A few years back, these seemed to be the “it” cigar.  A lot of folks talked (and raved) about them.  In fact, my ONLY good box from 2016 was a PSP box of them.  I haven’t purchased any since 2017.
2 questions:

No one talks about them anymore.  Why?

Are they still good?  Better?  Worse?

The 2019 and 2020 I have had were very nice, but to be fair, Montecristo is my favorite marca, so I may be a little biased

Part of my core rotation and the recent ones I’ve had from 19 & 20 have been good (although mostly smoking 15 & 16 boxes at the moment). I think the consistency is part of why they don’t get talked about a ton. Always good, rarely great, never bad enough for a rant.

Top 20 selling cigar for us. Just outside top 10 from memory.

2019-21 excellent in the main.

Always been a solid PE fan but 18-20 have just been funky for me. Fireproof wrappers, wonky flavor. All sorts of box codes. Had to drop them out of the rotation for the time being until I see how 21s perform.

Personally never had a good one from any year ….just n my taste I guess …always too rough tasting

They can be rough, yes. It's what I've been finding recently. When on, it might be my favorite Monte but good ones are tough to find. The best ones are equal parts milk chocolate and that strong Monte tanginess. That balance is hard to achieve. The last good tasting ones I had were 18s that unfortunately had fireproof wrappers.

I had 2 from a MSU ENE 18 box of 10 with one buying a dud, but the other one which I smoked was fabulous and right up my alley if you like it on the potent side of medium. Had 0 strength.

This thread had made me seriously consider having an Edmundo for my morning smoke.

Don't have any PE's as I prefer the longer smoke time of the Edmundo

My box of 2018 Edmundos is long gone since they were absolute gold in 2020 and I couldn't keep my hands off.  I've got a 2020 box resting hoping for that same gold in 2022.  Might be a bit fat for me for a morning smoke though.  I really enjoy skinnier cigars like Monte 3 for my Saturday morning handicapping on the patio and would love Monte 1 if I could find one with a proper draw.  PE like every other 4 inch-ish cigar doesn't really do it for me even if they're tasty.

On the back half of a great 2018 box. I have a GEM SEP 20 box in the wings; hopefully it turns out to be a good one.

I have an MTS ABR 20 box that has been resting since mid-May. I have had one or two good smokes, but they seem tight still. I'm going to let them sit longer.
