Sean62 Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 I will be travelling to Canada soon with cigars and wondering whether my cigar lighter will be permitted as carry on luggage?
Bijan Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Technically butane lighters aren't allowed in cabin or checked baggage. I've been ok with checked baggage though. Others can chime in on cabin baggage. 1
jhalischuk Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Sometimes I've gotten through with them, sometimes not. Might be best to get a cheap torch and hope it doesn't get confiscated. Also most corner stores, at least in Ontario, have single flame torches you can get for $5-10. 1
Cigar Surgeon Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Buy one of these. Carry the refillable part on the plane as it's allowed. Check the cartridge part in your luggage. https://www.amazon.com/SOTO-Soto-Pocket-Torch-2019/dp/B005G3PQJQ/ 2

As @Bijan said, TSA rules say no butane lighters anywhere (checked, carry on, etc). I've gotten through with a cheapie the last couple times I flew over the summer. 1

Glass Half Full Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 In the U.S., at least, I know that it's legal to fly with matches in your carry on. I've flown with them upwards of a dozen times. I know that's not ideal, but it's been my work-around as I don't want to lose my good lighter to TSA or to their search of checked baggage. Sulfur-free cigar matches are great as long as there's not too much wind. ...The 3-match light is a classic. :)
Monocle Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 FoH branded travel lighter has been wonderful for me. I fly about 30-35 times/year and haven’t had an issue with it—I’m on a flight now with it in my backpack. They’re usually available on the FoH webstore under accessories, though I don’t know if they can be purchased now with the carts freeze. 1
riderpride Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 In my experience each agent is different in Canada. To be safe, I travel with matches and Spanish cedar 'sticks' from a box divider or a tubo. 1

Something about it always brings me back to Cuba, and yet I don't do it often enough, once in a blue moon. Great advice. (And I'll be putting some in my bag from now on
Fuzz Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Just buy a gas station cheapie when you arrive. Unless you absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, must smoke the second you get off the plane... which is another problem all together. I mean, it's Canada. It's not like you are traveling to the deepest, darkest depths of the wilderness, where they still have yet to discover fire... or tik tok. 1 1
BrightonCorgi Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 I keep a Bic in my toiletry bag and never been taken. I do fly a lot (pre Covid). Worst that can happen is I have to buy another...
mprach024 Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Golf bags. You can smuggle just about anything in your golf bag. 1
RDB Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 I almost always take a cheap torch in my hand luggage. It only gets found one time in 20. This is Europe, Mid-East & Africa airports - but not Israel!

I’ve been stopped before because fertilizer residue triggered the TSA test for explosives. Then they search everything.
jonnyfromiranny Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 I check them when I can, but have gotten through several time with torches purchased from Amazon. I always try and place them in the middle of my luggage buried inside one of my clothing pockets.

But seriously what kind of heathen golfer are you!? Wipe your clubs after every shot, take care of them they take care of you. Grooves are meant to be a void not a dirt holder. Still......fertilizer TSA check....😂😂. 1
Timothy556 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 I have put one in my checked luggage. I always recommend never traveling with something you would be upset about being lost, stolen, or broken. Also, you should be able to pick up a decent lighter where ever you go. Safe travels. 2

Classic government efficiency there. They have a separate page for that: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/torch-lighters Completely different animal apparently 😂 1 1
