I'm a guillotine man, but I see that lots of people use V-cutters and punches.

Should I try either or both, and what do people see as the advantages?

(I'm sure there are tons of threads on this already, so apologies for that and feel free to direct me to anything relevant that already exists : )

I’m with you. Straight cut via guillotine. Experimented w the punch and v-cut in early days but went back to guillotine and that’s all I do now. Personal preference. Some do diff cuts for diff cigars. They all have their advantages I guess.

Punch cut for single cap cigars (Padron etc)

V cut for figurados such as torpedoes or Piramides (although check you get enough flow at cold draw)

Straight cut for everything else (ie 95% of the rest)

All but the really skinny ones get a v cut. Draw has never really been an issue for not cutting enough. Every now and again I use the punch on my lighter. The victorinox is intriguing. Might have to see  what ebay has for me.

I punch everything… keeps the wrapper intact. Piramides get a straight cut at a jaunty angle for flair.

I have fell in love with my Bond Roberts branded Fox cigar cutter.   It is like a reverse cigar scissors.

How did I miss these?? Are they still available? They look really comfortable to use

Those look great. Those are on my wishlist.

An odd one I used a long time ago was this Al Mar Havana Clipper. Ended up being a better pocket knife than cigar cutter though.

(Pic not mine).

I like a V-cut on any parejo shape 50 and over and a straight cut on all else. Not been a punch fan to date

I adore both my cutters & use them interchangeably as feel/size/shape warrants.

Thanks for all the input - I'm getting some themes, but mileage clearly varies.

I used to hate guillotine cutters, but in retrospect that was probably because I was using the cheap plastic ones. I finally bought a decent one (xikar xi series) and have been pretty happy with it. Works for every vitola and produces clean cuts almost every time.

Vast majority I use a punch (11mm Xikar - which unfortunately gave up the ghost recently).

Way too many issues with guillotines from the aforementioned supplier....

V-cut for torpedo.

I'm exclusively using Colibri V-Cut for every CCs and I really like intensed flavor of this cigar cutter. Will try Colibri Quasar Cigar Punch and Cuban Crafters Dos Chabetas Perfect Cutter in the future as well.

My Zino guillotine has beautiful action and seems really sturdy. I can see the appeal of cigar scissors - they are aesthetically pleasing and give you so much control - but less portable.

So the V-cutter really makes the smoke more intense?
