In terms of taste, what two Marques share the most DNA?

I was asked this after the long lunch on Friday.  Let me turn it into a couple of questions :D

Q1                  In your mind (and palate), the two marques that share the most flavour similarities?

Q2                   What are the cigars that most share the flavour characteristics of

                                                                                               Cohiba Robust

                                                                                               Trinidad La Trova

For sure I would say QDO 50 and Coro I get similarities.
Trinidad Esmeralda smokes to me like I imagine the La Trova should in my mind.

and marcas that taste similar ... I did the blind tasting last year and got 1 right so take it for what it’s worth, on any given day to me they can all be similar. But if I had to make one comparison it would be Monti and Upman. I get lots of twang, citrus, clean rich tobacco, coffee espresso, some floral and class from both. I don’t find a lot of chocolate in my pallet. More cream from both

I think you would get a massive blind test failure rate with the following match ups

Upmann Connnie 1    vs    PL Picadores

VR Unicos                  vs     Monte 2

RGPC                         vs     Monte 4

Personally I don't see any crossover with Trinidad and Cohiba !???   one is a fantastic cigar......the other has a yellow band

Q1: In my limited experience with my bad palate I get similarities between Cohiba and Quai d'orsay; also between monte and rafael gonzalez.

Q2: not enough experience with these two sticks to answer

Although I haven't tried these marques for a while, I remember Diplomaticos and SLR to share some similarities, mostly the woodiness/cedar maybe. These two when exhibiting some initial grassiness then at their best, cream and sweetness are sort of like a Coro IMHO.

My Q1 answer is Quai D’orsay and Trinidad.

Q2: La Trova tastes very similar to Por Laranaga Gran Robusto Paises Bajos, my Coros are rather bland, sadly - can’t help there.

For me Punch and Juan Lopez share that floral orange peel flavor. PL and Fonseca have that woody caramel coffee flavor. Upmann and SLR have stone fruit in their DNA.

I want all my Cohiba’s to taste like sugarcane and all my Trinidad’s to taste like sugarcane dipped in chocolate.

Lighter bodied Upmanns vs Hoyos

Sir Winston / La Trova. Lots of coffee, bready flavour in both for me.

Struggling to find a comparison for coro. J Lopez no 2 may be a good replacement with some age but I've never had one older than 2 years so cannot tell for sure. Possibly an aged mag46 could do it too.

I get the same with QdO and Cohiba.

Never had the La Trova, but I'd throw in a QdO 50 for a Cohiba Robusto ringer.

Dang this is a good question(s)

-Bolivar and Monte......maybe......yeah they are different, but both CAN mix coffee with chocolate.  Just one adds graham cracker and the other adds leather/earth.  Yeah its a stretch.

-For the Coro...is it cheating if I choose a Behike 52? lol...maybe if you get lucky and get a really good Upmann 2, you can get some those honey notes to shine.  Yep an even bigger stretch.

-La Trova - haven't had one yet, cant answer this, just as well I feel like I was grasping at straws for the first 2 answers.
