I thought that subject might garner a little interest, lol

Here's the deal...I was able to acquire this box of Punch Punch a few months ago. They are oily. They smell great every time I open the box. But the look is...divisive? I've seen some guys rave about mottled wrappers, others (like me) tend to prefer more uniform/smooth and lighter colored wrappers. So where do you fall on this particular box?

I have to re-emphasize, the smell is fantastic.

Assuming it is not an overly thick wrapper + construction good...glorious. I love a mottled wrapper with what looks to be a rosado tinge. Photos can be deceptive, of course. Reminds me of the wrappers on many of the Punch Punch 50 cabs when they were available. 

If it was my box, straight down for a 60-90 day nap/acclimatisation and try one. Work out your strategy from there.

To me flavor is king…if it’s to my taste, then I couldn’t care less about the look. If it’s not, then the ugly wrapper is probably one of the reasons why 😂 

I will say though that to me, the look of wrapper really matters when it’s a stick I’ve never tried before. Good looking wrapper can be a deciding factor on making a purchase.

Gotta go with the Prez on this. Mottled if the wrapper is thin and good construction can be glorious, and I'd take them ahead of the others given a choice from sight alone. I've had boxes that look horrendous and blew me away. The opposite as well. Uniformity is no measure.

So, I've said nothing. . .other than looks can be deceiving.

They look absolutely gorgeous to me. What is the box code? If they have 18 months or so on them, I would follow Rob's advice. Down for 60 days then...me personally, I would tuck in. Whilst those oils are alive and kicking, that box wouldn't last two months with me. Stunning cigars.

Punch Punch is easily the best smelling box in my collection, like a rich fruit cake. The only box that gives me more than just a lovely cigar smell. 

As long as they burn, I don't think wrapper holds as much weight in the flavour department, happy to be proven wrong but it's a wafer thin dress at the end of the day. Ugly or pretty, you can't judge a cigar until you smoke it in my experience.

I actually like ugly, or mottled, wrappers. To me, they add character. Weird but I'm just being honest lol. If they're oily and smell great then I wouldn't worry.

When I see wrappers like that on any cigar, it tells me this one’s gonna be a step up in flavor and the step up and strength. 🤩

These cigars are obviously cursed. If you do not immediately send them to all recipients on FOH with the screen name of JDoughty, you will have seven years of bad luck. Your spouse will leave you, you will be permanently haunted by the ghost of Winston Churchill, and all the cigars in your humidor will turn into grape flavored Swisher Sweets. Forward this suggestion to at least ten people who must do the same to break the curse, and you will enjoy fame and fortune. And I will enjoy your cigars. 😁

To my taste oily wrappers that look a little stretched are A+ and are a tell for rich cigars.

They look great for Punch Punch. I have several PSP graded boxes that look like this that have been delicious.

With Montecristo, the molted wrappers are their best examples, and I don't see why that would be exclusive only to them.

Those Punch look fine to me. I like the wrapper color. I'll take them off your hands if you're in doubt.

Rating the Box:  They look good from this photo but if they were in front of me I would:

1) Let my nose do the talking 

2) I like that the cigars are placed darkest shades to lighter (Left to Right)

3) Wrappers look oily

4) View up close for bumps (toothiness).

Thanks!  Yes, wrappers appear paper thin at the foot and just the right amount of slight give on the squeeze test...indicating good construction.  And yes, mottled wrapper with a substantial tinge of rosado...spot on.

Factory code SAE and they're DIC 24, so just over a year at this point. 

Appreciate everyone's input here. Think I'll give them another 3 months or so before digging in!

I see what you mean for sure, lol. Box looks rough but that's how it goes sometimes. I have a box of RASS just like this and they are fantastic. I also have a box of Aristocrats that are worse but they smoke way above their price point. You just cant base your thoughts on look alone. Smoke one!
