El Presidente Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Is anyone else just a tad uncomfortable with the name of these? Is it simply edgy....or is it simply insensitive? Limited Release Irish Car Bomb Firecrackers Cigar Journal | Covering all angles of t.. by Press Release - 8h ago - Expanding on their limited release offerings that were saved for Independence Day, United Cigars has started to expand on the popularity of the United Firecracker line. To celebrate this year’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities why not pour a green beer and light up the Irish Car Bomb Firecracker that features a candela and maduro barber pole, finished with the unmistakable wick that Firecracker is known for. “Cigars are meant to be celebrated with friends and smiles,” said Oliver Nivaud Director of Operations for United Cigars. “The rich and creamy draw on this limited release, barber pole Firecracker is perfect. So let’s raise a pint this St. Paddy’s Day and light up an Irish Car Bomb Firecracker.” Production on the Irish Car Bomb was limited to under 15,000 cigars featuring a Dominican Candela and Mexican San Andres wrapper, finished off with a candela wick. The binder is Nicaraguan Criollo with Dominican Ligero, Nicaraguan and Pennsylvanian Broadleaf fillers. Production was started late last year at the Magia Cubana Factory in Gurabo, Republica Dominicana to prepare for a St. Patrick’s Day Firecracker parade of smoke. Irish Car Bombs will be sold as 5 packs with an MSRP of USD 30.00 and ship to retailers at the end of February. Firecrackers are known for their explosive flavors in a small offering and the Irish Car Bomb Firecracker will not disappoint as a 3 x 50 vitola. 1
Popular Post mprach024 Posted February 22, 2021 Popular Post Posted February 22, 2021 Well, it is the name of a drink (whiskey and Irish cream), and refers to that flavor. Like saying French Vanilla, it’s become a “flavor”. So if the cigars are flavored to mimic that taste I can see where they were going as far as intentions, but the execution is very poor. The picture of a bomb is unnecessary, and unfortunately the Irish don’t have the same support from the media in regards to shaming, or jokes that other groups do. But yeah, it’s pretty insensitive in regards to the victims of the religious conflict that took part in Northern Ireland and throughout the UK for quite a long time. Seems sad to cash in on it. It looks and sounds like an awful cigar as another point. 6 1

Chibearsv Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 All that packaging to call something a "Car Bomb". They should've just called it an Irish Firecracker. The story says they have a series of Firecracker cigars, they didn't need to go beyond that. I think they overworked their idea until it became cringeworthy. 1
Chas.Alpha Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I was trying to find the words. Cringe worthy is better than what I was coming up with... ? 1

We call that a depth charge here in the states. Irish car bomb is a drink you can get in pretty much any bar, bartender will know what to make.
99call Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Wow, the merchandising/monetising of Irish "culture" really does know no bounds. I do find it endlessly fascinating that a land which has such tension and divides within its own land, is seemingly so happy to pimp itself with debased tat overseas. Whenever St Patricks day rolls around I'm always torn, I enjoy the music, the drink and I have a great deal of affection for my celtic cousins being Welsh......but Jesus, get rid of all the marketing crap. Think of the poor whale somewhere in the Atlantic choking on a polyester green leprechaun hat...........what a shitty way to go. It's one of the few cultures that seems to have become a sort of brand. I'm imagining the brainchild of this product knows little about the troubles, lives lost etc. 2
99call Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I'm a big Dubliners fan, but It would of been interesting to see what differing opinions this tongue in cheek song received back in the day. 1

I've always called it an Irish Car Bomb, too - Mar 17 tradition, actually - Half pint of Guinness, 3:1 shot of Jamo:Bailey's, bombs away. That cigar, though? "Trying too hard" all star...and failed. I can do without the imagery. (the stick is ugly enough by itself!) 4

To expand on this: the drink is made by dropping a bomb shot of Irish cream and whiskey into a glass of stout - hence he 'car bomb/explosion' that occurs as the creamy whiskey infuses with the rest of the drink. You're supposed to drop the shot glass into the stout and chug the drink. Must've had this around 10+ years ago and it doesn't end well. Although I am a fan of Irish cream, whiskeys, and stouts separately - jus not mixed together! 2
canadianbeaver Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 So laddie, aye yer saying those beeyoot pow pows come at six box eh pop? Big whoop. A pint o Guinness for me and an a feeyoo mayts wood be more satis fayn Ach eye Tha Bayv 1 1
Bijan Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Wikipedia says the drink's name is now considered offensive in many places. The company (United Cigar) had Firecracker cigars with a fuse like pigtail thing already. They just combined the two. More offensive probably but you wouldn't have to look too far if you were going to make a St-Patrick's day version of the firecracker cigar. 1

We talked about this the other day on Zoom. Raising a topic and having an open discussion without anyone feeling the need for standing on their soap box. Still cringe worthy....but I learn't something today.....and it's still early so I can take the rest of the day off 2

I'm with Prez here in that I learned something new. Never heard of an Irish Car Bomb drink; thank god I'm too old apparently; I certainly wouldn't want to ruin a perfectly good Guinness.

I wouldn't say it's the drink of the evening, you just have one to say you did and then move on... 1

Between the car bombs, cement mixers and prairie fires, if any of these were to appear, one of your friends was trying to make you puke. Good times being 18. 3
BigGuns Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 No doubt. Don’t forget the Three Wise Men. Sure sign that your friends actually hate you 1
Walter19 Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 I love the "firecracker" series. Just the right amount of NC.
