Popular Post LordAnubis Posted September 13, 2025 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2025 Having a smoke at the local waterhole. Shithole really, but it’s covered and warm and general give no shits attitude by staff. Cigar of the evening is Monte 4 - 8 years old. The last one I smoked last year was fantastic. This started great. Then out come the yobbos. Overhear some story about a guy mixing his recreational powders. The blokes lady goin' round town so to speak. Try not to listen to whatever it is they talking about. Cigar tastes rough as guts. Soon as they choof their darts and go back inside the cigar turns good again. Do audio cues impact cigar taste I wonder? 😂 No better reminder to get La Casa Del Mus build speeding up quick smart! 😂 5 9

I've never been a social smoker, and I don't see the attraction. Not that I hate people (well not all people ), but when I'm smoking cigars I'm giving them my full attention, and am fully in the relaxation zone. The likelihood of my cigar being diminished by going to a lounge to listen to someone discus tax evasion tips, is 100%...so I don't. 7
Hoosh Posted September 13, 2025 Posted September 13, 2025 TL;DR - you may be on to something…or not. 🙂 Perhaps slightly tongue in cheek, but I want to weigh in on this. I am particular about my cigar experience; for me, the actual cigar is but a portion of what my cigar time is all about. For example, I don’t smoke in the car driving home from work, I don’t go to an unknown lounge just to “burn one, etc.” While I do smoke a majority of NC that are medium+ to full in strength to really be aware, I do feel environment can make one smoke their cigar differently (i.e., too fast, too slow, ash too quickly, etc). These differences can make for a less than ideal smoke. 1
Popular Post MrBirdman Posted September 13, 2025 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2025 At first I was confused by your thread title, which I took to ask whether an idiot tastes a cigar differently. And you ain’t one of the idiots here (not that there are that many). Your question deals with what I would call “ambient idiocy.” Considering that high levels of ambient idiocy and/or imbecility can ruin just about anything, up to and including an entire country, they could easily ruin a cigar. The cigar itself is but one ingredient in the experience - it’s the most important, for sure, but the state of the palate, state of the mind, and state of the surrounds “season” that experience for better or worse. Experiences like these are what drove me away from lounges unless I am going with friends - I’d rather smoke at home when conditions are good and just smoke less overall, rather than risk lighting up a really nice cigar one minute and the next minute be trying to convince myself it sucks because I want out of the lounge. An aged Monte 4 used to be cheap enough to put down without much guilt, maybe even at Canadian prices, but those days are over. Part of why some of the joy of CC, and thus cigars in general, has diminished in me forever. 7

Popular Post Chibearsv Posted September 13, 2025 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2025 Well, my sister just called me while I was enjoying a Punch Punch and ruined my cigar. So there’s that. 🤔 1 7

Hoosh Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 What about the other side…you go to a lounge, bringing what is supposed to be a “great” cigar and despite having an awesome time (good friends, good drink, awesome atmosphere), the highly vaunted cigar is a dud. Then what? How much does environment actually help a cigar? That mediocre stick you’ve smoked 15 times because it’s cheap, can it suddenly turn into a pretty decent cigar because of who you’re with and where you are? I went out tonight to a place I go every Wednesday and brought a “supposed-to-be” banger. It was…meh. And honestly, given the hype around it, I was completely surprised. It certainly did not warrant the hype it’s gathered. The environment I was in was awesome. I was sorely disappointed with the cigar. Thankfully, I have more than one, and I am going to smoke another as I typically do to enjoy my cigars - by myself, outside, with a little music, and perhaps the dogs. We’ll see… 1
Fuzz AI Posted September 25, 2025 Posted September 25, 2025 A cigar is the dot on the i or the cross on the t. A dud cigar is still a dud cigar, no matter the circumstances. 2

This is kinda my thinking, but I have, in the past, had one cigar that was mediocre, and then smoked a couple more of the same that were much better. Plus, my experience with the cigar last night is not at all what I read in reviews about it. It wasn’t a “bad” cigar, it just didn’t sing to me like it apparently has to others. Bland, like (if you’ve ever smoked cigarettes), going from Players Navy Cut to Marlboro Lights…
