Popular Post Ryan Posted July 1, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2021 So the wife signed us all up for a 2 hour pottery class on a short break recently. I had never done it before. We were given 10 minutes instruction from the potter, on molding clay and the wheel, we had time to do one piece with each method. 5 minutes in, my wife says "You're not making a cigar ashtray are you?" "Well, I'm also going to make a bowl for the bands.." They just arrived today after glazing and firing. They both came out a little smaller than I had thought and the ashtray could have been deeper, with a better rest. I was trying to get something looking like a tobacco leaf, but it's a bit long and I should have had the veins more pronounced. But I'm happy enough with my efforts at a first attempt. It was quite a fun couple of hours too. 33 2
Popular Post dominattorney Posted July 1, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2021 Not bad for your first try dude. Not bad at all. The leaf looks amazing. My stepdaughter does ceramic art and I understand that shrinkage and warpage to some degree is just part if the game. I wouldn't sneeze at that ashtray for a second. Here's her first try for an ashtray for me. 7

RyanTheLucky Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 This is a great idea. I would love a tobacco leaf ashtray. 11 out of 7. Also you guys notice how people complain about those activity classes and then always have fun. It seems like claiming not to like them is half the fun for some people. Chibearsv Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Great job! I’m always impressed with how crafty people can be. It’s a skill I don’t possess. I need plans and diagram or I’ve got no shot. 1
WarriorPrincess Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 That is pretty cool Andy well done for your first attempt 1
Fuzz Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Admit it, you wanted to know if you could pull a Swayze.... but you got shrinkage. 4
Nino Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Good job, looks lovely, good idea about the band bowl too ... like the "fragmented" surface look and the green colour.
Popular Post Cigar Surgeon Posted July 2, 2021 Popular Post Posted July 2, 2021 You did an amazing job. I saw the Ghost video clip but honestly my first thought was from Community: 1 8
