Beneath the Band: Punch Double Corona

This series to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts. This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world.  

To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well! 

Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor)   4-6 (Average to good)   7-10  (very good to excellent)  Use the Poll. 

The Punch Double Corona is a Cuban cigar legend.  Punch DNA simply oozes through its veins. I was fortunate enough to enjoy a 2018 a few days ago and it had me thinking that I have had many a 93/95 cigar experience with the Punch DC. This is a cigar that has rarely let me down.

Punch is solidly in my top five marcas but this is my least favorite DC. Not sure if it just doesn’t hit me right or I have had bad luck with my boxes. It’s just ok for me box or cab. I love the defunct Churchills too. One of my favorite cigars. Maybe I’ll fire up another DC soon and see how it smokes. It’s been a few years since my last.

My favorite of the Double Coronas! Even the ones I've had that weren't on were really good. I am always on the hunt for some and they have been thin on the ground for a long time. I wish Habanos would expand the marque. I wish I could afford these. Now I am sad lol.

I love all DCs, the Punch was the first one I smoked and it blew me away...

To be honest I don't even know which prominente is my favourite, all I know is I'd grab a box of those if I got the chance.

I tell you what...every aged Punch Double Coronas I've ever had has always seemed to just 'hit the mark', you know what I mean?

My favorite DC. A veritable "Snickers Bar" of a cigar. I've been working through a 50 cab from 2005 and a 2013 dress box over the years.

DCs were among my favorite vitolas when I got the Cuban but but I lost interest after a while. I guess I became smitten with other sizes often preferring two smaller cigars to one long smoke. I got ten Punch DCs in a trade and didn't think much about them for a while. Once I smoked one I was hooked. I don't have much to compare them with to since I haven't been a fan of the vitola for so long but wow, great cigars.

My first Punch DC was a gift from an FOH brother. He was very specific about me not smoking it for a couple more years when he expected it to shine at the 7 year mark. He was right, it was terrific. I’ve had a few others since then that have all been great. I’ve got a box that I haven’t  touched awaiting 7 years before the first taste. Looking forward to it next year 😁

This is my favorite cigar, let alone DC. I have smoked so many over the years with very few duds...like many have said, it is a cigar that ages beautifully.  Happy to say that I have enough to last me the rest of my life so the sticker shock of today's prices is irrelevant to me. Some of the very best cigars I have ever smoked have been aged Punch DCs...

The last box I had was from late 90's EMS and a little moldy. One of the top 5 boxes of cigars I ever owned. Every cigar was a home run.

Smoked a 2011 from cab last night. It was a perfectly fine cigar. Enjoyed it very much savoring for north of 90 minutes. Still my least favorite of the current DCs. Lusi in particular is on a whole other level. Cuban DCs are special.  Can’t go wrong with any of them. Please bring back my all time favorite SLR!

When it comes to DCs, I smoke more Lusis than any other because I have more of them. But every time I light up a Punch DC I always find myself just smiling for the next hour or so and there’s nothing wrong with that.

My favorite DC. I always bought boxes when I could. If I had to choose Punch DC vs. Lusi it would be hard but I would go Punch. I am not a fan of HdM DC, I have smoked probably a dozen over the years and always found them boring. Funny as I consider HdM as a marca to be one I generally am very favorable on.

I'm a fan of the Punch DC. I've only ever had singles, but they've been quite good. I think the oldest one I've had is maybe 4 years old but each and every one has hit the mark. It contents with Lusi for me as top DC.

The Hoyos from the early 2000's were lacking, but more recent boxes have been top notch for me. I avoided the Hoyo DC for some time until a friend got a great box and then I rushed to get the similar.

Interesting point, I would imagine the last HdM DC I smoked would have been pre 2014 or so. I’m always willing to give a cigar another shot, especially a DC! We need more of them.
