10 box of BCE's last week too. I've had two already, excellent, if a little wet still. the rest are going to sleep. Yours look HEAPS better than mine though! those QdO's look great too. let us know how they all smoke!
cigcars Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 OOOOooohhh - Congratulations - but OOOoooohhh!!!
Vortigan Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Damn those BCE's look good!! Very nice score!
melies Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Very nice boxes, my QdO arrived a few weeks ago and my BCE are supposed to arrive this week
bassman Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I grabbed some BCEs & a box of LGC Tianos. Already have a few cabs of BCEs, but can't have too many of those. I actually prefer lighter wrappers on BCEs. As for the Tianos, didn't have any. The QdeO Coronas don't do much for me, but I like the recent Imperiales.
laficion Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 They look great, give us your thoughts on each when you decide to smoke them.
mkz Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Congrats to the QdO! I still got one and a half box left of the coronas and they are evolving perfectly!
77stoneblues Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 I've got a box of QdO Coronas on the way, and I can't wait... More so after seing these pics.
CBL Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 My hands are itching to try one of both! I had a Coronas Extra from '06 on my birthday, but I was poolside on a hotel rooftop and it was windy as hell so I couldn't keep it burning straight and therefor couldn't fully enjoy it, but I remember it having an amazing start. The QdO's just seem to be something I'd enjoy. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for a mild to light smoke with some subtle tastes. BTW. I asked the vendor to give me dark and oily wrappers on those Bolivars and he really delivered! I intend to keep 5 in my humidor over here and send the rest of the box back home to age. I'm assuming a little age will do these quiet a bit of good I'll probably smoke a QdO the beginning of next week, it's moon festival in Taiwan on monday and school starts on tuesday so I have something to celebrate. Might light one up while my uncle prepares the family BBQ on monday afternoon
Ghabanos Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Why keep them so far away??? I'll age them for u in Hk
mash Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 The Quai D'Orsay are my favorite morning cigar. You'll love them.
jedipastor Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 I've never smoked a QdO. None of the shops here sell them. Until a post here a few weeks ago, I honestly thought they were a cheap mixed-filler type like Vegueros. Looks like I should find one and give it a try
sblevit Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 I recently stocked up on four boxes of BCEs and am thinking of adding more for shits and giggles.
PigFish Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 With all the odd places I could post my strange notions and opinions out here in cyberspace... this is why opine here! This thread made my day! While I certainly want the focus of your thread to remain on you and your cigars, I remember a day when no one would share **** for data on the internet about a good Cuban cigar; like they were some kind of exclusive club or something. Yes, I remember those days of shortages and year waits for a box of cigars too, but that never rationalized the tightlipped, tight ass behavior to me. You couldn't buy a straight story on a cigar via the internet. I vowed never to be one of those guys that would not give a new guy a straight answer. If I have shown one person a means by which to open the doors to a new smoking experience, a quality, less expensive, or out of the ordinary smoking experience it has been my pleasure to do so. I am proud to have been named in this thread. That you! -the Pig
investandprosper Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Laficion and Piggy, you have indeed done us all a great service in reviving the QdO. I'm in the final third of a Corona (still young from '09) as I type this, and it is truly a great cigar. It has great flavors, like the Bolis I love, but just that much different. Like a brother from another mother. I have my eyes peeled for an HQ box in the LFTH.
CBL Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 Had my first QdO Corona this afternoon with a cup of coffee while I was doing some research for school. I have to say, this was the most Cuban tasting cigar I've had in a LONG time, if that makes any sense. I was concentrating on my research more so I won't do a full review but I can say the cigar got me to pay less attention to my schoolwork than I hoped it would. Also the flavors were nicer through the nose than they were when exhaled through the mouth. I noticed some really nice gingerbread/shortbread notes and a couple of parts that reminded me of a nice red wine (acidity wise) I'm saddened by the fact that I only took 5 out of the box and had the box brought back to The Netherlands, but I think these can use a few more years to lose some of the rough edges although that might be because they're pretty fresh out the box and just need to rest a couple more weeks to acclimate to my humidor. The first part was mind blowing! A real hit of all that Cuban goodness that we are entitled to when buying Havanas. Burn and draw were perfect by the way, something that should be a given, but sadly it's worth mentioning. I'm glad I jumped on these and look forward to seeing them evolve in my humidor, next time I'll do a proper review.
Smallclub Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Also the flavors were nicer through the nose than they were when exhaled through the mouth. This is valid for every cigar; if you don't use the sense of smell, your tongue can only detect the basic tastes: bitterness, sweetness, saltiness and sourness…
CBL Posted September 18, 2011 Author Posted September 18, 2011 I don't think it's valid for every cigar. Sure you need to compare the cigar through the nose to get different notes than you get through the mouth, but I rarely exhale through the nose and think: "I should be doing this the whole time" A lot of cigars are peppery through the nose and even though they will give me different taste/smell sensations I usually don't prefer it over oral exhalation, so I was surprised that this cigar was one of the first where it was more enjoyable through the nose. But if you find all cigars better through the nose that's a valid preference.
