Sir Diggamus Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 I had a lot of fun with the reverse blind review last time I had to participate again. This is a Petit Corona from 2020. It is Colorado Claro in color. The aroma at cold is a little barnyard and a hint of sweetness, not much else. It is tightly packed and doesn't allow much give when squished The first few puffs are difficult and I end up clipping it a second time to try and get a better draw. No dice. The flavor so far is a little cream and a little fruit, cedar in the background. Getting smoke, just not a lot. The ash is bright white in places and pure black in others. A tad of gingerbread comes in. The flavor profile is very nice and complex for a 3-year-old cigar. Somewhere around the 1inch mark I start getting some more smoke. THANK YOU! It stinks when you have a cigar with great flavors and you just can't get smoke. The retro is all cream right now with just a hint of fruit. The ash becomes the more typical salt and pepper and holds on past the 2inch mark. The 2/3 starts with the cream upfront and fruit around the edges with hints of spice. Loving this cigar right now. I must have made it past whatever the issue was with smoke production because now I am able to get a good amount of smoke with just a little effort, the draw is still very firm though. As I get to the end of 2/3 the spice and fruit notes move neck and neck with the cream in a manner that reminds me of some kind of Christmas dessert or cookie. The last third continues with the same profile with the spice notes intensifying. I am retroing almost every puff because the flavor is awesome. Gingerbread noted again. The aroma wasn't something I noticed in the first two thirds, but with the wind changing I notice the aroma is a nice mellow spice, a lighter version of what I am tasting and a little sweeter. The cigar finishes with that same spice profile with a little more gingerbread and the cream just noted floating on the retrohale This cigar was fantastic and very unexpected. The problems with the draw and smoke production in the beginning was a little frustrating but I am glad it cleared up before the 2/3. 92 score 1
GaryK 54 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Nice review @Sir Diggamus. I can certainly relate to the frustration of a too-tight draw on a cigar that is too good to toss, and the subsequent elation when it suddenly opens up! For my guess, I'm going with @rcarlson... RASCC Minutos. I don't get some of the flavours the OP describe; typically, I get notes of cedar, pepper spice (maybe the ginger spice he tastes is more pepper-like to me), and fruit sweetness. But all in all, the appearance of the wrapper and the flavour profile sound like a good RASSCC. 1
Sir Diggamus Posted July 10, 2023 Author Posted July 10, 2023 It’s a traditional PC or Marevas. 42x 5 1/8 in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Connoisseur Kim Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Nice review @Sir Diggamus! I only had Siglo II and Monte 4 for traditional CC Mareva Petit Corona experience so far, but dat cigar seems to be either PLPC or Monte 4 based on your description.
Sir Diggamus Posted July 11, 2023 Author Posted July 11, 2023 A lot of good guesses! I don’t know if you want to give it to @david9985 because it is a RyJ PC, but a Romeo no 2, not technically a RyJ Petit Corona. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
david9985 Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Congratulations on the win @Sir Diggamus and yes I'll take the victory 😜 in light of having to choose from the catalogue of RyJ Marevas! 1
