Popular Post El Presidente
FOH International Blind Tasting Competition: Cigar Number 1. Preparation Review review on this thread Cigar Number 1 and send your pick to Lisa. As a special feature this year, tomorrow will be posted a video of Ken and I smoking that cigar from the same blind tasting set. Ken has no idea. He has no idea about the cigar either. No hints are given. Simply tasting notes that you can smoke along with, review post or prior, ignore completely. You are encouraged to post your review on Cigar number 1 on this thread. However, keep your guess to yourself. 1. The competition commences November 15 by which time you will need to have smoked cigar number 1 and emailed your pick to Lisa ([email protected]).You will e-mail Lisa your nomination for that cigar by Sunday the 14th. Now you can smoke all the cigars and email Lisa the results but we will be revealing cigars 1-5 over successive weeks. You get your picks in by the end of Sunday your time and we will post the results by the following Tuesday (time differences etal). Important This year three of the 5 cigars are aged (5 years +). For a bonus half point, you at the time of your email to lisa need to nominate if the cigar is one of the three aged cigars. You only have three chances to nominate a cigar as aged. If you do not nominate then it will be recorded as non aged by default. Once emails are sent there will be no alteration to your selections. Late entries will not be accepted. Just to be clear, you'll know what the cigar is, so your half of the review won't be blind, right?

Popular Post Habana Mike
I'll watch after smoking. Just got the sticks in the humidor yesterday so 2 weeks rest will have to do.... By the way, Kelly saw me with the package and said "I thought you weren't buying any more cigars". Told her it was for the contest. "Well, OK. It is only 5". Never mind the box of Monte #2 from BR she also spotted. Shit-listed..... 1

My mistake was having the boxes in the front seat of my car and she happened to be out when I got home. 🤦♂️

Popular Post MigsG
Happy weekend to all. Is today the day I smoke Cigar No. 1? She smells great, that much I can say. Nice short video! Ken’s tasting notes were not entirely helpful 😆 Or maybe he was spot on? Hmmm 🤔 4
Popular Post LordAnubis
Im smoking 1 and 2 today. ive narrowed it down to 2 of 7... or 1 of 7 .. maybe robs doing a sneaky!! Cigar 1 - Box pressed Marevas. draw a litte tight, but smokable. Nothing of significance on the cold draw. First light was straight up sweetness.. like sugar sweetness. it compares light and day to cigar 2. 1/3 - full flavour, dominated by flashes of sweetness and toast. 2/3 - sweetness hangs around, almost a peaches and cream allens lolly flavour to it now. Im considering what it is, but what i think it is i wouldnt think rob would put in a blind tasting pack. 3/3 - becoming mild flavoured now. more savoury, toast and biscuit. very smooth. Looking forward to getting it all wrong. I cant distinctly tell either is aged.they both seem well balanced, no harshness. I've found fresh stock has been smoking great and both of these could be fresh cigars in my book. 4
Bijan
I've only smoked the first one so far. But there's only one cigar it could be to me. Very curious to smoke the second one. These two are the ones I'm most confident about as I smoke a lot of PCs.
Bijan
Smoked cigar 2. It confirmed my choice for cigar 1 but it wasn't clear what 2 is. The first half smoked like one of the options and the second half smoked like another option. All told I'd lean towards what the first half was like but I'm 60/40 in certainty and will wait to see what others have to say. 3
Chas.Alpha
The odds of me picking one of these right are exactly the same as the Vikings playing the Lions in the NFC championship this year. 😳

Monte 4 4. PLPC 5. RGPC and since the cigars are both boxed pressed, it's down to BPC, Monte 4 and RGPC. So far I'm pretty much 100% certain cigar 1 is a certain one of those 3. And I'm pretty sure cigar 2 is one of the other two that are left, though I'm maybe 95% sure of that. Edit: (It could have conceivably been a RyJ Cedros de luxe, don't know how box pressed those get, or a Party or RyJ MF, but I don't think so, especially after having smoked the two).

Isn't the RyJ PC an option too? Don't think I've had one so no idea if it'somewhat boxed pressed, but think I saw it is still considered reg production in the PC size.

And throwing in an “aged beyond 5 years” means it could be an H Upmann PC, ERDM PC, JLPC, Petit Coronas del Punch, probably a couple more I am missing. I think he was more or less narrowing it down based on his taste. I have my idea on no 1, I will try and get to no 2 this weekend. Edit: From the perspective of flavour when smoked, I would have chosen those 3 cigars anyways, regardless of box press or not.
Popular Post Edicion
As soon as I got my pack I had a close look at each cigar, and quickly made up my mind even before smoking them, of what they could be. This is of course a treacherous path to go down as this impact choices based on opinion rather than actual tasting. I learned that the hard way since the second (which I smoked as well) did not match anything I thought it would. Re the first cigar, I smoked this a while back and found it be a very flavorful cigar with floral and spicy elements. In the current production lineup, there's a lot of choices but many flavor profiles of the big marcas don't match with what I'm getting in this cigar. I've narrowed it down to just a few cigars based on this. In terms of aged or not, I did get some harshness in my stick, maybe it's just this sample, but to me that's not a tell of being aged. Probably the contrary. I've come to enjoy PC much more since this test, as I think the flavor is much more concentrated and perhaps they use less fillers when making them compared to a Robusto sized (honestly, just my thoughts that I cannot back up with any facts). It is definitely not making it easier to tell what it is though, despite being a flavorful stick. On a personal note, I really liked it and would give it a 90-91 for sure.
Bijan
@Edicion my experience was similar. I will say that some strong marcas have been nerfed or weakened lately so being stronger could be a sign of age. Again keeping my guess to myself. The first few time I smoked this cigar or what I believe to be this cigar it was extremely strong. Ever since then I have practically never had that experience again with this cigar, though the flavours have been close at times. This example from the sampler reminded me of what it could be like at fuller strength.
ChanceSchmerr
Y'know, the box press is kinda meaningless. Nothing stopping Rob from just box pressing all the cigars in a batch just to mess with your head. Trust your palate. That's the name of the game, mates.
