This may be totally obvious to the pros on this forum … but what is the correct way to store/age cuban cigars that came in metal tubes?

My sister brought me a bunch of various cohiba tubos she picked up in England last visit and I just threw them in the humidor still in the tube. Is that acceptable or was I supposed to remove them from the metal tube while storing in humidor?

I figured the tubes are not airtight anyway so no harm either way?

They aren't airtight. If they were then HSA would not package them in such a way since cigars need humidification. What I do sometimes is loosen the cap to the point where its barely on there and I do this just to allow a bit more humidification.

I pull out.  I have enough room to store the tubes and the cigars separately in the same corner of my humidor.  If I need the space I can put them back in the tube.  In my opinion a cigar will acclimate to your humidor quicker outside the tube.

I pulled them out of the tubes several times, but their taste deteriorated in the humidor and they required a long period of acclimatization. Now I take it out of the tube only immediately before smoking.

Same here.

I have found that the tubos tend to have a slightly nuttier taste, perhaps from being wrapped in the cedar veneer or whatever they are actually using. To me they are always a slightly more pleasant variant of the vitola.
I leave them in the tubos, in the cardboard box or dress box as they were made in Cuba and as God intended them to be.
I have the space in my various Coolidors and Iris weathertight plastic containers so I don’t bother messing with opening them up. They will acclimate over time.

As a sample of one though, I had my first ever bitter cigar. I was in Chicago for work, we had a bender of a work dinner. I pulled out a Monte Petit Tubos for the stumble to my hotel. Cigar was god awful. It was raining. I was well past the state of making rational decisions. I currently blame the cigar not the tubos. All other tubos I have had have been delightful.

I like cedar taste tubed cigars.  I would leave them in the tube as-is.  You may want to unscrew the cap and rest the end of the tube on the cap, but that is more for presentation than anything.

When I get them I’ll take each one out to inspect it and then put them back in the tube and leave them that way.

Maybe I’ll try leaving some in the tubes, but so far I’ve removed most that I have here. They have smoked beautifully, including a Vigia tubo that was maybe the best cigar I’ve had this year.

I leave them in the tubes and just place them into the humidor. Plenty of goodness wrapped around them in that tube.
